Congratulatons. For all of us, what did the clause in your contact say that allowed you to do that? Was there a separate clause governing EBooks?
Interesting question. The contracts for these seven books ranged from 1990, when ebooks weren't even a concept, to 2007, when the contractual language about ebooks was slim. So when the rights reverted to me, they reverted completely. Now, my new contracts contain dense language about electronic rights, and agents and publishers are really duking it out. They want to keep your book 'in print' as long as they're selling a few copies of ebooks. It's a bum deal for authors!
Can you not specify a minimum amount of ebook earnings each year to qualify as being in print? This seems reasonable...
I think they want to say that if they've sold 250 ebooks, it counts as being in print, and then they want to hold onto all your rights. Not good.

Five Days in Summer
FIVE DAYS IN SUMMER was first published in 2004. Lisa Gardner called it "Mesmerizing." It was a USA Today bestseller. And then...it went out of print.
Well, I just put my entire backlist out as ebooks for the first time, which is a very exciting feat for an author. You'll find all my bestselling thrillers (yes, even bestsellers sometimes go out of print) available here: http://www.amazon.com/Katia-Lief/e/B0...
