What HQNs are you reading right now?
Betrayal of LoveInteresting in that the heroine grows up during the years that her more mature husband disappears and is not a doormat when he shows up.
Innocent Pawn. I enjoyed this one if for nor more than the hard to believe plot. The hero took responsibility for his actions and he was rather a likeable man.Smokescreen Marriage one of my favorites. I liked most of the characters but Victorine was a bitch. I liked that the hero's father became a fairly nice man by the end of the story
Innocent on Her Wedding Night: Ruthless A great read and the hero's "I'm not going far. And if you decide you want me, you know where to find me." A lot of angst and tension as the hero ponders why the heroine marries him when she refuses to be his wife.

Ginny, I luuuuuuuve this book. I really don't know why, but I read this book over and over again. Objectively speaking, it's not such a fantastic book, but I just love this one for some bizarre reason. The heroine is breathtakingly stupid, but I just love the hero for some inexplicable reason. Now I'm going to have to read this once again for the like the 20th time, LOL.

Hi there..ladies..I think I am in the wrong thread to ask this question, but what is the difference between a Harlequin Romance and a Harlequin Presents? Just to make this question legitimate, I am in the midst of reading A Marriage Worth Fighting For and am really really enjoying it..Thus the question.
This book seems more real, with real issues.
Every Harlequin line is different. HPs are typically much more OTT dramatic. Think the TV show Dallas etc. Harlequin Romances are slightly more realistic although they are usually fairly dramatic. They usually don't have the hot sex scenes in them. They're "sweeter." The Special Edition and Super Romance lines which includes AMWFF are usually much more realistic story lines with much more ordinary people in them. But they do tend to be movie of the week type plots.
All the other lines have their differences too.
That's all my take on it from 35 years of reading Harlequins.

I am going through the last books that I read and it is like I plucked it from the air. I am always mixing up my titles and that is the reason for making notes.

Same Time Next Summer (Harlequin Superromance)Not bad and not great either. So-so. I liked the hero and heroine. I liked the premise of growing up together, going separate ways and coming back in their thirties.
A Bride for His Convenience I liked and felt my time waswell The Constantin Marriage[Another marriage of convenience. I did not like that the hero continued with his mistress until the heroine decides to be a real wife.
Just finished reading The Sarantos Secret Baby by Olivia Gates. . Fantastic!! Combines Greek tycoon ( who actually seems to understand women) and a strong, successful heroine. Add a gorgeous baby and some over protective Greek brothers into that mix and you've got yourself a story! Now reading Chained To The Barbarian which is set in Constantinople at the height of the Byzantine Empire. So far I'm really liking it. Historicals aren't my favourites but this one is good.
I am in the middle of Saturday's Child by Betty Neels. I so enjoy her work. I am on a Betty Neels and Jessica Steele kick these days. Thoroughly enjoying both authors.
I know I read some Betty Neels back in the day. I'll have to give her another try to see how she holds up.

I am working on my Halloween scary reads this month, but I am very tempted to read for a HQN. I go into withdrawal too long between HQNs.
Leona,I love Betty Neels, have you read
,this is my fav of all times BN book.Going to do a re read soon.
I'm busy with
and loving it. Abby Green is amazing. There's a massive spoiler alert on this one (view spoiler). One thing that was off putting was the cover. The cover depiction does not correspond with the discription of the H/h in the book.
I'm off to read further!
BTW, I haven't been here for a while. Good to see everyone is still here.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I rereadThe Constantin Marriageagain on Wednesday and surprise! I liked it much better than the first time. The interaction between the two while at the pearl farm and descriptions of the area were fantastic. The heroine was feisty and no pushover and I liked that. Did not like her mother but learned why she was as she was.I have been on a Lindsay Armstrong kick; she was not a favorite of mine before but I find that I like many of her books.

I haven't had time to read a HQN for a while now. :( I hope to squeeze some in this month, and I will be going HQN crazy next month with my Christmas reading!
You don't want to starve yourself, Lady D so squeeze a few because we do not want you to expire. The Inward Storm enjoyable.
The Marriage Resolution - Aku Masih Cinta.
Child of Their Vows I liked and disliked this one. A couple with four girls has been married for more than ten years when the husband receives a letter from his son. This is a child who was conceived while he was engaged to his wife though there was a break between them bcause their parents felt they were too young to marry. The pre-husband (is that a word?) was sent to a ranch by his parents and he meets this girl. Now the husband wants to meet the boy and wants his wife to accept the boy. He has wanted a boy so the wife feels she has failed him in that her body did not accept the male sperm. Can you imagine? His girls must accept the lad when the husband asks him to spend his summer vacation with them. He is such an idiot. A lot of tension, angst and a very stupid husband. Worth reading.
Deborah's Son I liked this one. An interesting plot that has an engagement that is broken because the hero has something in his family's background that he thinks he should not father a child because of this terrible. He does not know at this time that he has already fathered a child. His ex is pregnant so how will the situation progress ?

I love your thoughts on Child of Their Vows, Virginia. Especially the 'he's such an idiot', and 'her body not accepting the male sperm.' LOL!
I've watch a lot of weird nature/science shows and documentaries over the years, and there are some theories that the female body can do some things to determine the sex of the child. I think one had to do with the egg potentially emitting chemicals or enzymes that target X vs Y sperm (or vice versa).

...especially if the female is raped. Don't have to worry about the gender because there is no fertilization. Can anyone believe this?

Just finished The Rules of Engagement and The Secret Wedding Dress by Ally Blake and I really enjoyed them. Both have heroines who are a little wacky but the heroes were very yummy. As always, Ally Blake's writing is light and fun and totally engaging. Those of you who are more traditionalists might not like her style too much, but for those who enjoy a more "modern" story, Ally Blake is great. I couldn't really get into her recent few books, but I really enjoyed these latest releases.

I'm currently reading
. The heroine seams so indifferent to her own child that the hole book is ruined for me because of that! I know that HP editors recommend to the authors not to focus very much on a child, so that the love story remains at the centre, but still! The 2 year old boy sees his mother for about 5 minutes per day. He spents the day with his evil nunny or with his father. What his mother does knowing all this? 1)She "crosses her fingers" that everything is gonna be ok, and 2)She thinks of the hero 24/7. Of course everyone thinks that she is a great mother, blah, blah, blah... How believable is that?????

I don't think that many HP books do kids that well. They seem to focus more on the pregnancy. I'd love to see the book show the heroine and hero spending time with their children, and not using them as plot points.
Lady Danielle aka The Book Huntress wrote: "I'd love to see the book show the heroine and hero spending time with their children, and not using the..."That's exactly what I mean! It's not believable. A real-world mum would never act like that.

I actually thought this one was much better than most. But I know what you mean...The one I really despised was My Only love by Lee Wilkinson....she would leave her child for days on end.
Leona wrote: "The one I really despised was My Only love by Lee Wilkinson....she would leave her child for days on end."Exactly! That is a wallbanger for me.
Hey Demetra, your description of the book is so funny and I totally understand what you're saying! Sounds crappy!

Ladies - I am currently home nursing a rather nasty cold. So I have my feet up, medicine, liquids, a box of kleenex and my beloved nook. I think I will remain here till Monday morning.
I am currently reading Greek Bridal by Henrietta Reid....and I don't know what to say. I don't know if it is my over the counter drug induced brain, or if this is truly horrible. All I can say is that if this were the first HP I ever read, I would never have read another.
It is very different. No real angst, except for the absolutely asshat heroine....who is rude, self-centered, immature, and a host of other non flattering attributes. The hero is sweet, and since this is an older HP, he is not one of those billionaire tycoons, but a successful farmer. The secondary characters are interesting. I just can't move past the fact that the angst in plot is driven by the stupidity and nasty things from the heroine.
But I have to see how it finishes, cause I can't imagine the hero will actually fall in love with her.
Now, if some of you lovely ladies, could PLEASE send me the titles of your most favorite reads................I can curl up for the rest of the weekend in bliss!

You too, huh? I hope you feel better, Leona!
I am a huge Susan Napier fan, so I'd point you towards hers, pretty much all of her books are good.

Sorry you caught that nasty bug too, Leona! Lots of hot tea with honey and a good old HP will at least make your time bearable for sure!
You know all my favorites but I noticed you have not yet read Intangible Dream and A Certain Affection by Patricia Wilson. I am not sure you'll love them, but you could try them out.
I know you tend to like the angst filled more traditional HPs, but if you are in an adventurous mood, you might want to try Heidi Rice or Natalie Anderson. Their books tend to be a little lighter and have a more contemporary feel to them but are also quite engaging.
Here are some suggestions, although read the reviews first before you decide to read them:
On the First Night of Christmas by Heidi Rice
The Good, the Bad and the Wild by Heidi Rice (I have not read this one but many have liked it).
His Mistress By Arrangement by Natalie Anderson
Hope you feel better soon!
