"It is the recognition that well-read is not a destination; there is nowhere to get to, and if you assume there is somewhere to get to, you'd have to live a thousand years to even think about getting there, and by the time you got there, there would be a thousand years to catch up on."

We all know there is a nearly infinite amount of things we will never be able to cram into our overstuffed lives, no matter how hard we try, but actually seeing it in perspective makes me feel surprisingly less overwhelmed.

Pat (patb37) I surrender.

This issue of the enormous unknowable is why I roll my eyes at "best of" lists or worse yet "best of all time" or "best ever" declarations.

Carol | 1678 comments I just read this article and thought of TC! I choose, I prioritize, I'm waiting for Big Brother on CBS. So there!

Helena | 1056 comments Great article! I feel a bit better about my TBR too... I don’t feel quite as bad about discounting entire genres or certain authors now. I don’t have time to read things that I’m fairly certain aren’t my cup of tea.

~Geektastic~ (atroskity) | 3205 comments I've been spreading myself extra thin lately, and I found this article at the perfect time to encourage me to do something I should have done a while ago. Rather than rushing forward with my TBR and TBW (to be watched), I'm going to finish my current book and take a week off from reading, get some other things out of the way, and prioritize without stressing about meeting goals. I've been putting off some re-reads because of my 2011 goals, and I think I'm just going to chuck them out the window (metaphorically-that would be littering) and enjoy whatever I feel like.
