Paul (psinderson) | 10 comments I just stumbled upon this place and see that it's brand new! Men are so VASTLY outnumbered here, it's nice to see that I'm not the only man on Goodreads... :)

Exactly Paul! That was my precise reason for creating it! Welcome!

Current trying to get into A Game of Thrones

Paul (psinderson) | 10 comments I have "A Game of Thrones" on my hold list at the library (eBook). I enjoy fantasy and I'm really looking forward to the series.

I have wanted to reads "A Game of Thrones" for a while now! I have watched some of the TV series on HBO and it is quite amazing! I hear that the TV show and the book are almost exactly the same. I may read it eventually though as I'm sure it will be great!

Jeff Fuller (sirfuller) I read "A Game of Thrones" a couple months ago. It really was excellent. I started the second book but then got sidetracked...

Dan Evans | 8 comments I think my favorite Steinbeck is the always the last one read! I just finished East of Eden --- a great read!

Dan, how are you liking Game of Thrones so far? Based on the show, I know that it is a pretty political fantasy series. Not sure how much I like to read that sort of thing, but like I said before, I may give it a shot.

Dan Evans | 8 comments Chris, I am a little bit disappointed in A Game of Thrones. I was expecting something more like a modern Tolkien.

I guess it is for a new generation of young folks. A little too much raunchy sex for my liking.

Other than that it is a easy read with numerous well developed characters. I don’t see it as a five star. Right now I am somewhere between a three and four. I am the rare bird in that all my friends call it a five.

I hope you decide to give it a shot.

I find a lot of the other groups here are geared toward teenagers, roleplayers, or are on topics so broad that it's hard to find commonality.

Dan Evans | 8 comments I am looking for a group that likes the books that shocked the world in the 1940's and 50's. I was very impressionable then. I just got a copy of From Here to Eternity I am looking forward to a good re-read from long ago.

Made a pretty good movie also.

Dennis Hey guys! Just stumbled upon the group and knew I had to join. I recently established my Goodreads account and I was paging through all the groups and it seemed that they were all comprised of women. Good to know that there are some guys out there who enjoy to read like I do.

I love to read but the full-time job, two kids and wife keep me from reading more. I just finished Hunger Games and thought it was a pretty good read and look forward to the next two books.

Chris, thanks for starting the group! Look forward to getting some book ideas from everyone.

Charles (charles-26) | 6 comments Hello, Gentlemen!

I have been a member of a man's bookgroup (not virtual) based in Brookline, MA, for a number of years... and I love it. Newsflash: Men are different from Women (with some wonderful and unpredictable overlap, of course).

Our conversations included books, but freely wandered to sports, politics, etc., etc.

I will share one story. One member walked in and said, "Last month was our 10 year anniversary. And not one person either noted or remembered. You guys are great!"

Jack Cavanaugh (novelistjack) | 3 comments If you like history and haven't ready any historical fiction, you should try Herman Wouk's Winds of War. The guy writes seamless historical fiction. Meticulously researched, seven years in the making, he visited most of the historical places himself. Interspersed throughout the book are the memoirs of Gen. von Roon (fictional), a German officer, describing the events of WWII from the German point of view. Good stuff.

Current ..."

The first book is rough, but it helps to watch the first season on HBO first before you start reading the book.

Kevin | 4 comments I have The eye of the world by R. Jordan or The gardens of the moon by Steven Erikson. Which should I read first?
