Keith Kelly (nedkelly) So I know a few of you were following the series. What did you all think of it now that it's over? Looking forward to season 2? Will it convince you to read the books?

Mae (goodreadscommae) | 217 comments Just started following the series online. Love it. dont think I will read the books, because I know I will like it better in writing, and I need to relax my eyes every now and then.

Keith Kelly (nedkelly) You might change your mind when you get to the end of season 1 Mae! You'll want to find out what happens.

message 4: by Mae (new)

Mae (goodreadscommae) | 217 comments Keith you are soo right. I just bought the first book. I am so hooked it is scary. In my house we talk about the characters as if we really knew them. We are spacing them, because we don't want to finish. My daughter wants to be the Calisi (however you spell it), queen of the horse riders and a dragon rider!!!! Mind you she is almost 17, but is a passionate horsewoman, and has loved dragons her entire life.

Katie Mcsweeney (applekoko19) | 15 comments Eeekk! I cannot wait for season 2!!Will it be a long wait??I was so surprised my the end of the second last episode...I really did not see it coming! It is truly addictive TV!
I did start reading the first book on Kindle but I found it hard to get into and stopped after the first few pages, should I persevere??

Keith Kelly (nedkelly) Katie....they're starting filming in July. So it's probably a year away. I know what you're saying about the second last episode and that's what's so great about these books...anything can happen, and that creates a very real sense of danger.

Mae....you'll grow to know the characters even more as the books progress. At this stage, I almost feel like they're family. I know that sounds ridiculous but it's true. I agreewith you mae, danys story is one of my favourite things in the book. For me though Tyrion has to be the most interesting character in the series.

For anyone that enjoys Audiobooks, Roy Dotrice does a fantastic job of this series. He is by far the best narrator I've ever listened to. Reliquary checking out.

This series has me giddy like a schoolgirlI hate to be so agreeable.. but yes the character of Tyrion is just brilliant and the acting of course is surprising for a TV series. They are probably going to regret not having done a movie. This is a major blockbuster. Anything that is liked by the four members of my house, is definitively brilliant.

Mae (goodreadscommae) | 217 comments I forgot to say, that the actor playing Tyrion , is making the dwarf look ten feet tall. It is amongst the most fascinating characters I have ever seen.

message 9: by Katie (new)

Katie McDermott | 7 comments I agree that Tyrion was the most compelling character in the show. Him combined with the fact that pretty much anything can happen (I defnitely didn't see the second last episode coming) is what made me buy the book, hopefully it will be as good as I'm expecting it to be

Mae (goodreadscommae) | 217 comments My daughter got to it first... so it will be a week before I can start the book. She says it is fantastic, but sometimes his style is rather simplistic, too much so sometimes. But she is 16 and argues everything... don't know where she gets it. :)
And I didn't see that second to last one coming either, still can't believe it. I still hope he will somehow come back....

message 11: by Katie (new)

Katie McDermott | 7 comments Well it wouldn't be the first instance like that in the show but I'm not holding my breath for him to reappear. By the way, I don't have a kindle (yet) but I saw that Amazon.com have the first 4 books for kindle for only $20. Better than the €11 each my local easons is charging

Mae (goodreadscommae) | 217 comments My husband is in the US this week... I hope he can get them cheaper there.

I've only seen the previews of this show but reading all the comentaries above makes me feel I should rent the DVDs. To be honest I wasn't interested in seeing it because when he goes medieval Sean Bean always makes me think of Boromir and the other guy (I can't remember his name) who tries to enlist his help, I always recall from The Full Monty, and subsequently I always hear Diana Ross (Hot Stuff) music in the back of my mind when I see him.

message 14: by Katie (new)

Katie McDermott | 7 comments Yeah, I found it very hard to get Boromir out of my head too when watching him, especially because the costuming is so similar, but the acting is good and he's playing a very different character - You stop thinking about it after awhile

You sold me Katie. I'm going to pick them up when they come out on DVD.

Mae (goodreadscommae) | 217 comments Ohhh you are going to have fun. I still have to watch the last one. Waiting for my husband to get home so we can all watch it together. It has become a family thing. Now we have started reading the books.

Katrina (theblack) | 5 comments I watched first season of Game of Thrones online and was so hooked I went out and bought the books. The main reason I started watching it was for sean bean as I think he's Hot! Hot! Hot! Just thought I'd share that. I got boxset of books in Easons- all 5 and companion guide for €39 which wsn't too bad. I'm hooked and love the characters- especially Daenarys, Tyrion and I love little Arya.

Thanks for the tip. Sounds really good and there is very little on TV that is interesting. At least it leaves a lot of time for reading.I think it may be on HBO in the States but I will have to dig around a little. I may end up having to buy as well.

message 19: by aprilla (new)

aprilla OK, need advice. I'm 1/2 way through book 1 and it really isn't doing anything for me... several times up to now I've considered just leaving it but kept going hoping I'd get into it. If I'm not 'gripped' by now do you think I should just give it up (maybe to try again, maybe not)?

Appreciate your opinions, ta :)

message 20: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Healy (majessticon) I'm two books into the series, but I haven't been able to see the TV show yet, I'll have to get them on DVD,perhaps.

Aprilla, I took a while to settle into the first one, too... I didn't hate it, I just wasn't particularly hooked until quite close to the end, but I found myself enjoying the second one much more, so maybe it's worth persevering. In the first book it was Daenerys' storyline that really got me, then in the second I was following Tyrion and Arya the most.

message 21: by aprilla (new)

aprilla Thanks Jessica, so there's light at the end of the tunnel!!

message 22: by Jess (new)

Jess How did I miss a Games of Thrones thread????? I recommend the books to everyone I have so enjoyed all of them especially the first 3! I think HBO's doing a brilliant job of it.
