Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Hi! I'm Stacie, I live in Maryland in the US. I have several friends here and I always see their posts come up on my main page for such interesting challenges that I came to see myself. Poking around but I'm excited for the new periods to start for Scattershelves and Bookopoly!

Yay! Welcome, Stacie! Not long for the new edition of Bookopoly but we will not be playing Scattershelves next year. There is something exciting in the works though ;)

Click 'edit' on your review of the book and look below the review box, you'll see 'Dates Read', there is a box underneath 'Add read date' - that's how :)

Karin Hi, Stacie--welcome!

message 1007: by Ghost in the Stacks (new)

Ghost in the Stacks Hey fellow readers!

I have been here a bit, but havent really "jumped in" I have joined way to many challenges, and waiting to get some knocked off before I join some more.

I have been reading since I can remeber, got made fun of alot as a child for wanting to spend my time with my nose in a book.

I currently live in the DFW area, and am actively looking for members to my face to face book group.

I have one daughter who is 15, and I have molded her into a mini-me. I have a Beagle to loves to lick book pages, and a German Shepard who loves to eat them.

I am a pretty active person, I love to hike, bike, and I am currently on a Volleyball league. I love to be outdoors!

message 1008: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments Hi Abbie *waves* I know the feeling...I signed up for too many challenges as well! It is all so tempting lol Maybe next year you can join some of the challenges here, because they are a lot of fun :)

Good luck finding members for your face to face book group!

Beagles are cute! I love their bark. I used to take care of a beagle when the owners were on vacation. She was so smart and good at finding things.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 1284 comments Hi Abbie, I am a bookworm too. I love dogs. Beagles are one of my favorite breeds. I have been a part of book clubs. My last few book clubs fell apart. There weren't enough participants.

message 1010: by Laure (new)

Laure (goodreadscomlaure) Hi! I am Laure. I have recently fallen in love with book challenges, and I've added myself to many (too many?) GR groups! :P
GR is my go to social network. I love reading and talking about books. I read a lot of fantasy (including so called YA fantasy) and sci-fi, but I am also quite partial to romance and detective stories. I also love a challenge and read the classics (or future classics) regularly.

message 1011: by Karin (new)

Karin Welcome, Laure!

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 1284 comments Hi Laure, I like fantasy as well. I also like to read alot of cozy mysteries.

Hi Manda! Welcome to the group!

Woah, that is a lot of hours for listening ;)
We hope we can help you tackle that TBR though it's more probable that we'll also add more than you tackled lol

message 1015: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (kristenia) Hi everyone! This group was recommended in one of my other groups so I thought I would check it out.

My name is Kristen. I'm in my late 30s, have a husband, two sons (ages 7.5 and 4), and two dogs. I thought having children would slow my reading down, but I seem to read more now than ever. Weird, I know. I also commute about two hours (round trip) each day so audiobooks save me from boredom. The discovery of audiobooks could actually account for the increase in number of books read.

I still prefer actual books to audio or ebooks, and often feel I'm missing out on something without a book in hand. However, the convenience of audio and ebooks do make them hard to pass up.

Thanks for having this group...looking forward to diving in!

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9035 comments Mod
oh wow, which group was that Kristen? And is the recommender here? Whoever you are, thank you :)

Welcome, Kristen! I'm also in my late 30's & with 2 boys (8 & 3) and also have approx 2 hours commute though I commute on train so I do get to read physical books ;)

Christina (AKA Babbling) (babblingbookreviews) | 148 comments My name is Christina. Looking forward to playing bookopoly. It will be a different experience for me since I've never done a "pick it for me" challenge before.

message 1018: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments Welcome to the group Christina! Bookopoly is such a fun game! I love the pick it for me challenges. It helps you to read your books in a random order.

message 1019: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) | 1513 comments Welcome, Christina! I agree with Lusie. I should add that sometimes the other members get to pick books for me which they loved themselves, so that's a good way to pick the next book to read.

message 1020: by Lyn (new)

Lyn XD (8billionpeoplexd) | 4 comments Hi Everyone! :) I'm new to this group and not just to this group but to Goodreads in general. I just signed up last Nov. 30. And I have reviewed two books so far. With not much else to do I figured joining a group would be nice. Then, I found Pick-a-Shelf. :D

I thought that it's an interesting name and would definitely want to know more interesting books to read.

You can call me Lyn, by the way, but I go by 8billionpeopleXD here. I hope I get to meet awesome people here. :)

Thank you for having the group everyone!

message 1022: by Jen (new)

Jen (jayebee) | 31 comments Hi all! I'm Jen. I love to read, and these challenges look like fun. I wanted to try something new for 2018 to help myself to get re-interested & reengaged in reading, as 2017 was not great for me! I've had a difficult time mentally focusing & enjoying reading for most of this year.

& I definitely need some help with my huge TBR! :)

Jennifer | 2 comments My name if Jennifer. I'm addicted to reading, caffeine and chocolate and I make no apologies.
I'll read anything that grabs my attention. I prefer series- enough pages to create a world I want to join.
I love talking and debating (respectfully) about books.
Have a book you love or hate? I'm your new best friend.

message 1027: by Lisette (last edited Jan 09, 2018 08:14AM) (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments Hi Jennifer welcome to the group!

I think in this group we all are addicted to reading ;)
I like to read different genres. Though I do have my favourites: fantasy, YA, YA fantasy, Thrillers.

I know what you mean with preferring series. I love it when a series has got many books because then you usually get a more detailed story. That's also the reason why I love big fat books. The series I'm currently reading is the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas. I'm loving it :) Next I'm going to read book 4.

Since you love talking about book I think you mind want to join our current discussion about which book read in 2017 you loved or hated most

message 1029: by Shannon SA (new)

Shannon SA (shannonsa) Hello, I'm Shannon from South Africa.
My favourite genres are HF, especially WWI and WWII, and contemporary fiction, especially when it's something "different".
One of my aims is to read more classics this year, and I'm going to join in on the monthly reads to get more variety in the genres I read.
Due to budgetary constraints, I've put a moratorium on buying new books this year (although books from the library are allowed :) ) which should help to shorten my TBR pile!
Happy reading in 2018 everyone :)

message 1031: by Lou (new)

Lou (aliceinbagend) Hello! My name's LydiaMae. I live in England and so far wondering what to do with my life--besides reading books ;)
My favourite book genres at the moment are fantasy, classics, romance, science fiction, historical fiction, mystery--oh I'll just read everything!
Besides reading, I love science, Lotr, baking, and watching movies(and trying not to get upset when a movie turns out to be nothing like the book it was based off!)
Good luck on the 2018 reading challenge!!

message 1032: by Manuella (new)

Manuella | 3 comments Hey guys! I am Manuella and I am living in the Netherlands. Just found out how much I love reading, had no idea that books are that amazing :) I am also a big pet lover! I almost finished my third book for this month and can’t wait for all the books to come. Hey Tien, thanks for asking. I loved suspense, fantasy and romance. It's hard to pick a favourite. The first one that I really loved was The Secret Garden (maybe still).

message 1040: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Quick | 1 comments Hey thanks in advance if anyone follows through with an honest review for my book. Its already free on Kindle Unlimited which I figure many of you avid readers already have... Here's a link for it or you can view it through my profile.

https://www.amazon.com/Planetfall-Ori...

It's an adventure sci-fi titled Planetfall Origins. It chronicles the life of soldiers in the distant future. (I was a modern-day soldier and this book helped me to work through a lot of my trauma.) The novel deals heavily with authority, wades through issues regarding loyalty, and dabbles in dystopia.

If you liked Battlestar Gallactica, Starship Troopers, or Firefly, you will likely have an affinity for this work as well. I am 5,000 words into the sequel so if you like series, then I've got you covered. Thanks.

Robin A Hello
My name is Robin I have been a Goodreads member for awhile but was with a different group. I loved the fact they helped expand my reading and added numerous books to my TBR. However I left as I was no longer liking their style and comments. I like the sound of this group and hope it is a better fit.

I'm studying history of art; specially Orientalism, Art Nouveau and generally art and architecture at the end of the second millennium. If anyone is interested in these fields, I've just published an article (you can find it in my profile) related to my studies. Please let me know how you like it and if someone knows more works related to the topic of my writing please introduce them to me,I would appreciate it a lot!

Wow! We continue to grow!

Welcome, Robin. Our group's goal is to decrease that TBR and explore different shelves. However, be prepared to watch that TBR bounce up and down!

Welcome, Paria. Hmmm...history of art. Not something I know a lot about I'm afraid. However, I do hope you find some challenges here that will expand your reading genres.

Wulfan Thompson (kryptykwarlock) | 1 comments Hi! The name is Anthony! I live somewhere in Pinal County AZ. I'm always looking for a good read and open to any genre. I mainly read horror novels. This group sounds like a good fit for me. I'm always reading and when I'm not I got an audiobook close by.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 1284 comments welcome Tiffany

message 1050: by CluckingBell (new)

CluckingBell | 327 comments Welcome, Anthony and Tiffany! I just joined in September and have really enjoyed it here. They have a lot of non-competitive challenges to help you tackle Mount TBR, and it doesn't greatly matter how much or what you read, for the most part the challenges scale to your interests amd capacity.

Tiffany, have you tried listening to nonfiction as mp3 audiobooks? I find it easier to approach nonfiction as an interesting radio program or podcast I listen to while doing other things, plus you can speed them up if the reader speaks too slowly, which also reduces the time investment. As long as it isn't a subject that requires a lot of visual aids, it's a great way to tear through nonfiction.
