to pick it up later and love it, or just really like it?

Mary (marybt) | 336 comments Atonement. I *think* Ian McKewn wrote it.

I distinctly remember putting it down 3 or 4 times at page 23. I couldn't get past page 23. But one day I soldiered on and I ended up really liking it.

Emily O (readingwhilefemale) | 10 comments I put down The Fellowship of the Ring the first time or two. The beginning is just so slow, but I ended up loving the whole series, of course.
I also really wanted to give up on Possession for the first 100 pages or so, but luckily I stuck with it, and it ended up being one of my favorite books.

Viola | 1014 comments For me it was The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. So slow in the beginning... But it picked up after the Vanger family mystery was presented. And in the end, I was glad that I read it.

Same here. So many names and places to remember, some of them I couldn't even pronounce. I put it down for a week thinking I would forget about it. But the opposite happened, I couldn't stop thinking about it. So I went ahead and watched the movie. Cheated a little bit haha. After that, I inhaled that whole trilogy.

Holli Great question Tera! For me it was The Time Traveler's Wife It took me 3 times to finally get started on that one and then I loved it!

OMG, me too. I finished on my 2nd try. I liked it fine. Her second book I adored: Her Fearful Symmetry".

What are you reading now? I'm reading The Curious Incient of the Dog ...and I'm enjoying it mega more than I thought I would.

Lori Baldi | 184 comments I spoke of the book which answers that question on another post recently: Doctor Zhivago by Boris Pasternak . I started Dr. Z when I was in high school and tried it 2 or 3 times after that. It always nagged at me whenever the subject came up of Russian novels. I think I had to grow into that novel and I'm very pleased that I can say that I've finished it. I would like to tackle the Mac Daddy of Russian Lit someday: War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy . Don't know how old I'll be by then!

This is another I couldn't put down from the word go- I'm addicted to historicals and coming of age books.

Yes, Possession I put down and re-read and loved it so I went through Children's book from beginning to end. But LOTR - I read all the books through before I was done- my family was on hold
