Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments For the June PIFM challenge there is a buddy read for Nalini Singh's Slave to Sensation. So let's keep the conversation for this book for the next couple of weeks. If it continues on from there to subsequent books so be it. I'll open the conversation to one and all. I'm starting reading when I go to bed tonight and see how far I get tomorrow.

Tania | 644 comments I have it in my hot little hands and am going to attempt to not devour it all in one sitting.

Tania | 644 comments Chapter 1 - ohhhhhh good start. Strong initial characterization, not too bogged down with technical descriptions. Hot lead characters. Bet the mum's the killer...

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Page 88. Just waiting for them to figure out the dreams are 'interactive'. Like the world so far.

Tania | 644 comments Chapter 11 done. Stream of thought ahead. - really really good so far. Great characterization. Wonder if we'll learn enough about Kylie for me to mark off that name in the reading tournament? I guess having your eyes with little fireworks in them would take a lot of the guess work out of it for a guy.... She's so lonely it's heart breaking, as opposed to him being surrounded by a touchy feely pack. Interesting contrast between the emotional and the logical (otherwise shown as Kirk vs Spock).

Tania | 644 comments Okay ... I admit it. FINISHED! Whoops was too good to put down. Will discuss tomorrow...

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments all I can say, if you guys love the first one, then they just keep getting better...i'm starting book 10 tonight and can't wait!! book 4 and 7 were the weakest for me, but still good

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Well, if I didn't have a 10 hour shift at the studio, a cap put on a tooth this morning and a bunch of visitors coming this weekend for my son's graduation (which means I've been spending hours cleaning and fixing things) I would have finished too. Instead I've read the first 10 chapters. I could be surprised, but I think I know most of what will happen. However, I do like the characters and the writing. Very interesting world so far.

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments oh yeah, for you audiobook afficenado's out there - these are now being released in that format - book 1 and 2 are currently out and I think the plan is one a month until they are all caught up

I know that feeling - last night was a few hours off as a reward. I've been reading book two today as my study breaks in between writing. Why oh why did I decide it was a good idea to go back to study again...

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments I finished this morning. I like the world and I like the setup for the stories to come. I thought the dream sex was a great way to add heat and have the characters explore each other without disturbing the status quo. I have the second one already for the Nook.

message 12: by Tania (new)

Tania | 644 comments Yay! Now that you've finished my really random thoughts ahead -

I'll be surprised if the Mum turns out to be anything other than an evil b*tch.

Really great world building - gave enough detail to make the world feel real without being boring. You can tell the author had put some real thought into the world and how it works. At a guess I'd say the whole psy-net issue is more complicated than initially portrayed.

I was surprised at how easily Sascha adapted to a totally different way of living. A bit too easily really.

I thought the whole new class of psy was interesting - I'd predict that there will be a few more classes that come out of the woodwork.

Lots of intriguing secondary characters. I wonder who will be cat/wolf combo? And what would that make their children?

Hawke and Sienna definitely getting together, but I liked that the connection between them wasn't sexual (she's seventeen - that would have been a bit iich). I really want to skip to his book (which is apparently number ten - but I've been told I'm not allowed).

Where were all the humans?

Sex scenes were great and really used to further the storyline. Only thing I found annoying were the "fireworks".

Really liked the casual touching between the changelings - made an interesting juxtaposition with the psy who only touch for practical purposes.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments I agree with almost everything you said. The fireworks in her eyes were when she was experiencing her most intense emotions. I didn't have a problem with her eyes swirling with colors when she orgasmed.

I was thinking about the wolf/cat hybrid. I wonder if the children would be one or the other.

And I think dear old Mom is already an evil Beotch!

I loved the way that Sascha just came right out and told them that she was broken and the psy were going to kill her. She just accepted her fate and once she decided she was going to trust her new companions she just laid it all out on the line.

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments Lol! This is why you're not allowed to skip to the newest book. Many, if not all, of your points will be addressed book by book.

message 15: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments That's what i was thinking Penney, while reading their comments. You guys will be happily satisfy when you get to the recent release, and the world just keeps getting better, as do the relationships.

It'll be interesting to see if you guys end up liking the Shifter couples, or the Psy mix better. I can't decide because i honestly like them all so far. They each bring something interesting.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments I'm waiting for my wife to finish book two so that I can start it already.

I asked her what would the cat/wolf hybrid be like. She immediately starting singing the theme song to Nickelodian's CatDog cartoon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nOk9F...

Made me laugh.

message 17: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments wolf-cat hybrid is book 6
but there is a human/cat one before that which is interesting and a psy/psy one as well

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments Cat Dawg, Cat Dawg...

I just got #6 from a friend, I'm very excited :)

message 20: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments i think 6 is one of my fav's!

for those of you who have read more...who the heck are cooper and grace - they don't have a story right? or is it in one of the novellas...

message 21: by Tania (last edited Jun 04, 2011 03:54AM) (new)

Tania | 644 comments 6 was brilliant - Mercy and Riley are probably my favourite story so far... Then Breena and Judd...

Hawke and Sienna are the story I'm champing at the bit to read though...

I'm liking that there isn't one set couple type (i.e. psy-changeling). And that each of the couples feel differently because of their races.

message 22: by Penney (new)

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments Wait! How'd you get all the way to #6 already???
You're killing me by the way people, I have a stack of books to read before I can get to Branded by Fire.

message 23: by Vi (last edited Jun 04, 2011 06:56AM) (new)

Vi | 2794 comments Tania, you're reaading waay too fast and too soon. And this discussion is making me want to reread the whole series.

Penney, I applaud your restraint. I read all the books in the series (till book #8) at one go (much like Tania, but slower).

Dee, I don't think Cooper and Grace got a book (yet). I don't remember any of the novella involving them..

message 24: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments Vi - that's what I thought...but they were mentioned as a recent pairing in KoS, so I wanted to make sure I hadn't missed something

message 25: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments I know that Cooper is one of the SnowDancers lieutenant. I believe Grace is the sweet and submissive wolf that he is courting. Their story most likely will be told in a novella, but no word on if or when that would be.

message 26: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments someone posted on amazon, that she is working on the next book, as well as a few novellas to be released in 2013...and that cooper/grace will probably be one of them

message 27: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments I remember she mentioned in her newsletter, that she was writing the next book and a few novellas, but not that one of those novellas would be about them. I can't wait!

Tania | 644 comments Vi wrote: "Tania, you're reaading waay too fast and too soon. And this discussion is making me want to reread the whole series..."

They're not a slow read for me - in all honesty I can read one in under 3 hours. I'm writing at the moment which means I allow myself a break every hour for fifteen minutes, which I use to read. And I've read the last 5 on my sony e-reader touch - which if anything speeds up my reading. I'm trying to get my hands on the audiobooks but as usual there is the audible not releasing them in australia issue...

Taking a break from them now though. Decided to go with Nice Girls Don't have Fangs in audiobook for a change.

message 29: by Chrizette (new)

Chrizette I have read all the books and have just gotten KISS OF SNOW (Hawke and Sienna's book). I just can't wait to get reading - I have been looking forward to this book since quite a few books back :)

message 30: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments Kiss of Snow is great...I love Hawk/Sienna and NS has really upped the whole psy/changling conflict

message 31: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments Oh it was great Chriz, i love the pace in the relationship build up. Also agree with Dee that the world conflict gets even better.
