Kelleigh (goodreadscomsunshine2047) Not sure if this is urban fantasy or not - but has anyone read the Sword of Truth series?

If so, what are your thoughts? Is it worth picking up?

Thanks!

Nita (gillnit) This series is definitely not urban fantasy - it is just plain old fantasy. I have read the whole series, and enjoyed parts of it. The earlier books are better than the later for the most part. The author likes to lecture through his main character. But if you like fantasy, I say give the first one a shot.

Sondrae Bennett | 32 comments I agree with Nita about it being plain ole fantasy.

I haven't read them yet, but they've been on my TBR list ever since the TV series, Legend of the Seeker. I was so upset when it didn't renew for a third season.

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 608 comments I've got the book in my pile. And I love "plain old fantasy" far better than urban fantasy which I in general don't care for (exceptions of course).

Hhmmm... Could your exceptions have anything to do with MI??? lol

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 608 comments Definitely, Jeanine.

Cee | 82 comments Basically the Sword of Truth series is epic fantasy with epically large books. I actually enjoyed the series a lot, but be prepared to read very long and at times slow books (:

Vanessa (aurorapixi) | 187 comments A bit off topic, but what is the difference between 'plain ole fantasy' and urban fantasy? Also what about Epic fantasy? There are so many different types of fantasy it makes my head spin. I've looked it up before but kind of just end up confused ^_^

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 608 comments Wiki explained Urban fantasy better than anything else I have found. #1 it takes place in a city! Could be in the future, the past, in a make believe world but it is in a city. Obviously there is some supernatural element in it or it would not be fantasy. I asked what urban fantasy was once or twice and the results were so varied and confusing I gave up. Basically, it takes place in a city hence the word "urban". LOL

Vanessa (aurorapixi) | 187 comments Thanks =) So a plain fantasy would just be not in a city then? Like Lord of the Rings?

message 11: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) Hmmm, I guess I have always consider a book that takes in another made up world, no matter if it takes place in a rural or urban setting, as fantasy, never urban fantasy. Urban fantasy, to me, takes place in an urban setting in our own world in either the past, present, or future.

But that is probably why you gave up on a definition Terry; people's definitions are varied.

Vanessa (aurorapixi) | 187 comments Too many different sub-genres ^_^ I have yet to find one I don't like though, hehe.
