We watched it this evening. Great job, guys. Jen and I were cracking up. A lot of really creative and unexpected riffs. I think I'm going to get a lot of mileage out of this one showing it to friends. Totes worth the $3, yo.

Aww, thanks, man! We had a blast making it (that's why I am playing the part of a human hangover in the intro/outro). Thanks again!

I made a simple Wordpress blog so I'd have somewhere to put things I wrote, and then I wrote a thing to put somewhere on my simple Wordpress blog that I made to have somewhere to put my simple written things.
If you read "Safe," I'll like you a lot, and will love to hear anything you have to say about it.

Good story, Jason. I hope everyone reading this is well.
Cool, man, glad you've got a story blog going. Nice opener, good and atmospheric. Keep us posted.

Jeez, Jim, really sorry to hear that.

Which author was it who talked about laughing aloud whenever he encountered a truth he recognized in a novel? Not because it was funny, but because the familiarity of recognizing a truth you haven't heard expressed before naturally generates the response of joy, of laughter?
Anyway, though I can't remember who wrote that (Bukowski maybe?), the sentiment has stuck with me. And that happened to me last night while reading the first paragraph of Rebecca West's This Real Night.

Me, in the context of talking about reading Bukowski.

Raise yr hand if you want Jason to update his book status regularly so it doesn't show he's reading previous selections....wow, it's unanimous.
Staying up til 3 am watching Mulholland Dr = lots of falling asleep while reading today. Hope I can stay awake through tonight's UVA game.
Me again. While Dave was watching Mulholland Drive, I was writing this story. Feedback highly welcomed. For example: a better title.

Former Seattle barista here: I don't think anybody adds cream to a breve. It's a latte made w/ half-and-half instead of milk.
Other then that, I loved it. Really dug where it went.

FWIW, love my brévés, though.
Ever consider joining an online writers workshop, Jason? I've had some good experiences with places like Scribophile personally. That one's free, and you can get a lot of good, in-depth feedback from other writers (many of whom have been published) focusing on craft, structure, etc. Just thought that might be a good extra resource if you're looking for a little bit more robust feedback than the "cool, good stuff" comments your friends'll usually give you.
PS: Cool, good stuff.

My coffee ignorance is revealed! Thanks for the info, Matt. I googled things like "tiger eyes" while I was writing it, but never thought to check on the preferred way to drink caffe breves. All I know is that Heather liked them, and she liked cream in coffee.
Yes, Dave, I was poking around for a group today, actually. There's a surprising dearth of them on Facebook. I was going to ask you for the one you'd been using. I'll sign up there, see how it goes. Thanks!
PS: You don't have to limit yourself to "cool, good stuff."
And thanks to everyone for reading. I never take that for granted. It's been a good feeling to write some stories lately.

Good thing I'm not one of those highlighter people, or this entire book I'm reading by Rebecca West would be highlighted.
My other project, That's Cool, That's Trash's riff on Bloody Pit of Horror is currently the featured riff on RiffTrax. If you have already picked up a copy, thank you!, if you haven't please consider doing so.
If we get enough sales we might be invited to riff with the MST3K gods themselves. Thanks for allowing the shameless plug: http://www.rifftrax.com/iriffs/thats-...

My eyeballz just popped out of my head! Now I've put them back in upside down and in the wrong sockets. Oddly, this has corrected my vision.

I took that one. Answered quite a few "yes" but only got around 100 or so. There sure do want nerds to end friendships over various nerdly arguments. There are a ton of questions like that.

Sit down, Tiger. Mom & Dad need to have a little talk with you...
I would like to announce on behalf of Jason, Dave, and myself that we are retiring the podcast after our discussion of The Sound and the Fury at the end of the month. We have one mini episode in the can that will be published this week and we're recording one more mini before we make word-love to Mr. Faulkner and take a final bow.
Why is this happening?
Lots of reasons, but, for me, chiefly, it's about my respect for the show and the great 3+ years I've had creating it with my co-hosts and friends. I have had increasing demands on my time and other interests popping up over the years, and rather than not give the Bookhouse Boys podcast the attention and energy it deserves, I'd rather euthanize it and have it stuffed and mounted for all to enjoy.
Dave and Jason can speak to their reasons for not carrying on in my absence, if they choose to.
I can assure you there is no backstage drama or ill feelings between any of us.
So, what happens now?
Again, my friends can speak on their behalf, but for my part, I'll be continuing to co-moderate the book club here on GR. In fact, I suspect I'll be more active here than I than any other time in the past. I'm hoping that forethought and the act of typing will force me to be more coherent than I have on-the-fly on the podcast.
I am still in love with That's Cool, That's Trash! (www.thatscoolthatstrash.com) a podcast I started almost a year ago where I discuss psychotronic (read: weird-ass) movies with friends and we make iRiffs (http://www.rifftrax.com/iriffs/thats-...). I plan on writing that book I've been thinking about for an embarrassing amount of years and have finally started playing music again for the first time since my journey of fatherhood began.
As far as the show goes, I can't begin to thank all of the people who listened, guested, and interacted with us over the years. You have provided many of my favorite moments in the show's history (although Drunk Dave will always be my favorite 'guest').
I haven't discussed this with the boys, but I would like to have our last mini this week be open to anyone who wants to call in on Skype. We'll figure that out soon and update this thread.
Thanks!
See you around these here parts!

Anyways, I'm happy to hear that you will be playing music again, Matt, after what must have been a lengthy hiatus.
Though, selfishly, it saddens me that the show appears to be pulling into port and retiring, it has been a fulfilling experience for my listening pleasure.
I understand that the preparation, recording, and production in releasing a podcast is no quick and easy feat, but when I hear these kind of announcements, it only then becomes clear to me how much I take everyone's efforts for granted.
So, with that being said, I can't wait to hear and listen to those final, delicious moments and, although this isn't goodbye, I wish Matt all the best in his future endeavors.
Peas and underlings,
Rob
For me, it wasn't a big decision kind of thing. I kinda think of it as us all playing a really long game of Monopoly or something, and then at some point one of us looks up and says, "Hey, dudes, the sun's coming up. We're not really going to keep doing this, are we?" And then the other two guys go, "Awwwwww wait yeah you're right, let's go to bed."
It was fun, we had some laughs, now we're tired and bored. No point in seeing things through to some bitter end when we can just put the game away and call it a day.
Thanks to anyone who listened to us yammer, and even bigger thanks to all who participated in the yammering. We're keeping the Goodreads group open and hope everyone will keep stopping by and chatting with us and each other. We'll be around.

Thanks for your support and your very nice comments, Rob. You're been a good friend.
I'm going to move this over to its own thread.

That was the sexiest sunrise ever.

Also, Matt and Jason, would you recommend Portland as a nice city to live and work in? I'm on the academic job market this season, so I'm sort of looking at positions all over the map.

After I'm done rubbing Matt's Rifftrax all over my body like cocoa butter, that is.
