Welcome Shelli & Liz :)
Check the How To thread and if you're still confused, feel free to send me a message... Or we could help you choose your first book for shelf of the month (whether it's this month or next) when you're ready

So the shelves are already here somewhere on GR...someone each month picks a shelf, and then we the other members, pick a book that has 1000 or more votes and read and review it from that shelf? Am I getting this at all...lol!

Yes & No :)
Yes, a chosen member will pick a shelf for the month and then the group will pick a book or two or more from that particular shelf to read for that month (the book doesn't have to have 1,000 votes).
I think you're confusing it with when you're choosing the shelf to only pick a shelf where there are at least 1,000 books on it.
Hope that helps...

I am new to this group, hope it's ok that I just jumped right in and read a time travel book. I think I got the basic concept of the group - love the idea of trying new stuff - but I also wanted to say 'Hi' (even if I did it in the wrong order of things.
Thanks, after strolling through more of the group posts, am even more glad to be a part of it. Eager to see what next months shelf will be.
Debbie wrote: "Eager to see what next months shelf will be."I was thinking that, too, Debbie. And with Thanksgiving (in the US) coming right up, I thought it would be good to get the ball rolling now. I've messaged Coralie and the ball is now in her court. :)
yeah, I will have to go back and mark that thread as following so I get update when it is posted. Thanks Luann!
Hi All, I'm a new member just saying 'hi'.
Love the idea of the group - I'm quite into genre fiction, and always after something new to try.
looking forward to seeing what comes up.
Thankx
Chris
Hey All, I'm Sarah, 24, and I live in Victoria, Australia. I have always loved to read and have tried to keep a bit of variety but end up floating back to my safe areas. This group seems perfect to keep me moving and trying different things, i’m really excited about the December Shelf. Thanks:)
Hey everyone, I'm Madison. I'm 21, in college, married and I have a 2 year old daughter. I like the idea of this group, especially since I've been working on expanding the genres I read lately.
Welcome to Sarah and Madison! My favorite time of each month is when the new shelf picker and shelf get announced. The suspense about kills me!
Hello everyone, my name is Erynn and I have a confession: ever since I was given a Kobo my purse has been full of thousands of books that I want to read and yet can't seem to jump into yet. I prefer Urban-Fantasy type novels, when I was younger it was this and Occult. When I was going to University I thought it made me look smarter to read Classics (not only that but it impressed my English prof Aunt and Classic Bibliophile Grandmother)
Right now I have re-read the same two series too many ties to count and I need a little push branching out, it looks like this just might be the place to help with that! (Midnight Breed Series and Women of the Otherworld Series)
Oh and I hail from Victoria (N. Saanich) British Columbia.
Hey Erynn - Glad to see you in this group. It is actually the first group that I ever joined on Goodreads, and it is still my main group. They are a great bunch of ladies, and the concept of the group is so much fun.
I have not been on this thread for a long time, and I have missed so many new member's introductions. Sorry all, but welcome to the group. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you, and some of you I have already been talking with on the other threads.
Hi Lyn! I'm excited about joining this group! It will be a treat for sure to check out some new genres!
Hey y'all. My name is Cat, short for Caitlin, not Catherine, Katherine, Catlyn or anything else like that. I'm a senior studying English, history, the classical and medieval eras here at uni and I've loved stories since I was a wee tyke and books since before I could read. I love the feel of them, the weight of them in my hand, having to fight with those heavy paperbacks while lying in bed and trying to read with one hand, everything that goes with the reading experience - which is exactly why I refuse to buy a nook.
Like I said, I love stories. I will read almost anything, though my preferred genre as of late is urban fantasy (though I prefer the title "supernatural thrillers," since most of them seem to be mysteries or of that ilk). It is also the genre I'm most comfortable writing, since I can make almost anything up and as long as it makes sense and people can relate to it, it's "okay." I also like being able to withdraw from Reality for awhile and go live in My Own Little World(s). 't'is much fun.
Not sure what else to say...*ponders* Nope, nothing for now. Looking forward to participating in this group, though. I've been searching through the various book clubs looking for a sort of book challenge group and this is the best one I've seen so far. Glad to be here. :)
Welcome, Cat. Glad to see you here. I have to agree, this is the best group with the challenges we do and the great ladies, and the way things are set up.
I'll give you another reason not to get a Nook. The other night I was reading before going to sleep. Well, I started to fall asleep, and it fell as books often do, but instead of just hitting my face, the thing hit my lip against a tooth. I actually ended up with a fat lip, lol.

Welcome, Cat! I agree that this is one of the best groups for challenges - although I didn't look at too many more once I found this group. :)

That sounds painful. :c
Thanks for the alliterative welcome, Lyn and Luann. :)
Other than feeling stupid, I am fine, lol. Just have to be more careful reading before I go to sleep. If they pass a law that you can't use an e-reader in bed, you all will know who to blame,:)

Makes you a perfect addition to this group.

Welcome!
Hi! I've completely forgotten to introduce myself, I'm so sorry! My name is Vigdis, I'm 17 years old, I live in Norway and I joined this group in August. I love reading (of course) and like this group because it inspires me to read books from genres I wouldn't normally have considered. I usually read contemporary fiction. I prefer reading paperbacks (hardcovers are okay) before e-books, I guess it feels more right when I'm holding the real thing. Well, I guess that's about it. Sorry for the late introduction!
Hi Jake... "addicted" eh? I am told we all are afflicted with this "condition"Hi Vigdis, better late than never.
hey everyone - i'm Dee. I live in Maryland and am in the Navy. I found this group after looking at the profile of a friend in another group and i'm always on the lookout for ways to challenge myself in my reading. Looking forward to pushing my boundaries and reading some new/interesting books
lol...well, I already had the book in progress...so I feel like i'm cheating a bit...but I've actually read a lot of books on that shelf already...mostly more of the classic ones
Welcome, Dee. Glad to see you here. It is a great group and we have a great time. Check out the ROAR challenge. I think you will like it.
Welcome, Delicious Dee Challenge Addict! I agree with Lyn. I think you should check out our ROAR challenge. :)
Hey Dee, nice to see you around - you just can't get enough can you? lolGreat to have you here, you will like the way this one works, offers great variety to inter change with all your other challenges, that is a game in itself, isn't it?

Hi i'm Ally. I live in Toronto Ontario and am a fifteen year old girl who goes to an over populated high school. I've got an nose peircing with a hoop in it and im really shy. I'm a bookworm and proud, and if i dont have a book with me then something is wrong. I read all sorts of different novels so dont ask me to pick one genre it is impossible! I have a wide range of favourite books from Harry Potter to The Notebook, but i mostly read YA books. I'm also a writer (or so i like to think) and i'd love to be an author when i grow up. My Major role models are Laurie Halse Anderson, Nina LaCour, Ned Vizini and many more. I'm pron to read too many books at once put i eventually get through them all. I like to buy my books not borrow them from the library cause i have a bad habbit of dog earing them and highlighting my favourite parts an quotes. I re-read alot of my books because i read really fast and sometimes i miss little things.
All in all i love to read and i'm glad they made a group dedicated to book lovers.
