Louise Sparrow (louisex) | 304 comments I loved North and South, the adaptation perhaps more than the book :)

Wives and Daughters is very good too, the only draw back being it's one of those books whose author died before she finished it so the end is partially 'made up'

Daisy | 19 comments Pride and Prejudice (1995) is my favorite version! Everyone needs Colin Firth in their life ;) the lake scene.....!!!

North and South is another great period drama. I'm in love with Richard Armitage sooo yeah ;)

Anne Nikkanen | 28 comments North and South is a great series. Under the Greenwood Tree was good too. I also enjoyed Little Dorrit and the new Upstairs Downstairs that was just redone a few years ago. I am at a real disadvantage, living in Canada, our Netflix options stink and since we don't have cable, no Downtown Abbey for me. I can't even watch it on PBS online, it's blocked in Canada (meaning it will be shown on our version of the BBC, CBC sometime soon).

Oh how awful! No Downton? :( what a bummer. Hopefully you'll get to see it soon! It's great.

Do you have a favorite period drama?

Anne Nikkanen | 28 comments I love all the regency era dramas. I think that has the most to do with the fashions, but when push comes to shove I will always choose a medieval or earlier period drama. My degree is in history and Celtic Studies and I spent a lot of time studying pre-modern history. My absolute favourite is anything set in medieval Ireland, Scotland, England, and Wales. I started watching the Vikings series on History last spring and loved it. My husband is a Finn (not quite a Viking, but close) and originally watched it to get a better sense of Scandinavia. In Celtic studies we learn to not like the Vikings, so it was nice to see something for their perspective.
