☕️Kimberly (Caffeinated Reviewer) (kimbacaffeinate) when will we begin discussing this book, I have read it and am looking forward to chatting

message 87: by Erin (new)

Erin (erinecarroll) I think we can discuss the book on this thread at any time. We should probably just make sure to mark spoilers :). I am excited to discuss the book as well!

Oh, absolutely! Just start discussing any time you feel like it! I just looked at a set of discussion questions for the books, and like many discussion questions, they annoy me. They always seem so . . . . ponderous. . . . so I tend to not want to post them. I'd so much rather you just start posting your reactions to the book, what you liked, what you didn't, what surprised you, how you felt about it, etc. I'm about half way through the book and so far am liking it much more than I thought I would from the description of the book.

Maritza | 50 comments Everything I want to discuss includes spoilers lol

message 93: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (jmvalenski) | 13 comments I really enjoyed this whole book cover to cover! I loved the dynamics within the characters. Who were you guys able to identify with more, Merry or Lulu?

message 94: by Erin (new)

Erin (erinecarroll) I think I was more able to identify with Lulu.

message 95: by Maritza (new)

Maritza | 50 comments I can understand Lulu not wanting to have anything to do with her father...but why was she so ungrateful to the people that adopted her? This lady took her and her sister out of the miserable place they were in and gave them a good home and life. A life they probably wouldn't even had gotten from her real parents. I got the impression their mother didnt really want to be bothered by them. At times i felt bad for the father but then again, what he did was horrific...especially when he tried to kill Merry. I wish the author would have elaborated a little more on why he did that. I really loved the part when Lulu went to visit the aunt that abandoned them in the orphanage and got her mothers belongings and how that meeting ended. I enjoyed the book but would have liked a little more closure....like merry getting married, the grandaughters asking more about the grandfather and things like that.

message 96: by Tina (new)

Tina (tinaedw) | 105 comments For me this story of the two sisters and their families was one of the saddest books that I've ever read! I couldn't put it down because I eventually wanted to find out what happened with these character's lives. There was closure for me at the end, however it did make me wonder where life would continue to go for Merry & Lulu and to me that's the sign of a good book - with great characters. I do recommend reading this book!

message 97: by Bibli-ophelia (new)

Bibli-ophelia Clerico I felt as though I was trapped in a bad Lifetime movie! Too sappy and girly, but the old Jewish Grandmas had me laughing for a few pages.

This was one of those books where I felt like the author got lost somewhere along the way, didn't know how to end it, either, so had to keep writing. And I had to keep reading, hoping something would pull it all together in some satisfying way, which never happened. I was ultimately glad to just get to the end of the book. I didn't hate it, but I wouldn't recommend it either, and I didn't find it believable.

message 99: by Debra (new)

Debra I wish the author would have ended the book better. I loved the book until the end, then it fell flat.

I agree. I also loved the book and couldn't put it down but the ending just didn't sit right with me. It almost seemed rushed.
