Hi. I'm Lynne. I'm just about to turn 45 (yikes!) have two boys, two dogs, 1 husband, and 1 teaching job that keep me very busy so I don't have nearly as much time to read as I would like. Plus I read really slowly. But I do love to read almost everything. I don't much like romance and horror would be a complete no-no for me but I am anxious to try some different authors and vary the rounds of all the other generes. Plus it will be fun to get the chance to discuss some great books.
New to the group. I am 53, the mother of a freshman is college, married and retired. You would think that I have plenty of time to read, right, but things just seem to keep coming up. My husband and I have recently started to travel a bit, but his business keeps us tied down at times. Anyway, I am an eclectic reader, so the idea of picking a different genre each month really appeals to me. Lets see how it works out.
Hi, I'm Anne from Chicago ("Is it spring yet?"), Illinois. Looking for tips on some great new reads! Thanks for creating this group.

I'm from the L.A. area and I love to drive down to SD every chance I get. I like visiting Seaport Village and having lunch at Harbor House restaurant. They have a cute little bookstore there too that I love to shop at called Upstart Crow.
Hi Everyone, I am a huge reader and completely OCD so the reading challenges are my favorite things to do! I am from Maine and am looking forward to starting this next round of reading with you guys!
Leora wrote: "Hi Everyone, I am a huge reader and completely OCD so the reading challenges are my favorite things to do! I am relatively new also, but LOVE this group. Welcome aboard
Hi I'm Kristen and I'm addicted to books, Goodreads, and goodreads groups and challenges. I found out about this group from another group and am excited to get to know this group and do some of the games/challenges.
Welcome to the group Kristen. This is a really great group of people and the challenges are cool. I'm sure you will like it as much as I do.
Hi! This groups sounds like a lot of fun. I'm Jennifer from Saint Louis, MO. I love to read, even though school books take up a lot of my time.
Welcome to the group. Where in Saint Louis do you live? I lived in Florissant until I was 12, but have lived in California since then.
Lyn- Thank you for the welcome. I live on the Northside by the white water tower. Have you been back to visit?

Not recently, but I need to do that sometime soon. I get nostalgic sometimes.

Hi, I'm Patricia from DFW Texas. I'm hoping to get out of my murder mystery rut and read something new. I usually read about 6 books a month, I'm looking forward to next months challenge.
Hi, I'm Jamie, currently in Seattle but moving to Los Angeles in July. I am currently a stay at home mom to a 13 month old. I have always loved to read but I've gotten lazy about it over the last few years.(too much television) I got addicted to goodreads in October and my reading has picked up quite a bit.
Patricia wrote: "Hi, I'm Patricia from DFW Texas. I'm hoping to get out of my murder mystery rut and read something new. I usually read about 6 books a month, I'm looking forward to next months challenge."Hi Patricia
The Shelf-a-Thon has just started this month so any books you may have already read for may would count. This challenge goes until July 31st so feel free to join now, it's never to late :0)
Hi, I'm Kelly,I love to read and got hooked on Goodreads last year and I want to read books outside of my genre rut.
Hi, I'm Hayley. Living in London UK, originally from Perth, Western Australia.I'm trying to get back into the habit of reading regularly. I really enjoy ready all sorts of genres, but find my mind easily wanders so I need books that will grip me! Suggestions welcome.
None of my regular friends seem to want to sign up to goodreads, so maybe I will find some cyber goodreads friends here!
Welcome to the group, Hayley! Feel free to jump right in. For June our featured shelf is Classics. And you're not too late to join in on our Shelf-a-Thon, if you like.Edit: Or if you read any science fiction books in the next few days, you could post about those as well.
Welcome Halyley. This is a great group and we have lots of fun discussions, so we're glad to have you aboard.
Hello, I'm Lyceriabyrd... you can either call me Lyceria or Byrd...I LOVE reading... I'll be 15 soon and for my b-day all I want is books!!!
I Love Shannon Hale's books... Fairytales in general capture my attention... I also like Sharon Creech... I really love goodreads...
Hi I'm Emily, but you can call me Milly. I am a bookworm! I love to read and write(although I don't think I am good at the writing part). I'm 11 years old and live in Canada. Of course, I am a girl. This is great! Thanks for creating it.
Welcome to the group, Chelsea! I think all of us here know a little bit about being hooked on Goodreads. :)
Boy is that an understatement, Luann, at least where I am concerned. Hey Chelsea -- welcome to the group. I am Lynne's sister (don't be confused by the name, my name is actually Carolyn, but I use Lyn for everyone but my family). Do you teach at Hardin? What subject. And I know how it is having Lynne get you hooked on things, she has gotten me hooked on many books, songs, games, etc. over the years.
Anyway - welcome to the group and enjoy.

Hi all, I'm Mary from Texas. I've been a lurker for some time but decided it was time to start participating in some of these groups I belong to. So I'm finally speaking up in the ones that have periodic scheduled reads and challenges, because they help me prioritize my overwhelming TBR list. I have so many, it's difficult to decide what to read next without a little nudge in one direction or another. I *love* the pick-a-shelf idea!I'm always open to new friends, so feel free to compare books and send me a request. :)
~Peace
Hi Mary welcome on board, You to Chelsea :0)I really enjoy the atmosphere in this group as there is no pressure to read. You can read as much or as little as you are comfortable with, but I have to agree doing challenges really does motivate you to get through mount TBR. :op

I can believe it. She has gotten me hooked on many games.

Hi there. I am Leigh Ann. I live in Georgia and I love to read. Looking for a group to join and found this one.
Hey there, Leigh Ann. Welcome! You'll fit right in here. It isn't a requirement, obviously, but having an "L" name seems to be something of a trend here. :)
Hey another L name. And the trend continues. This is a great group so so I'm sure you will fit right in. Looking forward to further conversations.
Hello! I'm Rebecca. I work part time in a library and am always running across different books that make me say "Oooh. I've got to read that." Despite that, I always end up back in front of my same old shelf. I'm just hoping to find new and interesting books to read. =)
Hey *waves*. My name is also Rebecca and I'm from Sydney. I'm 19 and a university student so my free time (and consequently the time I have for reading) is practically non-existent. However, the little time I do have to spare I spend reading and I've been meaning to get out of my comfort zone so ... here I am!
Welcome, Rebecca! Feel free to jump right in - read an Asian book for November, post your review, and/or start your list for the One Shelf Down challenge.
Hi my name is Chris and I am interested in starting the Challenge. I live in Queensland and although I don't have a lot of time for reading, it is my favourite past time. I'm hoping to find new books/ genres that will broaden my regular reads.
Hello, everyone! My name is Candiss, and (like most folks here) I'm a hopeless bookworm. I love speculative fiction of all flavors (sci-fi, intelligent fantasy, magical realism, alternate history, non-gratuitous horror) as well as non-fiction, humor/satire, history, classics...etc., etc., etc. I joined this group because I love themes and challenges and hope to discover some great books I might miss if I stick to my "usual" genres.I have a passion for short stories, so I often use collections as a vehicle for exploring outside familiar genre territory, bite by bite.
I started the OSD challenge with this month's theme, Asian.
Welcome, Chris and Candiss! That's one of the reasons I joined as well - for that little push on a monthly basis in reading a wider variety of genres than I normally would. I've read some great books I probably never would have read since joining.

nice to have another Sydney-sider onboard! What course are you doing?
Cathy wrote: "Hi Rebecca, nice to have another Sydney-sider onboard! What course are you doing?"
Hey Cathy.
It's always great to know that there's someone nearby =). I just finished my first year of psychology. It's very interesting, but first year is pretty much just an overview of everything. I can't wait to get stuck into the more in-depth learning.
Since I am the Shelf Picker for December, I guess I best formally introduce myself.I'm Jim. I'm a Pisces and I enjoy long walks on the beach and morning snuggles. Friends first, more later. Oh wait, that's not what is supposed to go here.
Let's try this again.
I'm Jim. I'm a book-addict. (Hi, Jim) I put down my last book, 10 minutes ago. I was only going to peek to see what POV the next chapter was going to be, but then I had to finish the chapter. *Hangs head in shame* What? It's not that type of thing either?
Well, third times the charm.
I'm Jim. SN is PhotoJim because I'm a photographer. I'm 40 and happily married for 17+ years with two teenage sons. I read more than the average person but less than some. I'm at just over 42,000 pages of recreational reading so far this year. In the 70's I read mostly fantasy. In the 80's I read a lot of fantasy, SF, and philosophy. In the 90's I read mostly SF, fantasy, and general bestsellers. The 00's started with more of the same. But about two years ago I started to read ROMANCE novels. (*gasp* A reasonably well adjusted married straight guy with a social life reading romance novels? Go figure, but I already get enough jokes from friends and family.) Pennsylvania native living in Ohio for nearly a decade. And some day I'll go through journals and logs and list every book I've ever read. (or not)
Good luck with the shelf all!
Jim - That is probably the best intro I have ever read! and BTW - one of my groups actually has a bookaholics thread, and we do introduce ourselves as you did above.
I love it, Jim. My mom loves reading romance novels and , a little secret, In high school it was a favorite pastime of my friends and mine to sneak a book from my mom and try to find the sexy parts. I guess that is why I still blush when I read some romance novels. People may poke fun, but I wonder how many of them have ever took a peek at some point. Just wondering if you ever picked up Mona Lisa Awakening. I read this for one of the shelves we read (I think) and it was a blend of romance, fantasy, and horror.
