Hey, Phil glad to see you!
And you are soooo right.
But I don't see him getting elected.

Cambria, don't you have that saying in the US? That what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, meaning how you treat one person should be how you treat another?

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments Can I jump topic for a moment to say that I just saw my most favorite TV commerical ever! Its back for the holidays....
who has seen it?
Its of a woman in a red leotard at target and she's like "training" for thebig B;ack friday shopping day. She's lifting baskets and doing crunches on that big red ball outside target..... then at the end she's running with a paracute attached to her back?????

OMG so so hilarious.

I want to be her when I grow up. Of course if i did that i would be laughing so hard i'd be rolling on the floor......

Arrr there, JA.

Final Mss for Books 2 and 3 are with the publisher, but (subject to any more last-minute changes) with all the other current excitement around CR I don't expect it to get going until some time next year. By then, hopefully, my personal problems will all be sorted and I may even have some money to do a bit of promotion.

Here's hoping!

I prefer it with sauce. No doubt JA has a good recipe somewhere.

J.A. Clement (jaclement) | 1328 comments Phil, if you think I'm a terrible foodie (or a very good one, according to POV) you should meet my sister! Bringer of kick-ass family repasts, that one - when she's around, I'm on spoon-holding duty (and that's not what you think it is, Splitter!!)
heheheh

Glad to hear 2&3 are coming on nicely - write me down for an interview when you have a release date though.

Splitter, your blog seems to be going down quite well!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 212 comments Hello everyone, I was just wondering, two things... I am sort of, er hem, relaunching Few Are Chosen with a new, super-duper improved cover, for Christmas. So if anyone has holes for an author interview, I'm game. I might also be able to talk about having finished the first draft of K'Barthan 2 - it's like pulling blood out of a stone but we are on the last scene.

Also, more interestingly, I'm thinking that I should make my blog a bit more lively by interviewing other authors so if anyone would like a bit of extra publicity feel free. I have to confess I haven't thought up the questions yet and I my blog is low key and followed by the proverbial two men and a dog (and I'm the dog). But there'll be googletastic backlinks for you... if you put them in.

Cheers

message 715: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 212 comments That's tricky... I have some ideas for a guest post so that would be great, if I have time, but if, at the last minute, I suddenly go 'yeek can it be an interview?' is that OK?

Cheers

TC | 55 comments Hi guys, I'm back again, must try and visit more regularly. Life sucks at the moment, little one is keeping me well and truly on my toes with all her appointments. week before last we were meant to have 7 of them (over 3 days) Managed to get rid of one but it's still a grind. Anyhoo, grump and excuses over!

It's very true about the double standard with Justin Bieber where he gets a slap on the back (or slapped with a lawsuit) rather than denounced. Will be so amused if he is the daddy after all his denials.

Not sure I've ever eaten goose, either with or without sauce. I've even gone off duck since moving next to a park with lots of them.

MTM, good luck with the home stretch on book 2!

Definitely do NOT stop doing your blog. You do a great blog, Tracy, whenever you have the time. You need more time to let people know about it but it's not something you should give up. Never give up things you do really well--they are usually the things you enjoy the most ;-)

I don't think anyone can be said to have a "nice chilled out life" in someone else's terms. What's busy for me is chilled out for you and vice a versa. And I think it, sometimes, is just a state of mind. IOW we do it to ourselves.

It's amazing what you find in oriental markets -- things that Westerners wouldn't even dream of making into nourishing food. But despite the off smells and strange sights, it's fascinating.

I spent four years in Hong Kong, and can still see and smell the Chinese market stalls in Kennedy Town. But I learned a lot of interesting things about different cookery styles, too.

Tip: Thousand-year-old eggs aren't.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 212 comments Phnark! Actually, a while back when I was skint I used to eat cloud ear fungus - cheap as chips dried and a little goes a logn way... and it's protein. And it tastes nice in a stir fry.

Hong Kong must have been a great experience. I haven't been there yet but definitely would like to. Ah... one day.

I think the oddest thing I will eat is a gummy candy in the shape of an eyeball...my eyes and nose are too closely related to my mouth and I'm picky. I'm not too adventurous when it comes to food - although I have been known to love me some sushi. But I don't really think that is considered odd anymore.

message 731: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Clement (jaclement) | 1328 comments Amy, you know the round sushi with seaweed round the outside? (I like sushi but haven't learnt the names yet!!) Our local does those, but the size of a normal wrap, and the bit inside the rice is julienned carrot and pickled ginger...Yummy! And pleasingly rubbery.

Though for me if they just filled it with the ginger, I'd be well chuffed!

message 736: by Cambria (new)

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments And also did you make one that you actually kept last year? How did it turn out?

message 737: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Clement (jaclement) | 1328 comments I made a resolution to publish a book...

And I set myself some deadlines when I wrote myself an email in the future on http://www.futureme.org/ but unfortunately I can't remember what the deadlines were so might not nec keep up with them!

What were yours?
JAC

message 738: by TC (new)

TC | 55 comments Well, another year been and gone, it seems like no time ago that we were all so excited about the new millenium! I don't generally make NY resolutions as I'm rubbish at keeping them. The last one I made won me a bet with my sister. The bet was over who would keep their resolution the longest. She forgot to ask what mine was before making the bet. Hers was not to eat chocolate, mine was not to swear at aardvarks. Kept that one really well. In 2012 I would like to try and find a way of balancing my time better, and fitting in more exercise. Wish me luck!

Did everyone have a good Xmas? Ours was pretty rubbish as at some point little un, hubby and I all had a sickness bug, and my granddad was in hospital all over the Xmas period. It'll definitely be one to forget. Tonight we're off down the pub for a couple of hours, then home at eleven to see in the new year with my parents and some rather civilised cheese and port. I'll say Happy New Year to everyone now, I hope 2012 is good to you all.

message 739: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 212 comments TC your resolution sounds sensible. Although if you really want to take off the pressure I find there's nothing better than resolving not to have a new years resolution. Works like a dream and any things I do want to achieve seem to be easier without the pressure. ;-)

I'm sorry to hear about your granddad, we had a bit of narrow squeak just before Christmas too with a family member in hospital. It was all pretty hairy.

I hope you have a good 2012 and while I'm here, everyone else, all the best to you for 2012 too.

Cheers

MTM

message 740: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (greeneyez2012) So how is the New Year treating everyone so far?

message 741: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 212 comments I've just got the proofs for the cover of K'Barthan 2 and I can't quite believe what a good job they've done! So, so chuffed... just writing the extra scenes, a supplementary plot strand and some little bits and bobs to add texture. It's beginning to look as if it might turn into something and there seems to be more of the third book in my head, waiting to be told, than I expected.

So, yes pretty good. Flying, frankly. You?

Cheers

J.A. Clement (jaclement) | 1328 comments Cooool! Looking fwd to seeing it - is it in the same vein as the new first ones then? And sounds like Bk 2 is coming on nicely....when are you hoping to get it online for?

Hope all's well with the assorted McFamily.

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments congrats MTM - sounds like things are going great!
JA- if you can't remember your resolutions or things you wanted to do they must not have been too pressing and I would say you'll get to them when you remember them! LOL!!
As for mine, I didn't really make any. Just keep working on my writing and get another 2 books or so out. ;)

message 744: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 212 comments Thank you both! I'm hoping to get the whole thing done by April. I'm not sure if it'll work out though because adding texture and humour is also adding words at an alarming rate. It was edited down to 120 and it's already up to... yeeek! 145,000 and rising. I don't really want it to be that big but I suspect that even when it gets edited again it'll only go down to about 140,000.

I'll see if I can get them to do a high-res version of the cover so I can start bandying it about a bit. I'm very excited. I hadn't realised how many doubts I had that I'd get this far until I saw the cover and felt yeh, it's happening now.

A long way to go but it's happening.

JAC sounds like you're getting on and Cambria, that sounds as good a New Years resolution as any.

Cheers

MTM

message 745: by Cambria (new)

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments Thanks MTM I hope you meet your goal of April and good luck with that word trimming thats always so hard!

message 746: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Clement (jaclement) | 1328 comments Ha, how prolific are you, Cambria?! By this time next year you'll be selling them like hot cakes, and we'll all be saying we knew you before you were famous!

MTM, I read a great blog today by a guy who said he was selling 20 or 30 a month when he had 2 books out and it took off after book 3 of the series. Now he's thinking about giving up the day job! And actually my OH who used to work in the book trade said that was often the case for series of things.

Not expecting that sort of success for myself, alas (wrong genre niche) but it's nice to know that if it just trickles along a bit, that might still change later. Be interesting to see what happens for both of us with our respective books 2 (hopefully enough sales to buy the Maldives, obv, but in the real world...)

What all the big sellers seem to agree on is that when it comes down to it, and regardless of genre, having large numbers of books available seems to be the key - which is why you're onto a good thing there, Cambria!

BTW how's it going with the top ten?
JAC

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 212 comments JAC that is a very nice thing to hear - wrong genre niche for me too but hey... Have had a bad day, writing didn't go well and four days until the next shot. Wee man hasn't been sleeping well so I haven't had the same off duty feeling in the evenings as I usually do.

You know we had that conversation about getting stuck on the bad guy having to be thick. Well, that's sorted but now I've got the same blumming thing with two more characters GRRRR!

I wish I could just stop my life for a couple of days and finished the wretched thing. I'd like to get rid of that horrible sense of I've-got-to-finish-this urgency will abate for a month or two.

Cambria, not wanting to pick up fag ends but is that a top ten novel we're talking?

Cheers

MTM.

message 750: by Cambria (new)

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments Yes, a lot of people think that having a large number of books is key.... I think about this a lot. I agree that it makes an author look more credible and experienced but I also think that an author should make sure that they are putting out quality of quantity do you agree?
