John Braine (trontsephore) I've been away recently, and just started a new job, so I missed the intro to this topic. Was funny seeing these introductions arriving in my inbox, they seemed pretty random.

I'm 38, married, 3 kids. How the hell did that happen? Last decade has been a bit of a blur. I'm from Dublin. Still here. Would be somewhere warmer and cheaper if I didn't have so many ties here.

I'm a UX designer, which is like a web designer. Have been addicted to the web for years. And have been on forums like this for eons. I spend way too much time online between blogs, facebook, twitter and forums.

I read anything that is well recommended, though I avoid sport, war, politics and the classics. And more recently thrillers. My favourite kind of novels tend to be dark and grim (like Blood Meridian), or even better darkly comic (like the Wasp Factory). I like non fiction too but haven't read so many since I've got into audiobooks.

s e n t i m e n t a l i t i e s olittlebear (olittlebear) Lol. I like how you set up a homepage so people can follow you anywhere you blog. :p

So was it the new job that took you away from goodreads ?

John Braine (trontsephore) Was the holiday at first... but trying to be a good boy in new job as well.

message 4: by Paul (new)

Paul (taytothief) Another Cormac McCarthy fan. I loved The Road, have you read it? Looking forward to getting around to the Border Trilogy, have them sitting on my shelf for ages :/

John Braine (trontsephore) Vicky: the boys are 1-and-a-half, and 7, and Daddie's little girl is almost 3.

Paul yeah I read the Road first. Great alright. And then Blood Meridian, which I think is almost in a league of it's own. I couldn't get into All The Pretty Horses, and shelved it. I was just reading a bit every night though. Didn't really give it a proper chance. But am eager to try some of his others.

s e n t i m e n t a l i t i e s olittlebear (olittlebear) So we know what your new job is, what was the old one ?

message 7: by John (new)

John Braine (trontsephore) Apart from the company I work for, it's pretty much the same as the old one!

s e n t i m e n t a l i t i e s olittlebear (olittlebear) Oooh. Did they steal you with the offer of a bigger paycheck, or simply get hit by the recession cutbacks ?

John Braine (trontsephore) They stole me with the novel idea of paying me on time and in full at the end of each month, rather than not knowing if/when I will be getting paid, begging for money all the time, and slowly getting into such arrears that I'm still owed a few months wages when I left!

Sure am glad that's over. Pay day will be glorious. Haven't had a proper pay day in years.
