I am not a moderator but I did open a couple of folders and the owner of this group didn't mind.
I opened a folder for new member intros but suddenly it disappeared. Wonder where it went?

I really don't mind if any of you start new folders, discussions, etc. To me, that's what Goodreads is all about! :) We're a group, and I'm just one member. Happy posting!
I think that only discussion group moderators CAN crete folders.

I have created a few but when I tried to create the Introductions one it disappeared. Probably something I did wrong altho I had previously done them correctly. Sometimes I am overly tired and so can't remember how I did them previously.

Oops, I just tried again on the introductions one and this time it seemed to work. If you look down the discussions list it appears I have created 5 folders in the past, I think?

In order for the folders to show up on the members page there has to be discussion topics moved into the folders that are created.I ran into this problem within my group and realised later that I had to actually put the discussion threads into designated folders. I hope this helps.
Can someone who can create folders add one for movie vs book discussions? I think that keeping these separate may foster discussion.

On-Topic Movie Chat Where folks talk about the Twilight movies and how they compare to the books, etc.
Kitchen Sink Chat. Where folks are free to talk about anything that strikes their fancy.
