Help! Need recommendations for Happy/Uplifting books

We have a member going through a difficult time (a friend is dying) and I was hoping we could come up with some recommendations that uplift the spirit or make a person laugh yourself silly. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I recommend Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. I laughed myself silly reading this one. I'll try to think of some more.
