Happy new year, Danielle!

message 860: by Sudakshina (new)

Sudakshina Happy New Year, ladies!

Jennie, MOC is my favourite trope. :)

If you want a nice, gentlemanly hero, I suggest you read The Final Touch (The Best of Betty Neels) by Betty Neels

But if you want the usual HP alpha hero then I suggest The Price of a Bride (Harlequin Presents, #2033) by Michelle Reid , Ruthless Magnate, Convenient Wife by Lynne Graham , Ruthlessly Bedded, Forcibly Wedded by Abby Green

Now if you want something in between, you could try Imprisoned by a Vow by Annie West (The hero's an Australian.)

If you want to read vintage HPs, then you might try, Substitute Wife by Rachel Lindsay , Infamous Bargain by Daphne Clair , Storm Cloud Marriage by Roberta Leigh

I hope you find something worth reading. :)

I'm reading Sleigh Bells in the Snow right now. Love Sarah Morgan. She writes great sexual tension.

I'm reading this too right now. At page 186. Love this author's work.

Roub (roubina) | 34 comments happy new yr Onu !!i liked Substitute Wife by Rachel Lindsay & Ruthless Magnate, Convenient Wife by Lynne Graham very very much:D

message 865: by Sudakshina (new)

Sudakshina Happy New Year, Roub! :)

I liked them too. Full of angst.

I have spent hours choosing a book to read. I want to read something good at least on the first day of the new year. We have the rest of the year for reading most of the terrible ones. :p You have any recommendations?

message 866: by Roub (last edited Jan 01, 2014 04:42AM) (new)

Roub (roubina) | 34 comments if u want an older one, go 4 Marriage on the Rebound (Harlequin Presents, #1973) by Michelle Reid (besotted hero), Mistress of the Groom by Susan Napier (hero hated heroine). these books r opposites but both r a 5 star read n definitely worth a re read :D ders also Bride In Blue (Wedlocked!) (Harlequin Presents, No 1811) by Miranda Lee but not 2 every1's taste bcoz hero had sex wid other women. i dunt feel he cheated on her bcoz it was supposed 2be a marriage in name n she was in love wid his brother, so.. it all depends on one's perceptions !

newer ones: The Ruthless Magnate's Virgin Mistress by Lynne Graham , The Ultimate Surrender by Penny Jordan , Bought By The Greek Tycoon (Harlequin Presents, #2512) by Jacqueline Baird , To Love, Honor and Betray by Jennie Lucas .
The Contaxis Baby by Lynne Graham is a really gud one but also very intense n involves lots of negative feelings :P

Happy New Year Ladies

Jennie, my personal favorites are

The Cozakis Bride (Greek Tycoons)

The Price of a Bride

In Name Only

Wife by Arrangment

Accompanied by His Wife

Nobody Asked Me

Onu is right. Betty Neels wrote a lot of MOC's, but this is her best!

The Final Touch

I completely agree with you. I do not like Sharon Kendrick's work as a rule and e-mailed her to ask her to explain why she has her heroes treat her heroines like idiots. I also asked her to explain why her heroines are so brainless. The response was not favorable so I do not buy any of her books. They are not worth the cost.

message 874: by Leona (last edited Jan 02, 2014 08:56AM) (new)

Leona (wdwcbm) | 373 comments Keisha, I feel the same way you do. Out of curiosity, how did she respond? In the last 2 years, I have read 735 HP's. I have only read 4 by this author. Most were 2-3 star ratings, except for one The Sicilian's Passion. I gave that one 4 stars. If I were to reread any of these, I suspect I would down grade them all by at least 1-2 stars.

message 875: by Beth (new)

Beth (bscharwath) | 55 comments Sharon Kendrick's books don't work for me either. I don't like her writing style. Too wooden or something, but I still get suckered in by the descriptions.

GOOD NEWS: I just finished Julia James Securing the Greek's Legacy Securing the Greek's Legacy Securing the Greek's Legacy (Harlequin Presents) by Julia James

It's an almost MOC, starts out that way. Heroine could have been stronger but I really enjoyed it. It's restored my faith in the new HPs. They have been dismal lately.

I don't read HPs to listen to the heroine wax poetic about the orgasms she gave herself with her vibrator or the Hero to think about the unbelieveable sensation in his...gasp..balls...(LOL) HPs are supposed to sweet and clean smut. I'll read erotica or other category romance for smut smut. :D

Dani Collin's More than a Convenient Marriage starts off in the middle of a MOC and so far it's very good. I like Collin a lot, but her writing style makes me use my brain so it takes a little longer to read her. More than a Convenient Marriage? by Dani Collins More than a Convenient Marriage?

Happy New Year!

message 876: by Leona (new)

Leona (wdwcbm) | 373 comments I just finished The Land of Maybe by Sandra Field, which was a maybe for me.

Caribbean Cocktail by Jane Corrie. This could have been great. I enjoyed the storyline, the heroine just let everyone walk all over her....But some may like this one.

message 877: by Jacqueline J (new)

Jacqueline J | 267 comments Taking a snack break from The Dimitrakos Proposition. Loving it. The heroine is super feisty and keeps telling the hero off and telling him she wants to thump him. It is really cute so far.

message 879: by Darthvader (new)

Darthvader | 25 comments Deal of a Lifetime well written heroine who's strong, wont take crap from men for having a career and gives it back as good as she gets.hehe loved it!the hero is super likeable.not the one to hurl around insults.very persuasive and charming.

message 880: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Millicent | 18 comments I've just read Amy Andrews "The Most Expensive Night of Her Life". It's the first of her books that I've read. The storyline I thought was really great and had some real originality in it. I enjoyed it very much - apart from two things. I got pulled out of the story every time Andrews had her characters say freaking this and freaking that; and the other thing was that the heroine came across as having been very promiscuous previously. If those elements had been taken out I'd be racing out to get another Andrews book tomorrow because there was lots of great emotion, the hero was very heroic, and the heroine was admirable in almost every way. The ending was also satisfying. As it is, however, those two little things just detracted from the story from my point of view and it left me feeling like it was just a little bit common. Has anyone else read it? What were your thoughts?

I don't care for promiscuous main characters, so I can understand your dilemma. I'm not a sexist and I don't believe in double standards, but I think the heroine as promiscuous bothers me more because I am a woman, and it's hard to conceive of being with a bunch of men.

Beth (bscharwath) | 55 comments Just found this on Amazon. I think these are Sandra Martin HPs from late 80s early 90s. 5 for 99 cents. I haven't read any of them but I thought that was a great price. I'm hoping will see more of this. I like bring able to read the vintage HPs on my kindle buy $5 for the treasury releases is a bit much

message 886: by Jacqueline J (new)

Jacqueline J | 267 comments Broke down and ordered 2 vintage HPs from Amazon. The Bartered Bride and Beloved Vagabond. Both are accidental marriage to a gypsy trope. LOLing 'cuz that's a trope. Anyway I know I read at least one of these back when they first came out, 1975 and 1981 respectively. Gonna read both and see what I think almost 40 years later.

I didn't find any ebooks by Mary Burchell

message 890: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Millicent | 18 comments Just read "The Tycoon's Delicious Distraction". Reviewed this on my page if anyone is interested. I struggled to page 47, almost gave up there, continued but it was probably the most ho-hum, cardboard plot and characters...won't go on - couldn't be bothered. Author Maggie Cox have enjoyed her in the past.

message 892: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Millicent | 18 comments YAY! Such a good feeling to be able to review a book in a positive way after the last negative! Just read the Dimitrakos Proposition by Lynne Graham.

Blurb: Sharp-tongued, independent firestorm Tabby Glover will do anything to get Greek billionaire Acheron Dimitrakos to support her adoption claim over his cousin's small child. The last thing she expected was his outrageous marriage proposal!
Tabby has no choice but to say yes, even if the arrogant tycoon can't stop looking down his nose at her...But as the veil between truth and lies lifts, will this marriage become more than in name only?'

His reason for needing to marry is same-old, but I don't have a problem with that as it's almost a given in this line that the tried and true plots will be reinvented. I really enjoyed it from cover to cover. Nice, independent heroine; good motivations from hero and heroine; great conflict established and wonderful, believable character growth!
