I'm curious, have any of you found it, let's say "challenging", to reconcile Edmond Dantès with Sinbad the Sailor (as he reappears in chapter 31 on the Monte-Cristo island)? Do you find the evolution of the character pleasing, was it what you expected the character to develop into, does it fit the image and the feelings you had develop for this character?

Keep my question in mind as you keep reading as well cause I think it might be interesting to come back on our perception of Dantès later on...

I've just finished chapter 33, and it seems almost as if I'm reading a different book. The storyline has changed so much. The stories in the last few chapters are interesting and exciting, and I suppose they will tie into the rest of the chapters eventually.

Having finished it, I think the sudden shifts in the narrative made Edmond's journey so much more otherworldly. He is such a force of power and riches at that stage in the novel, he really can do anything!
