Just a reminder, we have a book swap thread for swapping books. It's the best place to have these kinds of discussions, since this thread is for talking about HQN books we're reading.
Thanks!
Thanks!

First - The Flaw in his Diamond by Susan Stephens: I didn't really get this. Stephens made reference a couple of times to the heroine Eva having met the hero Roman before and the meeting having been a bit of a disaster but I couldn't find any details about that and I found that weird. I found the whole story disjointed. Anyone else?
Second - His Temporary Mistress by Cathy Williams
This story was okay but there was one thing I really didn't like. Okay, I'm old-fashioned, I admit it but I really did not like the hero ejaculating on the heroine's face. pg. 127 ..(Her mouth met his hardness) "He tugged her off him before he came and she felt his ejection on her face and body. It mirrored her own wetness that glistened on his face.' Nup. Didn't do it for me Ms. Williams!Over the years, the 'love' scenes have become more and more graphic in this line. I'd be really interested to know how other people react to this level of explicitness - should it be in or out? (No pun intended!)
Finally - The Most Expensive Lie of All by Michelle Conder. Yes, yes! This story about a guy, Cruz, who swapped the polo field for the boardroom and champion horse breeder Aspen was just wonderful. A very satisfying read and one I'd definitely recommend. I haven't read anything by this author before that I recall, but will certainly be looking out for her again.

Yuck. That is not at all sexy. It totally grossed me out. There are just some things better off left to the imagination.

I just finished Dark Dominion by Charlotte Lamb. I was hoping to like it better than I did. The old skool crazy wasn't the right type of crazy for me. I think that the subject matter was too realistic. I don't want a woman who is conflicted about who she loves in the middle of an HP. At the beginning maybe but not getting off on kissing another man after she's been married to the hero for two years.

I'm too chicken to even read the first page!

Wow!!! that Cathy Willians sex scene really was pushing the envelope for a hp.....that has to be the most graphic that I have heard of in an hp.

I don't know why it's considered so un pc. Is it because she is not sure which man she wants? I'll buy that reason. He was not the most un pc hero I've read. I really felt that Blasé from An Old Passion was much more un pc. He actually physically hurt her many times and he meant to do it. I think after the book ended he became a wife beater. At least James in Dark Dominion was worried about his violent tendencies and went away for a while to figure out if he could control himself.

Since I haven't read Dark Dominion, it would be unfair for me to say why it's considered UNPC (though I do have my opinions)... but I think Verity's review hits all the aspects of why it is so UNPC (it's a great review!)

It kind of makes me nervous when I see HPs get too graphic. I'm afraid they will start having backdoor sex in the books, and I can't handle that. :(

second one is almost finished
Strangers in the Desert had interesting description. it has amnesia , marriage of convenience, second chance romance and baby.
What a Sicilian Husband Wants has runaway wife ,second chance romance and secret baby
so they tick my needed hp factors

rating sadly 3.5 , which less coz i m very lenient for rating the book . all i care is i enjoyed the read and love the characters
turn off was that H didn't vocalize his confession in the end properly which was okay as action speak more, .
i thought in epilogue author might tells us H took care of heroine during the years have passed. love was there but it wasn't explained in clear words that he cherished her during other pregnancies ,ofcourse he must have.but as his neglect during her first pregnancy though not intentional was one of the reason for their separation. how they decide to have more babies as first pregnancy was difficult for her
but this book nice . just failed in one criteria for me. maybe my expectations were high.
but i totally recommend this book.

I agree with you, Leona. Sometimes I find myself skipping the more graphic bedroom scenes in the newer HPs to get back to the story (although sometimes, I think, that is the story).

Also Public Wife Private Mistress by Sarah Morgan. Also fantastic! OH HOW I LOVE MY HPs!!!

Have always enjoyed Kelly Hunter. Maybe I'm getting fussier or harder to please because this one didn't absorb me. It was okay but I certainly was able to put it down after each chapter, turn off the light and go to bed. I was left wondering about the mission of the heroine's brother. That wasn't really resolved for me. I also thought Kelly Hunter could've done more with the heroine when she regained her memory and found out what the hero had done. What could have been really charged, I thought fell flat. Any comments from other readers?
First time I've read a book by Shoma Narayanan and it will be the last. Just fell short in every department and was surprised it had been accepted by M & B. Why? The hero Nikhil just wasn't alpha enough for me and the Shweta was also a bit wishy-washy. I found the dialogue really ordinary as well and the conflict pretty shallow. Anyone else read it?
A non-presents title, however, that I thoroughly enjoyed was "Echoes of the Heart" by Alyssa J. Montgomery. I've commented on her earlier work. Her voice and style seem 'presents' to me and I found her latest book very compelling. Commented on it just a few moments ago in the thread on vengeful heroes.

I've been on an HP dry spell for a really long time. Recently I picked up
Passionate Scandal by Michelle Reid and really enjoyed it. Lives up to its title on the passion scale. Like the typical HP though, you really have to check in your logic and common sense at the door or else you really won't enjoy this one.
I also recently discovered Karen Van der Zee (thanks, Leona!). Her books are different from the typical HP and more down to earth. I really enjoyed the difference in tone though. Some might find her a little slow and less passionate, but if you enjoy a more subtle romance focused on internal versus external conflict, you might want to give her a try. I really enjoyed:
An Inconvenient Husband and
Something in Return. I really liked the heroine in this one.

Harlequin Kiss (formerly together with Presents but they split it into a separate line. Used to be called M&B Riva in the UK).
More modern and flirty, with less of the crazy drama of a Presents.

I really enjoy some of the authors in that line. Kelly Hunter, Natalie Anderson, Ally Blake are some of my favorites.
