ABANDONED. English or Scottish settings, written in D.H. Lawrence era, married man finds true love after marriage, exchange of love letters

I am trying to find a book written during the DH lawrence era with english or scottish settings. The story is of a married man with kids finding his true love after marriage. Through out the book there is exchange of love letters.Towards the end he has to leave his love cant rememeber the reason, sees her off in a train one evening gets back home & thats it - he is gone

Was it fiction or nonfiction? Can you edit your header to be more descriptive?

I'm confused, he finds his true love after marriage, with a new woman, but one of them abandons the other? The woman leaves in a train but "he is gone" meaning the man? Or did you mean "she is gone?"
