Goodreads 101 - How do I do [blank]

I'm having the same problem. I set up a shelf titled "ylto monthly challenge books" and when I hit save it says "user shelf not entered". Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

It shouldn't matter what the add date is because my understanding is that the challenges look at the date read.
You may need to pop over to the Goodreads feedback group and make a query there. I'm wondering if there is a glitch.

Did you enter the dashes between the words when you indicated which shelf the challenge was to reference?
You would need to type: ylto-monthly-challenge-books
EDIT: I just looked at your shelves and you have a shelf named ylto monthly challenge boo. You'll need to rename your shelf and then try again.

Lol! Well, that's what I get for working on this at 12:00 o'clock at night.
Thanks Janice, I'll give it a try.

It looks as though you have solved your shelving problem.
Just so you know, the "date added" should not matter. Many of us have entered books that were read waaaay before joining GoodReads. As Janice said, it is the "date read" that counts.

Having an ipad, i do this all the time. (And am I glad the "flag" item is not automatic). It usually take me a few tries but i always manage to delete the book and reenter it properly.

If you edit your review page of the book, there is a faint "clear" link right next to the stars. That should let you start over appropriately.

I don't think you can change a rating to zero once it's been rated. You can rate it up or down, but not remove the rating. Contacting Goodreads is likely the only way you can address that.
Why is the author chastising you for your error, and not accepting your explanation? That needs to be reported to Goodreads as well. This rating war is what caused all the recent commotion.

Oh, Almeta! I never noticed that. I wish I had known that. I didn't think of asking in this section until this morning. All of this happened yesterday during the Toppler and it was very disturbing. Next time I'll know what to do.

If that didn't work, maybe deleting the book from your list and starting over with that particular book would work? Regardless, the author needs to get over it. In your case the rating was a mistake; however, someone else might genuinely rate the book a 1. That's the reader's opinion and the author should not be unprofessional and angry over a reader's rating and hound the reader. Ratings are our prerogative. I'm with Janice - Goodreads should know about this. This author is making Goodreads look bad.

I agree with people saying report the author. Goodreads needs to be aware of this situation. They have put a lot of effort into looking after authors from being abused, but they need to do the same for readers having bad and aggressive reactions from authors. They say they are doing this, but if they don't know how prevalent it is, it's hard to react accordingly. The authors did this, which is why they got some action taken.

I have a question do, if a new challenge starts, how do I know this is happening? I always get emails about updates, but I really don't know what was the first threat for it... I'm very confused :/

You will find the challenges under the folder "Challenges". (To get there, click on the link titled "Discussion" at the top right hand side of any page in the group.) The current and new challenges are at the top of the list.
You will find the Year Long Challenge under it's own folder.
If you click on the link that reads "unread" (you will find it on the top right hand side under the box where you found the discussion link), all unread messages will display. Because you are new to the group, there will be a lot. I would read the most current messages and those you are interested in, then mark them all as read (link on bottom of page). Then next time you click the link there will only be current ones.
Best thing to do is spend some time exploring. Click all those links and see what they do and where they take you. :)

Thank you Rusalka, that's nice to know... I'll be in the look out.

When I switched editions I lost the updates as well. I switched back and the updates were there again. So maybe they are linked directly to the editions and not the overall book??

You might check for duplicates. It is likely that you have two separate editions on your shelves.
(When on "My Books" view, duplicates is close to the bottom of your left-side list of shelves.)

Hmm, I was sure that a duplicate had been created. Some of us use another edition when we re-read a book, so that the original read date stays intact and the newer re-read date can be counted, as well, in our stats.
And then of course there is the desire to actually review a separate edition, from the original read...perhaps because of a different translation, or with a certain illustrator, or to compare the abridged to the unabridged, etc.
If, however, you are not creating a duplicate, then I do think that your information should follow your "switched to" edition. This is probably an issue for the Feedback Group, to whom you can report a bug.

I've had this problem in the last few weeks too - I'd recommend bringing it up in the GR feedback group - I change editions more than I change my socks and it never used to be a problem.

I think so, Peggy. It happened to me on the last book I was trying to update my review for. I could not figure out how to get my status comments back. I am surprised the GR guys did not hear me complaining!
LOL, Kat. My respons is that I have now learned to make sure not to change the edition if I have started to make comments, or make sure the edition I am reading is the one I want before I move it to the currently reading catagory.

In any event does anybody know how to make a checkmark?
Thanks.

As we were talking about symbols, I thought i'd leave in the chicken's contributions from her standing on the number pad and pecking other symbol keys as I was typing.
If you're confused about the actual Character Map, it holds a copy of all the symbols your computer can create through those codes above (ASCII codes). As I can't remember them all, I tend to copy and paste the symbols out of the map.

I still can't find certain things in Windows 8. I was trying to find my list of programs. I had no idea. The chicken pulls it up all the time when she sleeps on my keyboard. I honestly had to put her on my keyboard, leave the room, and when I came back it was up. Her feet must be in the perfect place for the shortcut.

LOL I have to remember this one. I should put this in one of tech procedures' emails. "If you cannot find it, try putting a chicken on the keyboard first. Then , if that fails, call me." At least I would know if they actually really read the darn emails.

What was important for me was that I found it and that I can use it!
I would love to have a chicken to set on my keyboard, but Intel might be upset if I told them I had to have my laptop replaced because one of those dangerous little "love packages" they can leave behind.
A long time ago, I went to work one morning without checking the back of my shirt before leaving home. I was stopped in the hallway by a friend, who whispered in my ear about the large green stain deposited there by my baby parrot (he is 25 now). I drove back home to change my shirt. :)

HAHA! I do this to my PhD Students all the time. It's really worth it for the one person who comes back and goes "Umm...".

I had an old work mate with two cockatiels. He walked past my desk every morning on the way to his, and I frequently had to tell him that he had been "decorated". He kept a spare shirt in his desk at work for this reason.

Cherie, thank you I found it, and its easier than the one I figure it out last time... ♥

You could create a YLTO!-Challenge shelf and put your challenge books there.
What shelf did you use? Did you mark your book with the date read?
You need not apologize. These are valid questions. We are all a helpful bunch here!☺
