Robin probably, allan.

✨ABookGirl✨memoirs are my jam✨ I absolutely loved this book! Probably going down as a favorite. I think the most important relationship in the book was between Mae Mobley and Aibeleen. It was so heartbreaking to see how Mae Mobley's own mother treated her and so inspirational how much Aibeleen loved her (even though she as not her child). It was hard to realize that although Aibeleen tried so hard to raise Mae Mobley open-minded, deep down she knew Mae Mobley would be just like her mother. But, in my opinion Aibeleen reached through to Mae Mobbley. A more important and less obvious lesson in the book is to have courage to defend yourself and you beliefs. Mrs. Leefolt was such a coward to run around seeking approval from Hilly instead of her own children.

Jane This is one of my top ten favorite books I've read over the past couple of years.

Mark I suspect Hilly does not change. When she says that "there are some racist people in town," she says it without irony but in a way that shows us that she is too much a part of the culture to have that kind of insight into herself. She cannot stand as an outsider and look in to see how ingrained racism is in that culture.

Jerri Hilly most likely remained the same ignorant person for the remainder of her life.

Marie I'd like to think that Hilly learns from her mistakes as a follow up to the story and that she begins to learn cultural sensitivity and what it means to treat others humanely but her character was so far gone she probably became even more hardened, bitter and detached... corrupting others with her poisonous beliefs and views.

ROBYN MARKOW I think she becomes a respected Journalist who is v.active in the Civil Rights Movement. She does eventually marry & have a child but it ends in divorce. When she's older, she rights a book about growing up in the South & it's shortlisted for the Booker Prize. Also, she becomes a part in the Woman's Movement in the 1970's.

I think that you are confusing Eugenia (Skeeter) with Hilly.

ROBYN MARKOW Opps! A.D.D Strikes again. Hilly? Well, perhaps she does change for the better (or gets worse.) At any rate,I don't think she eats anything w/chocolate in it for the rest of her days. I picture her perhaps getting Cancer(good old Karma;-) & on her deathbed she apologizes for being such a Major Bitch.

Bonnie Carruth My book club read the book several months ago. The night we discussed the book was my turn to provide dessert so of course I went to the store to find a chocolate pie. I was taking a chocolate pie out of the freezer when a woman next to me said "oh those are good but the lemon is better." I replied " okay but my book club is reading THE HELP and...." She said "Oh yes I read the book." At which point we started giggling as other shoppers walked past us in the aisle looking at the two women laughing hysterically with tears running down their faces. One or two asked us if we were all right, at the mention of THE HELP and a glance at the chocolate pie they walked off smiling.

Maria Ciubotaru I love the book. I finished it two nights ago and now I feel a bit "empty". I felt moved by the author's confession at the end of the book, about Demetrie. This book was written from a place of love and respect. It's crazy though, to think that these mentalities comes only from such a recent past - 1960s.

I also loved the author's writing style. Descriptive and full of flavour.

Maria Ciubotaru I read this book on a Kindle, so I have highlighted a lot of words. Lucky the virtual dictionary was only a touch away. It would have been hard to flip through the pages of an actual one, as I had to stop and get an explanations 2-3 times on a page.

The Hillys of the world seem to fare well, they have worked to that end all their lives and they don't usually ever see themselves as having done wrong.

Ana Sofía I'm guessing Hilly got so humiliated that she moved up north where there were not as many Negroes to make fun of her...XD
Loved this book!
