Jan C (woeisme) | 39224 comments I saw my first Little Free Library today. So now I have an additional place to leave books.

message 202: by Franky (new)

Franky | 1041 comments I like to stack them up, but them up in the book shelf, and say "wow, that is a lot of books."

But, sometimes I also think: I need to start reading some of those books one of these days. You know the old saying: Too many books, too little time.

Autumn (autumnmemory80) | 374 comments I love to keep mine, but if I am not crazy over it, I will trade them in on paperbackswap.com.

message 204: by [deleted user] (new)

If it's part of a series that I read, I keep it. If it's a book from one of my favorite authors, like Stephen King, I keep it. Otherwise, I donate them at my local grocery store who then sells them at a great price for The United Way.

I love paperback swap! I have way too many credits to ever use them all, but my wishlist is on auto request, so books find their way to me eventually.

VickiLee | 483 comments I am a generous sharer of books - real, hold-in-your-hands books. My frustration comes with the eBooks I purchase. Is there a way I can share them? Or do they simply sit in my cyber cloud like sad, rejected angels?

message 207: by Thomas (new)

Thomas (tom471) | 2011 comments Amazon lets you share some eBooks(must be lending enabled). you can only share a book once.

Sandysbookaday (taking a step back for a while) (sandyj21) | 4769 comments I am one of five people who share their books around. If we don't want a particular book back, we just initial that we have read it and pass it on, and when it has been right around the group it generally goes to a charity shop to be resold. We buy a lot of our books from charity shops also.
If we do want to keep a particular book we just write "please return to....." in the front cover (buyer has first claim). 8:D

message 209: by Jamie (new)

Jamie West If it's a favorite series that I'll reread or lend, I'll keep it. If not, I donate it to my library. I pretty much but everything on Kindle now. If it's something I really love and want to lend, I'll buy it again in hard copy.

message 210: by Helena (new)

Helena Greenfield | 81 comments I'm afraid I am a huge hoarder. Keep them all on my bookshelves. I do occasionally lend them out (and sometimes I know the person will probably forget to return), but as a rule I keep most of the books and can't imagine parting with them.I just always think I might want to re-read them someday.

Michael Rubin | 10 comments I try to keep all my hardcover and papers books, especially because I often annotate them, noting passages I like.

And, books always make great gift.

There's a contest I've heard about where you can win a thiller a week for a year for free. www.thebigthrill.org/1000-thrillers/ @thrlllerwriters

I saw that announcement. I thought about entering, but realized I already have way too many books to take on more.

Michael - would you like to post the link and a little blurb in the "interesting stuff" folder? Maybe there are other members who'd like to know about it. You can feel free to start another topic.

Flow is good.

Donald Grant (drdon1996) | 129 comments We just moved and had to downsize, so most of my books like all of Lee Child, Robert Crais, Michael Connelly, j. Kellerman, most of my non fiction, all went to Goodwill. I had a complete library from when I was a pastor (13 boxes) that I donated to St Josephs Seminary. Keeping my complete set of Dean Koontz and assorted other books so left with about 1,000.

Thank you for that link, Michael. I have many unread books here at home but I would never pass up free!

You remind me of two episodes of library downsizing which here heart-rending for my father who was also a pastor. When in 1955 we emigrated as a family from Scotland to the United States it was too costly to have his whole library to come with us. Twenty years later when he returned to Britain... the same sad story. How lucky we are now to have ebooks safe in the cloud.

I am a hoarder, too! I even keep books that I hate, hoping that maybe I will like them in a subsequent reading.

message 219: by Doseofbella (new)

Doseofbella (goodreadscomdoseofbella) | 15 comments I hoard for the most part, however I have tried to put books in a general area for other readers. Someone keeps taking them. All of them. If they are in good homes that would be fine. I just don't know. I would hate to think they are being disgarded. I adopt books to keep them in circulation. I could never throw one away...

I currently have two signed books loaned to a good friend. I have a feeling I may not get them back. She wants more, but I mention the others and she still doesn't return them. I just can't loan her more until she returns the ones she already has.

That's how I feel. I don't mind lending books but if you haven't returned the ones that I have already lent to you, you won't get any more.
