Hi can anyone tell me why spoiler alerts are not working when i send a message. If i put same thing in a comment the view spoiler comes up but not when i send it in a message - what am i doing wrong

Are you on the app or the full site?
Not a how do I do x but just wondering about notifications. For some reason I'm getting loads of notifications on people commenting on posts in multiple groups and I've not changed my settings. Just checked again and they are as I want them but shame gr isn't paying attention to this. Any ideas?
Notifications seems to be one of Goodread's main headaches. Maybe check over in Goodreads Feedback group. There always seems to be threads addressing notification problems.
I see the same things, Sarah. Seems like things change after a few days - or not. I decided not to get crazy about it.

I never had problems with the notifications, but I have problems with the updates form time to time when using the app.
I'm sure it's me, but I'm looking for the thread where you can give suggestions for challenges and topplers, but I can't find it anywhere...

Hallo everybody!I have been unable to instal the Goodreads app for smartphones in my Samsung Note.
I had a previous version from the app, but the actualization -insistently required from the app itself- didn't . I had to uninstall the app (it was VERY insistent) and wanted to reinstall it again, but to no avail.
I can download the program, but it won't let me install it.
Anybody has ideas about why that may happen?
(Sorry I was silent a while, but I was aboard and without internet)
Welcome back, Mariab!Have you tried turning your phone all the way off/powering off? I've had issues with other apps and when I turn my phone (I have an iPhone) all the way off, the app tends to work after that :)
I have not, however, had an issue with re-installing an app :(

Ugh. I've given up on getting Goodreads on my android phone. Mostly don't need it any way.No idea why I can't get it. Mostly irrelevant with my access to my pc and tablet.
But sometimes it would be nice to have. Oh well.
I got it on my Galaxy 5 the other day no worries after my 3 blew up. Can't help, but just saying I had no issue.
Which makes me feel like I'm rubbing it in your face, which I'm not. Just letting you know it worked for me on another samsung the other day.

No, it won't. There will be a new year long challenge. I'll be posting it shortly, so be on the watch for it.

It's funny how some of these challenges become perpetual challenges. Please do continue. Set up threads in the YLTO Member Zone and track your progress there.
I'll continue for sure since I'm into more series now than at the beginning of the year. Serial killers are not recoverable, anyway. :)

You're going to need to move this discussion to a more appropriate thread. This thread is to ask questions about hoe to navigate Goodreads and do the various things on Goodreads. I'm thinking that YLTO member's section would be a good place to continue this discussion. Someone can set up a general thread and then you can all set up your own tracking threads.

How do I set up my thread/page/I-don't-know-what-to-call-it to participate in the 2016 year long challenge? I think a very kind mod did it for me for 2015 because I can't remember doing it myself.

In the top right hand corner, just above where it says 'last activity', you should see 'new topic'. Click on that and that will set up a new thread for you.

I know how to add a link to a book or an author when I write a post, but could someone tell me how to link an entire series like "Cotton Malone"? I noticed that some members did it (Debra for example) and I can't figure out how to do it.
Roz, as far as I know there is not a way to do that like with books and authors. What Debra probably did was using the html formating for make a link appear like a text. It appears in the "some html is ok" above the comment box, but just in case I'll try to explain it to you. Copy and paste this:<*a href="LINK">TEXT*<*/*a>
Delete all the stars (I put them there so you can see the code), and note there's an space after the first a. Swap the LINK for the link to the series page (Ex: https://www.goodreads.com/search?utf8...) and the TEXT for the words you want to appear (Ex: Cotton Malone Series). You'll get this:
