I have read The Hunger Games, Incrceron, Wildthorn, Twilight, Divergent, and many more YA books. Percy Jackson is still my favorite series.

Young Adult is actually the teen category. Percy Jackson is considered early young adult/children's. And btw you can still enjoy these books with experience. I'm 18 and a freshman English major and I'm still reading them! Though of course I'm waiting to read The Son of Neptune.

i know...i missed him...

message 364: by Bri (new) - rated it 4 stars

Bri The first book isn't really the best representative of this series. It really gets the ball rolling at the third book, and by the Lost Hero the plot becomes more complex because it's meant for older readers.

message 365: by [deleted user] (new)

i read the whole series and i loved it....you can't expect to find much realistic elements in a fantasy book...the book was an awesome piece of imagination, creativity and fantasy...

Hannah AR wrote: "simple. four words: willing suspension of disbelief."

I love that quote and agree with it completely. A teacher of mine once told us that quote.
It's your opinion though. Everyone has a different opinion, so you can't exactly ask why people like it. You don't like it, but that doesn't mean someone else can't There isn't necessarily a reason why someone likes it or not. I loved the series... I don't have a reason for it.

Just because it's a myth doesn't mean you can't believe. I don't believe in this in reality, but when I read my imagination takes over and I believe every word I read...

message 370: by [deleted user] (new)

I absolutely LOVE these books.
My teacher first introduced me to them when I was in the eighth grade and I could kiss him for it. If he wasn't so creepy that is.
Beside Harry Potter, Percy Jackson is one of my favorite characters in fantasy books.
It took me two and a half days to read all five.
I've read these books countless times and I will continue to read them over again.

Jonathan Peto I read the first one and enjoyed it. While reading it, I thought it needed more depth but decided that must be what makes it YA.

I may read more someday.

I guess there's a lot in it to hook those prone to obsession: mythology, gods, magic, action, snappy dialogue, interesting use of the familiar, fun characters...

haha

Christine I feel like the entire story is well-constructed.

message 381: by Dylan (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dylan I only was able to read the first book, but it interest me because it is different outtake. It was not loaded with long paragraph and keep in in one spot for a long time. It is not silly like the movie, I could read it in a day, but still want more.

The truth is that it is a kid book, so you might not enjoy it. There books that have better and believable plot, but I like a lot of books label as kid books because I don't have to think much about reading it. I could just imagine it with ease. also your brother interest reflect more on these kinds of stories.

Amel my friend loves them and i dont want her to be mad at me

message 393: by Joanne (new) - rated it 3 stars

Joanne I think it has to do with age range. My nephew loves this series and all of Riordan's books. He just turned 11 so I think he read the series when he was 9/10 which is the age this series is recommended for - ages 9 - 12. If you are older, read more mature things, it is possible that you may not like it. He loved them so much, he had his mother read them and then he gave them to me. They are fine reads for a kid. If you're looking for a young adult series, this is not it. It is a KIDS series.

Wow.

Christine I love young adult series, but yet I love this. It does have some aspects that would appeal to young adult lovers.

Andrez I loved them and I'm 15.

However, I do have a soft spot for Middle Grade books so...
