I'm not sure if I am going to move on to Miles in Love or something else in my fairly large list of books to read.

I read Phlebas a while back and although i enjoyed the book, it was a major slog to get through and i cant ever see myself reading another of his books, particularly a Culture one.

Ooh, no don't say that! I must say I started with Consider Phlebas as well, and found that it dragged quite a bit at times, but I picked up a couple of other Culture novels and found them a lot better! Don't give up :)

I will at least try #2! Maybe in print instead of electronic, since I seem to focus better that way.

#2 The Player of Games is generally considered to be one of his best. It's also quite a bit shorter and easier to read.

I agree...good way to learn about his world and not have the story line be a distraction....
