message 105: by Amanda (new) - rated it 4 stars

Amanda Cobb I am in my late 20's and still enjoyed these books. I like the use of mythology and enjoyed the characters. When I was your age I read books that were written for adults and really enjoyed those, but now as I am older I really like seeing what is out there for all age groups.

Michele I loved these books. I've read them several times. They are extremely popular with my 4th and 5th grade students (I'm a school librarian). They are not going to win prizes as mind-blowing, society-altering art. But, in one word, they are FUN. They are an adventure quest with a bit of depth--learning the importance of the journey, digging deeper, teamwork, etc.--but primarily they are on the light side. It is fun to believe that the world might be more than it appears. It is fun to believe that your disabilities are really your strengths. It is fun to believe that what is predicted as the ultimate doom turns out to be the ultimate answer. And, Percy is a pretty well-developed character: we know what his is thinking and feeling all the way through it. He is very honest with the us. :)

Anna Lee Wow. I don't think anyone really hates this book. I'm suprised, usually when a book is so popular there are so many haters too.
I don't hate it- i just find it slightly annoying.

Sᴀᴅɪʏᴀ lol y is it annoying 2 u again?

y do u tink its stupid? (i'm trying to understand ur POV so i need a lil more information besides its just stupid)

message 122: by Juliet (new) - rated it 5 stars

Juliet same

Anna Lee I believed it was childish and slow. The "romance" (if that's what you want to call it) made me gag. In my opinion, the book's whole mytholicical idea was executed toward a young age- and I felt it was truly a book for a younger crowd. I guess that's why I didn't like it.

message 124: by maddie (new) - rated it 3 stars

maddie you know, i dont even remember postig this

maddie wrote: "mostly agree with Amel and Anna Lee"

lol im nuts!! :)

Michele Don't know how old you are...but is definitely a kids' book. It has won an award aimed at 4th - 8th graders. The movie made it seem liked the kids were older, but Percy is only in 7th grade in the first book.

message 126: by maddie (new) - rated it 3 stars

maddie truthfully i am only 11 and sice its summer, im declared 7th grder, im not saying the book was that good. as you can see i only rated it 3 stars. i wont continue to read the rest of the series...it just kinda dragged on throughout the book..... :I

message 147: by C (new) - rated it 5 stars

C I understand where you're coming from, and I can't say that I'd disagree with the fact that perhaps these books aren't meant for your audience, but at the same time I thought they were witty, well written and they certainly appealed to me when I was in that age group, and they still do even now, so I know I can't change your personal opinion but next time you might want to try reading a book that's geared towards you instead of one meant for younger children.

Anna Lee That's what I usually read....

message 149: by Lucy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lucy Lane I think that these are the kind of books that you read and never out grow because they are clean for younger readers but action packed and well written for teens how could you not love them

message 150: by Juliet (new) - rated it 5 stars

Juliet @Lucy agreed
