Hope you find one that you really. I will look through the books and send more titles.

. The two sisters' stories are also good reading. I must look for the titles.

Lost in Love ***** 5 stars...WOW WOW...one of Michelle Reid's best works!
The Greek Tycoon's Virgin Wife 3.5 stars..silly title, but one of HB's better reads
Silence Speaks for Love 2 stars. Really felt the author lacked total sensitivity and mishandled the topic of being mute.

yes these two were my least favorite of AG..

Demetra, those are two of my favourite books - recently. Sorry you didn't like them.

He's a Russian! Enough said. And he is gorgeous. Steely eyes.

This is so not a Modern! The writing is totally different than a Modern's. The H/h don't follow the Modern "pattern". Very strange .....

Strange in a good way, or strange in a bad way?

The same with Miranda Lee's Contract with Consequences. The hereo volutneers to give the heroine a baby, not by artificial insemination, but the "old" way! Great story, but again, not a Modern.
I love my tycoons, billionaires, princes, sheikhs, counts etc. To me, these guys are part of the Modern theme of books. Not a bloody geologist and rancher! To me those are more like Silhouette Desires or something.

Borrowed Wife 2 stars
Blue Jasmine 4 stars...now were they doing the deed? What do you think?

Mills & Boon used to have a related line, Modern Heat, that was published together with the Moderns. Then they did away with the Modern Heat line and replaced it with the Riva line. Then they couldn't figure out whether Riva was a good idea and I think they now just market those as Modern instead. In the US market, those are marketed under the Harlequin Presents Extra Line.
The Modern Heat/Riva/HPE lines have a more contemporary feel to them, with more contemporary heroes and storylines. That means the heroines won't always be virgins and the heroes have more modern sensitivities and more diverse jobs than the standard Modern Greek or Italian tycoon. That may not be for the ladies who like their classic Harleys.
For me, I quite enjoy the Modern Heat/Riva/HPE line because I just enjoy the more flirty, contemporary feel to them. The heroines also tend to be more independent and are less prone to be afflicted with the "too stupid to live" syndrome so common for the classic Modern heroine.
I actually quite enjoyed Contract with Consequences and really liked the hero. I do agree that it does really have a different feel from the more classic storylines, though.

Personally, I like the heroes that are rich enough to not have to worry about money but not so wealthy that they are complete jerks who think they can give her a new wardrobe and jewelry to buy her love. I want a hero that has money because he built something, made something, invented something -- not just because was a whiz at the stock market with the $10 he had in his pocket when his parents abandoned him.

Thanks for the explanation. We do actually get Riva here in South Africa. I just don't expect this type of trope from these two writers.

Serious question!
Aruana

They really look modern!
Bytheway: Do the Riva's count, when you read them for the HP challenge if they are previously published as Harlequin presents?

I count the Rivas, Kouk. To me, they are all part and parcel of the Harlequin Presents/Modern line even though they are marketed differently.

I blame Harlequin, not the writers. They push them to write for modern sensibilities, forgetting that it's the style of the older books that got them (and kept) their fans.

The Winter Heart Intense, intense...but a bit too psychotic for me ...2 stars
Elusive Obsession 4 stars
Playing the Greek's Game 2 stars
Edge of Deception 4 stars..very intense older HP..for those of you that like the older drama intense HP's, this is a great one to read.
Hajar's Hidden Legacy 3 stars
Thunder On The Reef 4 stars

Hm . . . . We seem to have very different tastes in books, but if you enjoyed MR's Dark Side of Desire, you might like The Spaniard's Marriage Bargain by Abby Green. Maybe also try Her Last Night of Innocence (Mills & Boon Modern )/The Secret She Can't Hide by India Grey and The Scorsolini Marriage Bargain by Lucy Monroe. I haven't read too many by Jennie Lucas, but I think her books seem to have the same kind of dramatic passion to them.
Some others you may want to try:
The Lost Wife Maggie Cox.
The S Before Ex Mira Lyn Kelly.
The Sheikh's Ransomed Bride (Surrender to the Sheikh) Annie West.
Forgotten Mistress, Secret Love-Child (Regally Wed) Annie West.
The Savakis Mistress Annie West.
Lost in Love Michelle Reid.
The Ultimate Betrayal Michelle Reid.
The Sheikh's Chosen Wife Michelle Reid.
Craving Jamie Emma Darcy (childhood friends).
Lovers Not Friends Helen Brooks.
If you haven't tried an Annie West book yet, must give her a try!
On the lighter side of things, you seem to like Heidi Rice, so you may want to try
On the First Night of Christmas.

Cassie, which book did the hitting...the one by Julia James?

I've considered this question before also. I think that a lot of times authors are just tired of writing and the well is dry. Honestly how can you keep coming up with good fresh ideas for 20 years or more? Especially with the numbers of books some writers put out? Dead lines have to play into this also. This happens not just to category romance writers but to anyone who is coming out with a book or more a year.

I am soooo enjoying these older books. This one was amazing and Vito was amazing. She was a bit of a shrew at times, but her past sort of explained it.
Loved it!
I'm moving on to The Contaxis Baby by Lynne Graham.
