Me: I'll have to think about it for a bit. He'll probably be very protective over her and not really act if people try to hurt her, but he'd work on empty threats.
Me: Hmmm. Interesting. So he can talk the talk, but not walk the walk. What would happen if harm were to come to Mary?

Me: He'd probably go ballistic. While he himself was never a cannibal, he did murder his mother and cook her, and so he's fairly dangerous. Like I said, even though he doesn't get too angry, if someone were to harm Mary he would lose it. I don't know WHAT would happen.

Me: Sure! What do you want help with?
I'm at my grandparents, and I shouldn't be too long, and I'll probably work on Elin first since she's already been developed before. I need to go on a name hunt for this guy xD

Me: I don't know exactly what's wrong with her. Part of me wants to say trauma of some sort, part of me wants to make her condition something like OCD or autism. I've even experimented in my head with delusions or hallucinations (though that's the one which seems to fit least well.) I can't figure out the general gist of her personality until I know just what her deal is.
What about Cain? I like the name Cain.

Me: I think for this brotherly relationship that we're developing, trauma would work well. I know you're not that big on playing the victimized character, but we could work around that.
Hmm. I like Cain as well.
Hmm. I like Cain as well.
Me: Nah, it's not that I have a problem with--it's the fact that all of my characters besides Lenore (and Jacob, if you don't count his delusions) have a traumatic backstory. I'm worried I'm overusing it.

Me: Well, they often need them so that they have a reason for going insane. If you want to, you're fine.
Me: Yeah, I know. But still.
Second option would be the autism/OCD, but I feel that such would turn her into a more fragile character overall, which I don't want. With the trauma, Mary would display vulnerability only during specific circumstances; but then we run into the aforementioned problem.

Me: Well, I think we can definitely rule out delusions and hallucinations, since that's definitely overused. I think you should just go to trauma. It seems like that's what you want her to be like, anyways.
Me: Yeah, it seems like the option which works the best, considering what I want out of her character.
But I don't want it to involve her parents, since that is most certainly overdone. What should it be instead, think you?

Me: Mmm, perhaps instead of an abusive relationship to her, she saw a sibling or friend undergo an abusive relationship?
What do you think of the name Elijah?
What do you think of the name Elijah?
Me: Would not she herself have to be the subject of the trauma, though, since she's the one in the asylum?
Not bad. Perhaps he's Elijah Cain?

Yeah, I like that c: Now I need a middle name and a model.
Yeah, I like that c: Now I need a middle name and a model.
Me: No, given her ubringing, that doesn't make a lot of sense. Perhaps she was kidnapped?
Cain is his middle name, I thought.

Alright, then when I get home I shall begin Elin and Elijah c:

Me: Maybe ransom? The Thrashers are a very rich family. Something could have happened to her along the way that could have broken her.
Coolio.

Me: What is this traumatic event? I would quite prefer it not be rape because she's, you know, thirteen. Younger at the time, I'd imagine.
That's not the plan, no. I have a feeling Mary is going to turn out less of a Sue, just as Mabel was less of one to Felix.

Me: Maybe I do. But there are different degrees to which it can be crossed, and I'd like to go as low as possible.
*frowns* The problem is, though, if you're trying to ransom a captive you aren't going to hurt them in incredibly obvious fashions. It would have to be psychological or very subtly physical, wouldn't it?

Me: *sighs* Well, I'm leaning towards one of two things, then.
1. Mary tries to run and is caught and beaten, and no one is worried about the injuries because they already have their ransom and were going to send her back the next day as is.
2. There happens to be a sick young man in that group who gets his kicks out of terrifying the people (mostly children) they kidnap in the time it takes for whoever they were taken from to pay up, and he tells Mary so many twisted maybe-this-is-what-we'll-do-with-you stories she temporarily loses it.

Funny, I had envisioned Elijah to come from a rich family as well c: They'll get along just fine.

But you see, you said you wanted a gay relationship (Elin and Lenore), AND a straight one, and while Mary and Elijah will be a relationship, they won't exactly be anything other than brother-sister for NOW. Do we need a love-wise straight relationship? Or no?

Me: *puzzles over scar placement*
Nah, I think we're good. I'm not sure if Lenore knows exactly how to fall in love, though, which means maybe not. XD

Raven: Seriously.
