Kayla--Both of those classes sound fantastic! I wish I was able to take more lit classes when I was still in school. I did get to take an Issues in Contemporary Lit class which was interesting.

Samantha--I never had to read The Great Gatsby at all in high school but I read it this past year for the first time and LOVED it and was sooo thankful I didn't read it back then!

Jessie (Jessie08) | 128 comments I'm in an African fiction class this semester with some awesome books. So far we've read Ways of Dying: A Novel, The Translator, and The Pickup. Right now we're working on Things Fall Apart. And coming up we're reading Half of a Yellow Sun which is one of my favorite books. I'm loving this class and all the readings we've had. And I would highly recomend The Translator which I hadn't heard of before this class. It gives, I thought, sort of a unique view of Islam and the prose is some of the best I've ever read.

Kayla | 604 comments One of the things I love about college is the variety of literature classes offered. Though I enjoyed the required reading in high school, all of the books we were assigned were classics and I really wished we could have read contemporary literature for English once in a while. Now I finally get to!

Kelsey I'm in a postcolonial lit class right now, and of the books we've read so far, I have really enjoyed Life of Pi and The God of Small Things.

Knarik I loved Gogol's "Dead Souls", read it for my English class.

Spencer (spencerafreeman) I've already mentioned Things Fall Apart & The Things They Carried (both favorites of mine), but I completely forgot about Mythology by Edith Hamilton. I usually don't read short stories, but I thought this series of stories was so interesting and imaginative -- I've recently considered buying the book for my collection to have it on hand if I ever want to reread a few stories here and there (and I'm sure I will!).
