I ordered a bunch of older Baloghs from Alibris. One was the short story Precious Rogue, which I liked--it surprised me since I don't usually like shorts. I have gotten about half way through The Lady with the Black Umbrella--very light and fluffy but fun--and will read Christmas Beau next, which seems a little darker. I also have A Counterfeit Betrothal...
I liked the Christmas Beau--although it was darker than I first expected. I will go back to the Lady with the Black Umbrella, although it was hard to believce that the hero was attracted to the heroine who was more than just bossy--she was pretty oblivious to other people's feelings.I'm halfway through A counterfeit betrothal, which is really classic Balogh. I can imagine her editor, though, saying "We can't advertise this as being about a middle aged couple with a grown child who have been separated for 14 years! We will have to blurb about the daughter!" when in fact the heart of the book is about the older couple.
