J.D. Stroube I havent seen either of them but I read online about two other vamp shows that used to be on. Blood ties, and Forever knight. I dont know if they're any good but you could check them out. Did you ever watch Moonlight?

message 202: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Oh yeah I was in love with Beth. I thought Joseph was the coolest vamp ever. Broke my heart when the writers strike effectivly killed that show when it was about to take off. That one chic whos specialty was cleaning up messes. Just to cool. Great series and I was just waiting for Beth to say "Mick, turn me baby before I get any older!",LOL.

message 203: by J.D. (new)

J.D. Stroube Yeah I was disappointed when the series ended. I miss all of the supernatural shows! They keep making more reality tv shows, and drama now. Do you ever watch supernatural? If you like vamps you might like that show.

message 204: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Yeah I used to it was better than nothing. We have the new HDTV. The stations in the area are very iffy on the signal. The truth is they had not mastered the technology before they made the switch. I can't get PBS at all and its my favorite. PBS had a version of Dracula staring the famous French actor Louis Jordan. It was the most faithful to the book Dracula I have ever seen. It's probably stuck away in PBS archives. They do have TrueBlood. To me it's the best. I watch the clips and when I get a better computer I will be able to watch whole episodes. As long as that show is going. Thats good enough for me. Vampires are real popular now but like Buffy. Not popular with the age group that buys cars and all the other commercial products that put those shows on the air. I am amazed Buffy lasted as long as it did. Actually Buffy lasted as long as it could. The characters where simply getting to old,LOL.

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Get on yur FREAK Sookie Stackhouse fans. Southern Vampire Mysteries easily the best vampire series outside the Y A section of the library. There is a brand new book in the series to be realeased any day now. "Dead and Gone". It may already be available but our library wont have it for a couple weeks yet. I am so freaking stoked. This series is also the basis for the TV series TrueBlood. Which is in its second season and the first season is available in DVD blue ray ba bay! Whoo hoo!

J.D. Stroube You have no more books to read? I have an entire shelf dedicated to Vampire books, have a look...you might find something to read...My vampire shelf has 76 different vampire books in it. :)

Melissa hessler | 1 comments mercy thompson series by patercia briggs it has vampires shapeshifters and werewolves but still i love them

message 211: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Wow Joy that is impressive. I have to go pick up Dead to the World, and Dead as a Doornail today. I am about half way through From Dead to Worse. Then I will be all caught up on Sookie Stackhouse, and ready for Dead and Gone. I read lots of serious literature and books of all kinds. These vampire stories are cutting into my reading of serious literature. I Gottah tell yah however I own copies of Dracula and two of Carmilla and they will always reamain the diffinitive vampire novels and in both of them Vamps don't burn in the sun,LOL.

message 212: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Oh yeah they have True Blood season one on DVD blue ray. I am going to have to buy that. They portray Pam as much older than the 19 year old in the book. I am at the part in From Dead to Worse were Amillia is going out with Pam, and Alcide has declared war on the Long Tooth pack leader Furnan. I hope Alcide kicks his ass for killing Maria Starr.

message 213: by J.D. (new)

J.D. Stroube IDK if it is just me, but I think that the YA vampire books tend to be better than the adult vampire books...Although, there have been some pretty amazing adult vampire series...
BTW for those L.J. Smith fans...Don't read Nightfall, it'll destroy your faith in L.J. Smith. Terrible book! Ugh!

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Joy are you out of your freaking mind. Did you ever read Dracula. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Count_Dr... This web page describes the theme and plot of Dracula something those chessy kiddy books cannot even begin to approach. In his youth Dracula had attended the school of Scholamance or the dark arts and black magic, and Alchemy. This enabled him to rise from the dead and made him a more than run of the mill vampire. He also had been a warrior king in life which gave him class, and sophistication, and in death he commaded a gypsy army. He claims decent from Atilla the Hun. Man that book is so smoking bad as full of sexual inuendo, majic, violence all that good stuff. I mean Dracula has three wives is that enough sex for yah. Furthermore a good part of Dracula was derived from yup you guessed it "Carmilla". No Y A section book comes within miles of those two stories. As far as popcorn vampires. I am reading From Dead to Worse, with Dead as a Doornail, and Dead to the World in the wings. Then after that Dead and Gone. I have read Carmilla and Dracula 15 or more times each. Something I could never do with Sookie Stackhouse or andy YA books. Because Dracula and Carmilla are about more than just vampires. Theme and Plot meant to illuminate another point underneath the surface of a story about a vampires. Carmilla is about the duality of human nature. There's more to it than just being a geechy vampire. Read that explanation about the form in whic Dracula is written. Both Carmilla and Dracula will be on book shelves long after all these other books are dust. The books in themselves are vampires. Any this make sense too you? LOL Cheers, Cary

J.D. Stroube Hey! Its official "Vampire Diaries" will air on the CW this fall! It going to be on Thursdays at 8pm. They are moving Smallville to Fridays. Im excited that we will have a vampire show on tv again.
Oh...Tru Blood starts up again June 14th at 9pm!
So we will have TWO vampire shows!!!!

message 216: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Cool we get the CW here. However the local broad casting stations have not got their act together. Our local channels that include the CW are not coming through. I am going to have to have a satelite dish mounted on the roof. The new HDTV signal is just not as strong as the old one. Wassup Joy? LOL

message 217: by J.D. (new)

J.D. Stroube Ugh! That stinks! I would not be able to live w/o basic cable. The channels are so much clearer! :)

message 218: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Here in Oklahoma the dumbasses can't even broadcast digital correctly. They made everyone change. We bought an HDTV. Then found out you had to have cable to get the most basic stations with it. This is all about big broadcasting making everyone switch to pay TV. I think the people behind it should be shot. Hey what about those vampires? Cool don't yah think, LOL

message 219: by J.D. (new)

J.D. Stroube We have cable in our livingroom, but have to make due with whole "bunny ears" antenea in our bedroom. We have digital, but only get a few of the channels in there. Luckily, our Dvr records most of our shows in the livingroom. :)
Read any good vampire books??? LOL

message 220: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Looks like I am going to have to get cable. Yeah I am reading Sookie "Dead to the World". I think Sookie should have just wacked Debbie Pelt. Erik has lost his memory and Sookie is using him for a boy toy. It is all to hilarious. Next "Dead Ass a Doornail" Then I can't wait to read the latest Sookie book "Dead and Gone". But I am afraid it is the end of the series. Oh well you know I reread Dracula every couple years and Carmilla once a year cause it's short, and I so dig those books. Right now I am looking for a copy of one of the very first books written about vampires and relevants as they were orignaly called. I love those old 1700's books because the guys litteraly believe in Vampires and believe what they are saying, LOL.

message 221: by J.D. (new)

J.D. Stroube I dont think I have read any of the "originals" I usually buy whatever I come across at barnes and noble, which are usually things that recently came out.

message 222: by Cary (last edited May 25, 2009 05:35AM) (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments All of the oldest Vampire stories are in a compilation called The Penguin Book of Vampire Stories, available through Amazon. I got two copies of Carmilla one as a single story & another as part of Dr. Hesselius(occult physician 1850) case files, In a Glass Darkly. Dracula was given to me by a G.F. who works at the library. All the rest of the stories I read online at Horrormasters.com So you can find even the oldest writtings published on the internet free. That's were all the funky stuff is like "Magia Posthuma". Translation "Magic After Life". This is a real 1700's writting. Google it up. This dude goes on about Vampires & Revelants like they were for real. Really creepy to me in a fun way. All the modern books I will not spend a penny on. I love Sookie Stackhouse but I get all those books at the library. I would buy a copy of Magia Posthuma because it can't be found in any library. The reason you cannot find Dracula or Carmilla at libraries or compilations of Gothic Vampire stories is because they get stolen. Why? Because they are the best. People don't steal the new series books because modern libraries are like going throgh the Air Port, LOL. Cheers,Cary

Kami D I am reading Silver Kiss right now, and its pretty good. but i wish it was a series!

message 224: by J.D. (new)

J.D. Stroube I read Silver Kiss along time ago. You'd probably like Blood and Chocolate if you like "Silver kiss", it is by the same author...

message 225: by Kami (new)

Kami D ok thanks, i will try that

message 226: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Cool Silver Kiss is not a series? That means it might be pretty good. Ever read "For the Blood is the Life" That is a good one about a gypsy vampire girl in Italy. My favorite Italian Vampire story is Mystery of the Campagna. Campagna in Italian means countryside. This guy goes to write an opera at this semi rural country house in Italy cira 1880. In putering around in the cellar he finds an entrance to another deeper chamber in his cellar. It is the tomb of Vesperthilia. A Roman female vampire. If you know your Latin Vespers means evening. So her name would translate woman of the evening. No she's not a ho. Pictured on her stone sarcophagus is Hercules pulling a woman behind him. In Latin on the front it says Vesperthilia Maximus but on the other side in ancient Greek it says. "Vesperthilia Blood Drinker Vampire Killer of Flavius Maximus. Its a pretty funky story for real. Both those stories are at Horrormaters.com vampire section. Happy Holiday to ya'll.

Cary, I found something out today that might make you happy! I remember you saying that you really like Buffy the Vampie Slayer...well they are planning to make a NEW Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie! I put a link that talks about it at the bottom of this post.

Also, another thing you might like...Did you know that after the tv series ended, they continued the story in the form of comics? My husband found them online.

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Cool Joy that freakin is rockin. The original Buffy Movie is so different than TV Buffy even though the screen play was written by the same person Josh Weddon who produced the Buffy series. I think Charlaine Harris owes allot of her idea's to TV Buffy. I just can't see anyone other than Sarrah Gellar as Buffy. But then again they might find someone even cooler. Sarah is to old to play Buffy now anyway.

message 229: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments I just wish they would make a real true to the story movie of Carmilla. Exactly like the book with really good actors. It is a story that even set in the 1870s is very much up to date for modern audiences. Just as it was way ahead of it's time when written.

Some people were speculating that they might make the new Buffy the Vampire Series about a new slayer, instead of making it about buffy.
Oh, and my husband finished "Dead and Gone" in the sookie stackhouse series, and he says it is really depressing. Just a warning, he regrets reading it. :(

message 231: by Cary (last edited May 28, 2009 06:50AM) (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Well I knew Dead & Gone would be the end of Sookie Stackhouse series. The title implies that much. I just am winding down the big witch fight with Hallow. Sookie is such a wimp. She can only kill people in self defence. It almost got her killed twice. It was a pretty outlandish fight to be sure. I think the only thing that would depress me is if Sookie got killed. Lonesome Vampire Bill being my favorite and Eric and Pam. Any or all of them dying would bum me. It would be cool if Sookie got turned tee hee. But if she got turned and staked. Now that would be a bumber. So are you talking about a Vampire Slayer TV show or full feature movie. Brittany Vampire Slayer, LOL. They should keep Buffy going on just like Star Trek. It it's as ground breaking almost as Star Trek and just as cool. Cooler if your into vamps. TrueBlood is good enough for now. They are only on book two of Charlaine Harris original books. They are following the story a book at a time. So that means TrueBlood unless something happens could last around ten years which is as long as TV shows can last. Matter of fact the actress Anna Paquin that plays Sookie now will be to old in 5 years to play her role. I was hoping in the book when Sookie got to be in her late about 28, which to me is just perfect she would ask Bill or Eric to turn her. The the books would change too. Sookie Stackhouse Vampire Queen, LOL

message 232: by J.D. (new)

J.D. Stroube Its a full feature movie. I think it would be weird to call it Buffy the Vampire Slayer if they don't actually have Buffy in it...

message 233: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Well yes and no. The new Star Trek movie is called. Star Trek. The Orignial TV series was called Star Trek. The second TV series was called Star Trek. However the names of the Enterprise Capts change. So maybe they will work it like that. Brandi the Vampire Slayer. It is a remake and not a brand new series. So they could get away with making it Buffy the Vampire Slayer. All they would need was a brand new super hot Buffy, and it would work great. I can think of allot of examples. Dracula, for instance as the name of a vampire movie. That one name is so fixed in the mind as the Vampire name. They made tons of Dracula movies. I think they should use the first serial vampire story name. Varney the Vampyre and make it into a movie. Only movies have to have action and romance. Varney in the Penny Dreadfulls was just to creepy. However they could make a swave Vampire like John Polodoris, Lord Ruthven. I think they never used Carmilla as the source of a big movie. Because of the lesbian or bisexual nature of Carmilla. Which audtiences are no more ready for than now than Victor the swinging Vamp,LOL. The Crying Game is probably one of the best dramas of the 90s. But because the main charater is a Black Drag queen. The movie was largely overlooked. It is one bad ass movie. In TrueBlood they have gay people & vampires and blackulas left, and right. Hell everyones favorite charter other than Sookie is probably Laffayette. But in the books. Lafeyette gets knocked of right at the start of the second book and is found stinking in his car. Ouch! Just have to wit and see I guess. I still want CARMILLA!

message 234: by J.D. (new)

J.D. Stroube If you go to this site and click on films it will give you a list of films that are about, or based on Carmilla. I don't know if any of them are good, but you might find something close to what you're looking for...
Did you also know that there is a book called Carmilla:the return?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carmilla...

message 235: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Oh yeah trust me Joy searching out stuff on Carmilla has been one of my pastimes. Carmilla the Return is low budget porn. Carmilla was first published in Londons "Dark Blue" magazaine in 1872 as a long short story by Irish horror writer and resident of Dublin, Sheridan La Fanu. The Irish love their ghost stories. So at the advise of his publisher in London. La Fanu wrote a book based on old Irish ghost & supernatural stories. The result was " In a Glass Darkly". It is about occult metaphysical physician Dr Martin Hesselius. The book is his case files on occult illness he attended in the capcity of a doctor. Carmilla is the last case file in that book. Really a cleverly written book. It makes you believe Dr. Hesselius is a real guy and these are real stories. All the movies based on Carmilla are not even close to the original. No Schloss in Styria and mysterious meeting as a child or the second meeting when Carmillas carriage crahes in front of the now grown Laura's house. The closest yet is Carmilla 2009 with Simmone Kayne. It at least was filmed in Styria and has a castle instead of a Schloss. There is a carriage crash and there all similarity ends. It turns into a porno film with a love triangle between a guy and two girls. The blonde Simmone does not even look vaguely like the description of Carmilla. Medium height long curly thick brunette hair. Extremely good looking, and slender. Best of all she is warm to the touch. If anyone had the brains to do a really acurate Carmilla they would have a hit. It really is a good love story and not that long. A Moravian noble man was one of Carmillas many male lovers. He loved her enough to hide her grave even though he knew she was Vampire. Camrilla was turned into a vamp by a man. So she avoids men in her after life. Carmilla is very secretive and will not tell Laura anything of her past. When Laura says "Carmilla I am sure when you finally tell me something of yourself there will be some great love story you have to reaveal." Carmilla answers "Yes there was,a cold cruel love. But it will upset me and I cannot talk about it." Hmm.

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments The best book on the origins of vampires is "The Phantom World a treaties on vampires and revelants" by Dom Augustine Calmet. It discusses the Magian Posthuma which you just can't find in print, and other early gothic vampire folk lore and documented true stories. The cheapest copy I could find was $73.OO plus shipping. So I am going to have to save a few more pennies. This book is without a doubt the last word on the real origins, and beliefs surrounding western Gothic vampirism as depicted in Moravia, Stytria, Transylvania, and other Romanian states cira 1700 to 1850. I have read some pieces of it, and it is the source for real deal info. A book every real vampire fan should have in their library.

message 237: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Coolio for real. They have a cheaper version of "The Phantom World" at Amazon.com that is a paper back with fewer illustrations for $35 new. Or you can get a used copy like I just did for $10. Now I have the straight dope on Vampires & Revelants, The Magia Posthuma is in this book as well as other vampire cases from circa 1700 to 1850. Plus disertations on the habits of vampires. This was written by a guy who really was a believer in vampires and the gothic legends that surrouned them. It's sraight dope from the horses mouth. Also dont forget TrueBlood season 2 http://us.mg201.mail.yahoo.com/dc/lau...

Well yes Joy I am half way through Dead As A Doornail, and I only have Dead and Gone to read left. You told me your husband says it was depressing. Why? Does Sookie die?, Bill,Eric,Sam,Pam, Claudine. Those are the only characters I care about. Does Sookie get turned. Does she have to leave the magic kingdom. What could be so depressing. I am dying to know. I was bumbed when the Queen of Lousiana Josephine Le Clerque got offed. But I could handle it. Do the Las Vegas Vamps get out of hand? Eager minds are dying to know, LOL

message 240: by J.D. (new)

J.D. Stroube LOL He's not home at the moment, but I'll ask him later tonight. Are you sure you want to know, though? LOL I dont want to tell you, and then you get ticked cause it ruins the book for you...I'll have him send you an email from my account cause I dont want him to say in this forum in case someone else reads it...I dont want to ruin someones day... So check your email tomorrow! :)

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Yup I want to know. What may be depressing to your husband might not be depressing to me. But maybe I dont want all the gory details. Just a slight hint. Does Sookie live? Does she get turned? Does she have to leave the magic world behind here. Thats all I want to know. There is a new Vampire show on the CW chanel 19 this Fall called The Vampire Diaries. So now there will be two vampire shows. Whoo hoo!

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Cirque du Freak series. Vampires Assistant is good. It is a great YA book that is way different from the romance series books, and can be read by an adult. A real refreshing change. Of coure Sookie Stackhouse remaines the best Southern romance vampire mysctery seris around. Then their are those two old stand bys Carmilla & Dracula. Why people even bother with Twilight I have not been able to figure.
