message 55: by Cambria (new)

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments Actually, it isn't JournalStone. Its a small publishing house in Louisville, KY called Otherworld Publications. I sent my ms to them last winter and they got hold of me like 2 weeks ago to offer a contract.

And Thank You.

And I think you just wrote out the new synopsis for your book!! LMAO

message 63: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Clement (jaclement) | 1328 comments Damn, all those spoilers, what was I thinking?!
heheheh

Actually I am sulking as I have just worked out that what's wrong with book 2 is....book2! So have put it to one side as I might need to jumpt to book 3 instead. What I haven't worked out yet is whether after book 3 I'll go back and stick book 2 in then or whether it's going on the "offcuts" pile - all 50k words of it....ooooyah!

But actually at least I know what the problem is now so can get on with it.

So - Book 3 - Nereia goes to down and buys handbags from Gutcci, Pravda, Eva St Laurent, and...[already has scraped barrel of fashion-based knowledge]. Damn, that's not gonna work. It might have to be the Rollllex watch after all, or maybe a Carter one.

(Something tell you I'm most comfy in Goth clothes or jeans? Fashion is something of which I am blissfully ignorant, something of a downer when making fashion-jokes!)
JAC

message 64: by Cambria (new)

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments LOL JA! Yeah, i don't think Nereia much cares about handbags either.

Are you being serious that you don't like any of book 2? that cannot be!

Just read it, J.A. My high respect for you just went ballistic -- or, in the vernacular, "Awesome!"

message 66: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Clement (jaclement) | 1328 comments Goodness! Thank you Phil!!

Cambria, it's actually very simple; I wrote it in the wrong order! Chronological you see - all the stuff that's happening elsewhere during Bk 1.

It's a fun book but here's the thing: do you want to know what happened next with Nereia or do you want to be thrown into a new place with new characters and follow the Mother down from the mountains? As a separate book that's fine but if I'm omnibussing with bk1 for the paperback it'll be just TOO many characters and too much complexity, and the feedback is that it's plenty complex enough.

Having slept on it, I think I need to swap books 2&3: finish this chunk with Nereia and leave her at a sensible stopping place in the narrative arc, and then depending on how that works, either scrap book 2 and continue from end of bk 3, or go back to book 2, explain the Mother's journey down from the mountains and take her to wherever she need to be at the time.

Will be a downer if I need to scrap it all, but then there is at least a couple of thousand words that neeed to go into the offcuts and samples file!
But it's all good really, and I feel much the better for having worked out what was getting in the way. All I have to do now is go back to bk 3, find a way to join it up, and then start on the editing all over again - and with a month less to get it all finished now!

Really doesn't seem likely it'll be done in time for Chrimbo now!
:oS

J.A. Clement (jaclement) | 1328 comments People!

I have a special Halloween blog that should have gone up on Friday but the keyboard on my laptop died. Lee Sinclair has written a special Halloween post and I'd love it to get some attention - if anyone would like to come over and comment - or to tweet / share / FB it - I'd be deeply grateful!

After all that effort, to have it go to waste because my keyboard wasn't working would be a cryinh shame....pretty please??

Thanks guys - you are stars as always....

J.A. Clement (jaclement) | 1328 comments Hey all:

This week I went a bit more general than is my wont and posted a blog on the subject of everyday heroes - those people who work hard and long to make our lives that little bit easier. They are there for us all the time but often go unnoticed and unthanked - I'd like to use this week's blog to give them a shout-out, so if you know someone like this, please add them to the list.

Is it the grandparent who looks after your kids while you're at work? The parent who keeps you fed and in clean clothes every day? The cheery guy in the coffee shop who banters you into a good mood to start work every morning?

Doesn't matter who or what, we want to know about them!

Please check out the blog and add your shout-outs... link is

Thanks guys!
JAC
