I have a question. I'd love your opinions on which you prefer: reading books on an e-reader, or reading paperbacks. Also, with the wide range of prices on e-books, (from Free/.99 to 7.99/9.99) is there a price point you won't exceed for an e-book? Thanks!

I love the feel of a real dead tree in my hands when I'm reading, but that said, there are times I prefer my Kindle. Like late at night when I can turn off the lights and not disturb anyone. Or when I don't want anyone to see the smut cover of the book I'm reading.As far as price goes, as a consumer I really resent paying full price for an ebook. I hate it, and refuse to buy them, with very few exceptions. If a paperbook is going for $7.99, I loathe paying more than $4.99 for it, and will often pass at that price because if I buy it in paperback, I can turn around and either sell it, or trade it to used bookstores for at least $2 in store credit.
$3.99 is really my cutoff unless it's something by an author I'm dying to read, and for unestablished authors, I won't pay more than $1.99 and then only if it has great reviews.

All my books have to match, ya know?
BUT THIS YEAR, I really went crazy and bought the ebook version for *cringes* $14.97, AND the hardcover because NO ONE touches my Kindle but me, and yes, when the paperback comes out, I'll buy it. Why? Because all my books have to match.
I'm sick, I tell you. Sick.
My books have to match, too, especially if it's a series.

I am with Dhes on all aspects. Sick, it defnately is!
If I had my druthers...PRINT PRINT PRINT...However, getting older (arthritis, carpel tunnel, eyesight) and SPACE (I can't give up my books very often, I actually have BOXES of books in storage
That said, I have been going the ebook route, I am saddened to say.
As far as price, right now, yes that is a major concern.
I have yet had it explained to me why an ebook should cost the same when the cost of the actual printing is not incurred. But I guess it is the same as most businesses, more profit not only for the 'glass offices' but also the employees and the 'supporting businesses'...not to mention the author!!
However, if a book is that important to me, I will buy it regardless. There are few that are that important, though.
On the other side of the coin (pun intended), I don't download all of the freebies just because they ARE free, either.
I'm with you, Zaanodes! The publishing industry is waaay behind the e-scene. There is virtually NO cost to publishing an e version of a book, yet they insist on pricing their books as if the cost for an e-book and a print book were the same. My opinion is that until readers refuse to buy their e-releases at anything above $4.99, they won't change - which is why I no longer buy a 7.99 e-book!
My left hand is partially paralyzed and so holding those big hardcovers is killer on my hand, which is why I got Lover Unleashed in Kindle, and hard cover for my family to read because I'd have to partially paralyze them if I caught anyone touching my Kindle!

If the earth gets hit by an asteroid or something and all my pb books go up in flames, I want my ereader locked and loaded. I mean, geez! Who knows how long it might take for those trees to grow back so we can chop them down and use them for books again?

I only download those freebies that interest me but I haven't read any because I'm waiting until I get an ereader. I keep changing my mind as to which one to buy every week.

I still much prefer print books, nothing can replace the smell and feel of them in my hands. If it's available in print, 9 times out of 10, I'll buy in print. Like Dhestiny mentioned, I also like being able to sell/trade a book if I end up not liking it.That said, I got my Sony e-Reader a couple of years ago, because I noticed the trend of so many books only being available in digital format and felt like I might be missing out on some good stuff. My strategy right now is to only buy books for my reader that are strictly available as e-books or where the print version is significantly more expensive and/or hard to find.
I agree that the price on e-books is atrocious (some publishers are worse than others) and sadly, I've heard that the extra money isn't going to the authors either. As far as I can tell they make the same royalty on a e-book as a print one. I always wait for sales/coupons/rebates of at least 30%+ off to get the best deals on e-books, and refuse to pay more than half the price of a MMPB which would work out to approx. $3-$4 on full-length novels. If they're novellas or short stories, my price point down based on the word count. Anyway, that's my $.02 worth.:-)

I would love the NOOK color, but I do not want to spend the money to buy it. Maybe for Christmas if keep up with the hints.

Maybe because I read in the subway a lot (where sometimes I have to spend an hour standing up in crowded cars), but I'm not in love with printed books. All I care about is the story.If I don't have an e-reader is because I also find the prices outrageous. Like most of you, I'm willing to pay $3-4 but no more.

Well since I don't have a kindle I'm a print-reader myself and prefer it that way. But I do wish sometimes I had a kindle on hand when I'm out places, I get super paranoid that someone will see the covers of the books. :P
I'm reading ebook on my phone and I say it's quite handy. Not much space to read as much text but I could read on my phone even in the middle of a discussion and my professors don't even know... :)
I have a Kindle app. on my iPhone and tend to use it at night when I want to curl up in a chair. During the day, I tend to use my laptop to read on. I still read paperbacks because there are those must-buy books which are simply not available on Kindle yet.
I know what you mean. I have a Kindle - Thankfully, most authors are beginning to realize that they can sell many more of their older releases if they put them at $2.99 or below. I gobble those up like candy. I also have a Nook. I check scores of books out from the library. It's the best of both worlds!
I miss looking at the covers, skimming through..."Oh, this is the one where..." or "I loved that story".Pixels aren't quite same. Just the title isn't quite the same...sigh...
I definitely read faster and more comfortably with an ebook, enlarged font, no strain on my hands and fingers, etc.
Guess GR will have to take up the slack with color covers and ratings and personal notes...
Still miss DTB's, though.
