Oh wow, someone needs to remind HER it's just a book. How is wishing miscarriage on someone who disliked the book not worse than someone who wrote a satire about it??? I am shocked.
Oh. My. God. MISCARRIAGE!? Someone is very sick and bitchy! Good god! Of course you know I know I'm not going to have an effect on Meyer! I'm just giving my opinion!
Oh. my. god.I haven't seen this website; is it attacking Meyer personally? If not, NONE of this response is justified!
If the site does attack Meyer, this woman has the right to defend her, but hoping for someone to miscarry is appalling. I can't imagine Meyer would want people saying things like that in her defense.
I agree. That is the most vile thing I've seen involving the craziness over these books, ever. Even if they were attacking personally Stephenie Meyer(which is ridiculous, too), that person has no right to wish such malicious things on a mother-to-be. >_> Disgusting.
Oh yeah, and does anyone else see some contradiction here:Oh, and Liz, you are one of the worst. Creating the website... whatever. You don't deserve those precious babies you're carrying. They deserve a much better mother than you. For their sakes, I hope you miscarry
Your babies are precious! They are deserving! I hope they die!
I am actually really hoping this person just somehow doesn't understand what "miscarry" means.
Helkat14,EXACTLY. I wish I could tell you that they don't know what a miscarriage is. What's worse is who this person is believed to be. Can't share details yet, but will if I am able.
The website she's speaking of is: www.freewebs.com/thedarksidecometh
It isn't an anti-Meyer site. It's a site for people who hated BD to gather and talk since we got kicked off of all the major fan forums.
The person who received the e-mail is SUPER nice. She's got a blog on the webside "Liz's Blog". She's really nice.
Of course, this person has the right to defend Stephenie against a personal attack if there is one. But NO ONE has the right to wish death upon someone or their families over a BOOK or an obsession with an author of a book.
Of COURSE! And that person was stupid enough to say miscarry, tsk tsk. Can't you get someone to kick her off the site?
Emma,It's a long story.
It was an e-mail, not a post so there's really no one to kick off. It came from some random e-mail account. *shrugs*
Ahhh.....still. Is there no justice?? Yikes. People like this, who do not appreciate, or even stand other people's opinions, and attack them personally, are really low. Why was she even READING it if she's so hardcore?
Hahaha, wow. XD Well said, except for the last part of course...life shouldn't be disregarded so easily, even if the mother is doing questionable things.
Really, Nolan? You'd rather be dead than to have a mom who felt strongly that she disliked a book? And nobody's "stalking" anybody. It's a website. There are websites both in support of and in opposition to millions of public figures. It's unfortunate that criticism gets so harsh, but it's part of being in the spotlight. I have now seen the website in question here, and honestly, it doesn't look that bad to me. I think the proprietor(s) are a little more worked up about this book than is necessary, but it doesn't appear to be anything personal against Meyer.
Personally, I thought things were much better when everyone was talking about just the books (if such a time existed). All this business about defending and attacking the author is ridiculous. Unfortunately, this seems to be what we do now - get "involved" in the personal lives of celebrities.
Regardless of how you feel about anything else, I think the majority of us can definitely agree that wishing a tragedy on someone else is no way to handle it.
Nolan, that is probably the most ridiculous and idiotic thing you can possibly say. You don't KNOW this woman, how do you know she is horrible? Hating someone because a book seems pretty silly, don't you think? She's not a stalker, and though I do agree with you that no one should ATTACK Meyer, we're simply stating our opinion here and just because we hate Breaking Dawn doesn't mean we hate Meyer. Look, you don't have to read what we think alright? I don't read negative reviews of MY favorite books. No matter how diehard I am. It's great that you like the book, but I don't, and no one has ANY right to attack their children. Period.
Nolan--you tell us... you're the one who is posting here.Actually--I think you sound like a whiner.
This is a site dedicated to people that like (and sometimes dislike) books. This is a "safe place" to whine and you just don't have to read the posts.
(ugh)
Just forget it okay? I agree with Autumn. And, if this thread is so pointless, why are you even here?
For anyone else who watches the Amazon boards -- did any of you hear about the people who got banned? I'm a lurker; I don't have an Amazon account so I can't post. But my friend does, although she has only participated in one or two discussions. Anyway, I am a closet Dark Sider, and I respect many of the people who post for it, both on the Amazon boards and the DS website. Most of them have intelligent, well thought-out and repestful posts. I have seen some harsh posts, and I don't condone THOSE.Some words were written; arguemetns started; personal attacks were made; some people got mad. The end result was the banning of Ashely Galow, Agrippa, and Charie.
I was not present when the arguemtents transpired, so I cannot say who started what, and who baited who.
I guess the whole point of this post was to say I completely agree with Shannon -- things have gotten way out of hand. The Amazon boards used to be a place where Dark Siders, Light Siders, and anyone in between could talk about ANYTHING -- not just the book. After the bannings, though, many people have left. It's just sad, because I spent hours just reading those discussions and laughing ;)
Nolan - I think it is okay if reading a book raises other issues for us that aren't directly contained between the covers. I think it is okay if, in the natural thread of conversation, we then talk about those issues. I also think a discussion about people's REACTION to a book counts as a discussion of that book.
Nolan,Yeah, what Helkat said. Obviously, this discussion pertains to the book as it flows from the reaction to the book.
No book = No reaction = No discussion
So, in a word, YES they are related.
Things are crazy on Amazon. Threads are being deleted, people are getting suspended, and there has been just general mayhem. I think, though, that things are approaching normalcy. Such as it was.
They used to intimidate me too, Panda, until I started posting. I've actually made a couple of intelligent acquaintances from the boards there. However, it does tend to attract posters from ALL walks, and it does not always stay mature and civil.
oh my GOD!! wishing someone to miscarry is an AWFUL, evil thing to say , just because of a stupid thing as not liking a fictional book. i think people who are obsessed with BD should try to defend the book in a more respectful way. although i'd say i tend to be with the so-called "dark siders", i would not justify their acts if they really did attack the author. SM wrote the books as means to entertain herself and her audience, and it would not be fair to attack her as thus. i think if anyone has objections about the book, they should say so, and not attack the author instead. everybody has their own opinion, and if they would like to share it, i think it would be best shared without insults directed to anyone, so that people could have interesting discussions. as everybody knows, a discussion can't start without two sides: lover/ haters

post a new topic

I just wanted to post this little message to illustrate the extremes some people are going to over this book.
As many of you know, I post on the Amazon boards as well and identify with the group that dislikes Breaking Dawn, collectively known as "The Dark Side". (It's a LONG story, don't ask.) Anyhow, another member of our little community started an anti-Breaking Dawn website some time ago and obviously, has received some hate mail from zealous fans and the like. No big deal, really, comes with the territory.
HOWEVER....
Yesterday, she received this letter from a young woman who calls herself "Lilith":
"I've been lurking on Amazon for quite some time and been wanting to say this. I can't post on Amazon, although I'm sure you'll do this for me. Stephanie Meyer is a goddess. Putting up with the bull5hit that you and your Dark Siders constantly throw at her is so insane. Calling her out on Ellen? Really? How stupid and childish. Creating a website against her? Your 'precious' satire? Laughable. You Dark Siders are a sore on the literary world.
Faust, Agrippa, Obsidian, Charie, and Shantilly all think you can do no wrong. No one is better than you. Making your videos and writing your 'stories'. Please. If you think for one minute you have any effect on Stephanie, then you really have been living in a dream world. Get over yourselves. I will say it. It is just fiction. It is just a book. Love it or hate it - IT IS A BOOK.
Oh, and Liz, you are one of the worst. Creating the website... whatever. You don't deserve those precious babies you're carrying. They deserve a much better mother than you. For their sakes, I hope you miscarry."
I honestly have no words for this.
So, I just wanted to remind everyone that while "it's just a book" and "it's fiction" are not valid arguments for the quality of the writing in Breaking Dawn, they are COMPLETELY VALID arguments for keeping reality and fantasy in perspective. No one should wish death on another's children because of a work of art.
Just a thought.......
