Hi guys! I'm May, 22 and am an university student. I have two adorable cats, enjoys curling up on my bed with a good book (don't we all?) and my most treasured possession is my dSLR camera. My bookshelf consists of fantasy and paranormal romance books but recently, I have decided to challenge myself to reading other genres. I'm hoping to find some new treasure of a different genre to add to my collection. I'm glad that I've came across this group and I certainly hope to be a part of it. :)
Hi May, Welcome to the group. I also have 2 cats and they used to lay with me when I read when they were kittens. Unfortunately, they like to roam now. I miss that. I think you will find some new treasures, I know that I have.
Welcome May. This is a good group for widening your genre horizons. BTW - I just got a dSLR and I LOVE it (though I'm not entirely good at using it yet). What kind of pics do you like to take?
Thanks for the welcome guys! I love how everyone is so friendly in this group. I'm usually quite shy when it comes to introductions and tend to just skip them entirely.Oh and Lyn, I enjoy doing still-life shots and animal photography. I'm not good at portrait so I usually steer away from those. :)
I don't do portraits either, although my husband definitely has a knack for those, but I like nature, vistas, sunsets, trees, flowers, and especially old barns (not sure why, just like them)
Hi everyone,My name is Josie (28) and I LOVE LOVE LOVE to read. My family jokes that I read the backs of cereal boxes... what, doesn't everyone? Actually, the rest of my family is just as bad. I like a range of authors from Jane Austen to Terry Pratchet to Roald Dahl, and I often run out of things to read! I'm looking forward to finding some new loves here... staring with the monthly thingie.
Yay to reading!
welcome to the group Josie! I think you'll definately find some new loves here. Last Christmas my parents teased me because my wishlist consisted of all books and was 3 pages long- after a couple of months on goodreads its now 5!
Hi Josie, I've been here less than a month and have enjoyed it immensely--hope you find it the same!
Welcome Josie. You will really like this group. The monthly shelf is a really great way to keep your reading varied.

hey all! I am a member of two other groups, so hopefully I will be able to keep up with this one. I like the idea of trying out different kind of books and widening the type of things I read... I start school again next fall and I have a two year old, but I will try my best to keep up. I love to read.

I just joined last month with Dystopia being the shelf--it certainly broadened my typical genres, I'm sure it will for you too. :-)
Welcome Blarneygod. I am a teacher too. I have two kids under five at home as well. I think that my favorite part about this group is that you can read as many or as few books as you like. It is all about exploring new genres and finding out about books that you may have never heard of. It is really relaxed.
Hey Tina and Tara. Thank you very much for the welcome. Actually Tara, I am not a teacher, I am going to be a student next fall. My current plan is to study animal science and go on to veterinary school.

Actually my daughter wants to be a vet too (of course she is only 6 so she has a while before she starts). Good luck with school! I have been taking classes and it is a lot of work balancing school and kids, and I would assume Vet school would be more intensive. I know you are/and will stay busy.
Hi there, I've been a member for awhile and finally decided to come out of the Lurkers' Lounge and play!I'm Gaijinmama, from the U.S. but permanently living here in Tokyo. I teach part-time at a couple of universities and love any opportunity to talk about books.
I'm going to check out the current shelf and join in.
Surely some of the books are in my TBR mountains!
I may try the Chain Challenge too, I do love Challenges.
We're glad you came out of the "Lurkers' Lounge" to play, Gaijinmama! I think you'll fit right in here!
Welcome to Emily, Gaijinmama, and Blarneygod. Hope you all enjoy the group. I love it, it is a great way to broaden my reading horizons.
Hi All! I'm Christy (32). I'm a recent transplant from the west coast to Dallas. I'm an avid reader and looking forward to branching out from my usual reads. I'm glad I've found a group that will help me expand my horizons!
Hi to all the new members...I enjoy this site...even if I don't get to participate actively in all of the projects.
Hi Gaijinmama, Emily, and Christy, welcome to the group. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have! This is my third shelf/month & I'm having a blast :) It certainly stretches me--I mean French? Would I ever would have gone to amazon and thought, hmmm, I'm in the mood for a French book today. Love it! ;)
I'm glad you are liking the group so far, Tina. This is also my third "shelf/month" and I'm really loving it.
I skipped doing an intro when I first jumped into the group -- that was at the very end of March, so I really started with April's shelf. I thought it was about time.
I'm 64, a middle-school math teacher, and live in Indiana. I can't remember when I didn't love reading, but what I focus on tends to shift from time to time. I always love mysteries, and recently have been exploring science fiction, including some of the classics. Also, we've had a faculty book club at my school for a couple years where we choose books our students are reading, so I've been discovering a lot of y/a fiction. QUITE different from what was available when I was a young adult eons ago! My all-time favorite author is probably Ursula K. Le Guin, beginning with her classic The Left Hand of Darkness.
I can already tell this group is just perfect for me! Thanks, everyone.

Welcome Susan! My family is from Indiana, and everyone, but me, went to Purdue. My brother is still there.
Welcome, Susan! I love the idea of a faculty book club reading books the students are reading! I don't think enough teachers do that.
Welcome Susan. This is a great group, and has really helped me to broaden my horizons. Hope you enjoy it here!
Hi I'm Mercy! I'm 20 and I love reading. I read mainly general fiction and stuff like that but I want to discover all of those amazing books out of my genre range. I'm from Cameroon :)
Welcome Mercy!! It is fun to find books that I normally would not pick up. Challenges have been fun too!
Greetings fellow readers! I stumbled across this group and found the concept fascinating. I'm 47 and live in Cincinnati, OH. I adore books and reading!! My favorite genres are mystery and general fiction. I'm really looking forward to reading with you all!
Welcome Suzanne. Glad to have you aboard. It is a great concept, huh. I saw in the other thread that you have Claude & Camille: A Novel of Monet I read that one and would love to hear what you think of it when you read it.
Hello,my name is Eden and i look forward to reading new books and forcing myself to try new authors. Thanks for having me and i look forward to starting a book on the shelf list in June.
Welcome Eden, this group has really helped me to broaden my horizons, and I have found lots of authors that were new to me that I ended up loving.
Welcome Suzanne, Eden and Sharon!I have found that reading time slows down at 1st after the baby comes, but then it gets easier once you get on a schedule! Not too much longer now!
Hey i'm Lizz and i'm 22 about to be 23. I foster puppies and I have two dogs of my own. I'm dyslectic but I love to read. If it wasn't for the english teachers I had in high school I won't be reading at all. I was reading on a 2nd grade level going into high school and left at a 9th grade level. I also have ADHA. You guys can ask me anything you what to know about what I went thourgh.
