Hi Lizz! I have dyslexia (and ADHD) so I also struggled with reading when I was younger too. When I was younger I never thought that I would like reading, but around high school I started to really enjoy it. Glad to have you in the group!
I just discovered audiobooks, and really love that format...but I still love the feel of a book in my hand. Good teachers are key! I have learned so many strategies that make reading easier and more enjoyable.
Natasha wrote: "Yeah, there's something about holding a book that's an amazing feeling. I want to get an ereader, but I would never give up physical books."I've got an ereader and I haven't given up physical books, I still buy just as many now as I did before I got the reader. The big adavantage an ereader has over physical books is when it comes to holidays, now I can take hundreds instead of just what I can carry and I'm in no danger of running out of books to read while I'm away.

Hi Lizz and welcome to our group. I have a daughter who turned 23 two weeks ago. She also has ADHD and a seizure disorder. She just graduated from college with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and is going on to Grad School in the fall. You can do anything if you put your mind to it. Congratulations for perservering, I know there were times you probably wanted to give up. This group will definitely help you with your reading and insight into what you read. I learn a lot from this group and the way different people see different meanings to the same words on a page.
Hi I am Lynne from Dorset UK. Hope you don't mind me joining you. I have hundreds of books to read in my own library and some of your shelf challenges look great to do.
Hi everyone! My name is Bri. I'm from Indy. I've been on goodreads for a few months now, and got lonely with my front page saying no updates. Searched out and was happy to find this group as I typically read one genre but have been trying to branch out. I have a stack of books checked out from the library that I need to read before picking up anything new. Planning to start with you guys in August! I'm really excited about it!
Welcome, Bri! Don't feel like you have to wait until August. Or with a stack of library books sitting there, you might want to jump in on our YOU CHOOSE challenge. We just started a week and a half ago, so it's definitely not too late.
Welcome, Bri! I live in Bloomington. As far as I know, you're the first GR member to live anywhere close to me. I'm excited about that! I second Luann's suggestion that you jump in on the YOU CHOOSE challenge. It'll be fun. Check it out.
Hello everyone, I'm ceinwin, 25 from Paris and a huge reader. My favorite genres are historical fiction and crime/mysteries. But i'm always looking for new reading experiences and this group seems perfect for that.
Welcome to all of the new members.
Lizz - my son has dyslexia and , like Tara, high school is when he really started enjoying reading. He reads like a fiend now.
Lynne - I love this group because it gets me to read a lot of different genres. That way I can make a dent in all of the books that I have on hand. Hope it does the same for you.
Bri - This group will certainly get you out of a genre rut!
Ceinwin - We have the same favorite genres, but I have learned to love reading all genres thanks to this group!

Hi, everyone! My name is Donna and I am from Western MA. I love to find new types of books to read and this looks like a great place to find new ideas and nudges. Let's see how it goes!
hey there, finally getting organized and finding my way around.......my name is Karen, i am on disability, and was unable to read for quite a few months last year, but started in full force just before christmas and am enjoying myself.....still have to complete 2009 taxes..lola bit about myself.....my short term memory is not so great, and my words can come out not quite the way i want them to, i love animals, esp. dogs, jake (profile pic) is my best friend.......

Hi! I'm Carol from CT. I love books. I spend a lot of time reading a variety of books and volunteering as a docent at an art museum. I look forward to being apart of the group.
Good Morning! I'm Bonnie. I've been on Goodreads for awhile, I am just starting to venture in and participate in different areas. I am always looking for ways to add books to my "to read" stack that transport me out of my comfort zone.
welcome robyn.......i love reading the reviews, i hope i will eventually learn how to write a better review....k
Salutations! I thought joining a group would enocurage me to become active on Goodreads again. I love the idea of this group, and hope it will encourage me to go beyond my usual bizarre fantasy/mystery/sci-fi read. :3
Welcome, Alison! We will help you stretch! September's shelf is Latin America - although you can probably find books from each of your preferred genre on that shelf as well. :)
Hello. This is a great idea for a group, and I hope that I'll get some inspirational recommendations which will take me into new, for me, genres. I find that thought very exciting!
The big appeal is that it is a take-it-or-leave it group. Some recommendations will receive a body swerve, but there will be the odd one that comes along that makes me think, "Wow! I could take a look at that one. It's something I may never have spotted without this group."
Congratulations on a great idea, and I look forward to reaping the benefits of joining you.
Lance
Welcome, Lance! That's what it's all about - trying a genre you might not have chosen on your own and finding books outside of your comfort zone that you might not have read otherwise. Of course we do a lot of reading IN our comfort zones as well. :)
Hi, my name's Martina and I'm a book addict :) I buy books secretly so my boyfriend doesn't know I'm getting new ones...I love challenges and I love learning new things through books and finding out about different genres. There aren't many themes I won't read about so this group will be perfect to reach out for more diversity
hi there alison, this is what i am hoping for as well, to get out and explore more.......i just recieved a book order from amazon.ca with some books suggested from this group, and more to come from the library, that i would not have even been on my radar.....k
Hi all. I'm Erin, a 21 year old English lit student from Sydney. I'm always keen to fit in what I can around my prescribed uni texts, and this group has a great set-up for pushing me out of my comfort zone. :) Looking forward to reading all your reviews.
Hi. My name is Lisa, and I have become addicted to Goodread's. I have joined and am keeping up with several groups and have several interests. I was intrigued by the "pick a shelf" idea. I was pleased to see that I have a great "Latin America" selection already on my "to read" list Portrait in Sepia, so I think I will give it a try. I have acquired a huge stack of books and a long TBR list, so it might be nice to have some guidance as where to go next and perhaps to even explore other possibilities that I haven't considered before. Looking forward to the challenge.
Greetings from the Windy City! I just came across this group and think it is a neat idea. I really think that picking various shelves will help open up the door for me to a plethora of genres that I may not have read before.Happy reading everyone!
