Yep, I got that especially when I tried spelling my name Jaime. I was in Guatemala for a mission trip in high school and when I told them my name. I got strange looks. Some people think my name is Jayne and pronounce it Jane.

Vicki Fitzgerald (vickifitzgerald) | 2 comments Hi, I'm Vicki, a debut crime thriller author. I look forward to connecting with the group.

I am also looking for reviewers for my novel, Briguella. If it takes your fancy then message me and I can email it to you.

Here is a glimpse of the book trailer https://www.goodreads.com/videos/1302...

Blurb: After seven women fall victim to a serial killer, journalist Kate Rivendale becomes embroiled in the manhunt. The authorities have no suspect, only one forensic link dating way back to the 1930s.

Detective Chief Inspector William Beckley needs to salvage his career; he has too many deaths on his conscience. Beckley entices Kate to go undercover, a decision which backfires with devastating consequences.

While DCI Beckley reaches a horrifying conclusion about the murderer Kate enters a desperate fight for her life... while battling to keep her own secrets buried.

Thanks Vicki

Wow! So many new members!!!

Welcome Lexus, Jasmin, Kim, Cheri, Kesha, Jayme, Chris, and Vicki. Feel free to look around and jump in on the challenges. Most of them run all year so there is plenty of time left to participate.

Wheel of Shelves has levels. A lot of us are working on both Round 1 and Round 2 simultaneously. Some are doing one level at a time. And some have finished the first level.

Anyway, feel free to jump right on in on any of the challenges.

Amy J. | 2 comments Hi,

I'm Amy I am 37 years old. I currently live in Kansas. I found this group when I stumbled across an old Monopoly bookshelf. Although I've decided that that looks to complicated for me right now, I thought some of the other challenges looked like fun. So here I am. My main challenge for the year is Book Riot's Read Harder challenge. But I've found that committing to one challenge has made me want to start doing others. Several years back I loved doing all kinds of reading challenges, then life happened and I stopped.

I read a lot of fantasy and science fiction. And recently a lot of J'AFF (Jane Austen Fan Fiction). My hope is that doing challenges will help me break out of this JAFF rut I've been in for the last 6 months.

Alixendra (travel_bug) | 16 comments Hi! I'm Alix. I currently live in Duluth, MN. After so many years of not reading as much as I used to I am trying to get back into it. I read basically any and every thing as long as it keeps my attention.

If you have any good recommendations that you'd like to share that'd also be great! I have a stack of books I'm going through right now, but could always use some more.

Adoro i romance, fantascienza e i gialli! Ho un debole per sherlock holmes :P

Grazie e buona giornata a tutti! :)

E.P., most of us read only English with a smattering of other languages. I have used Google translate to change your post to English. Welcome to our group!

E.P. said, "Hello everyone, I am a 27-year-old Roman girl, I do not currently work and I spend most of my time writing. The passion for writing was born about 3 years ago in an afternoon like many others, I had just finished reading a book when I told myself: why not create a story of my own?

From there everything was born, the characters and the story began to take shape more and more in my mind. I threw myself headlong into this world and now I'm struggling with the continuity of a beautiful modern fable. Anyone interested in learning more, can add me on Facebook @ e.p.silvia :)

Before writing, however, I am an assiduous reader.
I love romance, science fiction and yellows! I have a weakness for sherlock holmes: P

Thanks and have a nice day everyone! :)"

Jamie Whitehead Hello everyone,

My name is Jamie and I am from New Jersey. I recently read The Good Samaritan by John Marrs as part of the amazon first reads program and was captivated. A truly suspenseful thriller that I highly recommend. I usually stick to historical fiction, memoirs, and science fiction so it was a welcome change. I found myself wondering what other wonderful books I am missing out on outside of my normal reading genres. This group looks really fun and I look forward to getting started.

Isla (onlywordsandpages) | 3 comments Hi everyone! I'm Isla, from Cornwall in England. I work in a small local bookshop, and have set myself the task to read outside my comfort zone this year. This group seems like the perfect place to do that!
My favourite genres are fantasy or any book that's slightly odd or unusual, but always get questions from customers about which books I recommend, often in very specific genres, so it's something that I know I need to improve on. Can't wait to start!

If you don't mind me asking, where from Wisconsin are you from? I'm from Oshkosh, but I currently live in Appleton.

message 1122: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (midwestwriter) | 4 comments Hello book friends! My name is Jenny and I am most definitely a bookworm through and through. I was born with a book in my hand and I think the only time I wasn't/aren't reading is when I was alcoholic/drug addict, when I'm doing school, when I'm writing, or when I'm working on my music stuff or at a show. There was a long period of time in my life when I wasn't reading because I was to busy getting arrested, drinking, and neck deep into drugs. Five years sober and five years of my eyes stuck on a page - I wouldn't have been able to do it without the distraction of my poetry, music, and reading. I love reading and even as a little kid, I didn't know anyone who enjoyed reading like I enjoy reading, pretty much obsessed! With that, I wanted to meet some people who I could connect with through the love of books and reading so here I am and it is so great to meet all of you. Love all around! :)

I am familiar with Appleton because I went to college in Ripon, WI.

message 1124: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (midwestwriter) | 4 comments Now that I introduced myself and said why I'm here, there is another reason I am here. I am here not only to meet new book friends, but also for the most important person in my life, my beautiful, amazing grandma. My grandma who is the most mobile and independent 91 year old you will ever meet. Late in 2017 my granny fell and broke her hip (I believe), which led her to have to move into an assisted living. I didn't get her anything for Christmas because she doesn't want stuff, instead I made her and her friends dinner at the assisted living place. As that does sound like the perfect gift, I wanted to get her more. Something to keep her busy between trivia night and bingo night. She is always asking if I've read anything good lately and is always asking to bring the books I've read to her since we both like suspense books. However, what she doesn't know, we read completely different types of suspense reads. I feel if I handed her something like the Dexter series, any true crime book I ever read, or most of the books I choose from my Book of the Month subscription she would think something is wrong with me. :P

My point is to this long rant is, would any of you lovely people know of any book subscriptions out there that are geared more toward senior citizen women or the elderly? Or any place I could go looking for in search of good titles geared to that audience? Thank you for reading this whole post, by the way! :P

You can always try Agatha Christie and her Miss Marple series. The MC is a senior citizen.

Elvenn | 746 comments Jayme(the ghost reader) wrote: "You can always try Agatha Christie and her Miss Marple series. The MC is like 80 I believe..."

I was thinking about Agatha Christie too... My grandma used to love reading Agatha Christie and not only the Miss Marple series. And I saw her reading Anne Perry as well- the Inspector Pitt series especially-, Dorothy Sayers (Lord Peter Wimsey series) and Andrea Camilleri (Inspector Montalbano). I'm sure she would have enjoyed McCall Smith's The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series as well.

My other grandma read many Agatha Christie books in her youth but now she prefers Jean Plaidy's historical sagas and those about the early English queens are her favorite.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 1284 comments I like the No. 1 Ladies Detective series.

message 1130: by Tyra (new)

Tyra Hello! I live in the northern parts of Sweden and a good chunk off my life is spent buried in a book. My reading is dominated by sci-fi/fantasy, perhaps with a dollop of horror thrown into the mix. Lately I've been feeling that I'm limiting myself by being so rigid in my choice of books. When I stumbled upon this group I could think of no better way of broadening my reading. From now on at least one book each month will be outside of my preferred genres, hopefully I'll find new authors and stories to appreciate.

My name is Krysta. I am an avid reader and have way too many books on my TBR to read. I am a librarian, so I read a lot and everyone always gives me tons of books to read (colleagues, patrons, etc...). I am a new mom so reading has been going by the wayside but I am trying to pick it up more while my little one sleeps. I'm excited to be part of this group.

Got back to reading by joining my local library's reading challenge in 2016. They didn't start their 2017 challenge until July, but I am in on it! I recently started on the Bookopoly challenge so we'll see what happens!!

my name is András, I am a 36-year old teacher from Hungary. As a child, I used to read a lot but in the last couple of years, actually since my daughter was born five years ago, I haven't read much. Now I am back on track and I'd like to read as much as I can.
The games bookopoly and wheel-of-bookshelves are just brilliant. I wonder if I can join any of them now, at the end of February. I will definitely take part in the Pick-a-Shelf challenge.

I will read anything provided it's in English because I love this language and would like to improve my language skills.
