Only Dory could have done what Mircea asked, his goal wasn't to kill Dracula but to trap him, being an even worse fate according to him. Anyone who didn't belong to his family would just..."
Yes, I can see how Dory may have been the only one willing to trap Drac instead of just killing him, but that almost makes it worse, in my opinion. That really was an impossible task he gave her, and he could have lost his only child just to fulfill his idea of the worst fate he could give Drac. Does the book ever tell us why Mircea didn't just go after Drac himself the first time to trap him? (I think all this stuff is very early in MD, so hopefully I'm not spoiling it for Ashleigh!)
I also am willing to admit that I may have been biased against Mircea from the start because I read the Dory books before the Cassie ones. So I started with the idea of him as a father type, and then when he's the love interest in the Cassie books... it's like I never outgrew that phase of adolescence where you're slightly freaked out at the idea of people your parents' ages having love affairs!

ROTFL, nicely put. ;-)
I think the problem with Mircea and Dory is that he realizes that she's different from the rest of the family, quite independent. He's used to his family listening to him no matter what because of the nature of the bond, and he sort of, requires the same from Dory, knowing very well she might not obey. That makes him secretive in regards to telling Cassie the truth. He's afraid that some things of the past might emerge and that he won't be able to control what is said and what is not. That might undermine his position in general, and may just as well completely trash his relationship with Cassie. After all, we know that you don't became a Senate member just by being nice, and lucky. He must have some serious bodies in his closet. No matter what his past is, how devastating it had been, these untold stories might pretty much destroy our current perception of Mircea Basarab - the great diplomat with a difficult family ties.

That's quite ironic, in fact. He's willing to avenge Dory's mother WHILE risking Dory's life.

! How could such an important (ie watched), honorable, busy, high-standing individual be bothered to do the work himself? ^^(Unless forced, that is.)

Looking forward to it, aren't you?^^

trust me i know prit anit perfect but i still love him more :P
Sarah wrote: "Ashleigh, I hope you'll enjoy Dory's story. But hey, no bashing for my Micea! :-P"
i'll try not to do to much mircea bashing :D hehe and i did really enjoy the book - dory was great, i LOVED stinky XD
i dont know if i like mircea more or less after this book. Louis-Cesare eyes turned silver in this book when he was feeling strong emotions i dont ever recall mircea doing that to cassie so im feeling less reassured about his feelings towards her.
also mircea didnt seem to have a problem about risking dory's life to go after his completely crazy brother even though he claims she is his most precious gift, but he practicably wont even let cassie out of the room if he can help it.
i feel like he thinks of her as a prize more now than i did before
i still think mircea's a douche, maybe even more now than before but now im completely confused about how i feel about him and if he truly feels for cassie.
but i do understand now why he hasnt introduced cassie and dory but i think he should do it really quickly before cassie finds out all on her own otherwise he's going to end up missing his "goods" lol
i loved how radu grew some man parts and came to dorys rescue just before she got munched on by an evil vamp, that was totally unexpected but lovely :)
radu was an excellent character and an insane weirdo :P i loved how he completely offended ppl but got away with it cause he didnt think he was doing it and his reaction to dory blowing up his wine cellar was classic - one of the best parts in the book :)

Oh, Mircea's eyes turn gold all the time when Cassie's around, she doesn't even find it creepy anymore...

Agreed^^. The guy really needs to get his priorities straight.
But then Cassie didn't try to kill Mircea the first time they met. So he thinks she can't defend herself physically, and needs to be buried under the bodyguards.
I always believed he loves Cassie, only I don't like his way of showing it.

and he totally has to straighten out his priorities :P

However thick the veneer of civilization, I think the mentality they usually adopt is related to the century they died in. Vampire are a relatively secluded lot.
Pritkin may have evolved because he had to to fit in....with mages normally living around 200 years old.

And we even came up with Princess Toesocks for him... ;-P

i just started reading "Death's Mistress" and was thinking that dory has a few "friends" in faerie and cassie seems to need to go there in the next book she could meet claire there or somehow meet dory and ask for their assistants, i havent read the whole book yet so i could be wrong but it just an idea, what do you guys think??

If I remember right Pritkin's mom died in childbirth. Wasn't she part human/mage and fey? What about her family? I'm sure she must have had some kin that would like a little revenge on Rosier.
Karen made this statement in an interview and I had a question:

"I can say that I think Hunt the Moon does for the series’ character development what Curse the Dawn did for its world building. You don’t learn all of everyone’s secrets (or there’d be no need for more books!) But you do get the pivotal moment in each of the three main characters’ pasts that made them the way they are today. "
I get what the pivotal moment was for Pritkin, but what about Cassie and Mircea? What is the pivotal moment in their pasts?

Cassie... dunno exactly, they did reveal more of what it was like for her at Tony's court.

I agree with Sandra for Mircea; his family's death AND the Change... can't get more definitive than that...
For Cassie....her birth?^^
Seriously.
The moment when her lineage was revealed was like she was reborn. Either that or when Mircea pulled her out of her vision at Tony's, when she was 11.

i was just reading Death's Mistress and i cant believe (view spoiler) no offence mircea fans, lol but you have to admit thats seems pretty bad if cassie finds out she'll be sh*ting kittens for a week, lol.

Cassie grew up with vamps so their laws/rules/behaviors are second nature to her. She knows what to expect out of a vampire. Mircea's half truths, lies, and him taking advantage of the situation is what she would expect from a vamp and she doesn't see it as wrong. It doesn't mean that she likes it just that she wouldn't expect anything different from a vampire.

Mircea is someone she has had a crush on since she was 11. I think he is still that dream figure and time will show her who the real man is beneath. We'll just have to see if he lives up to her dream.

i totally agree but i dont think he'll live up to her "Dream man" even though the bar isnt set very high

but he usually gets his vamps to do it, he doesnt even do it himself
but she believes him of cheating and she knows he lies and twist thing to get his way and might be only "dating" her because of her power - yet she's still with him
if he was anyone else she wouldnt put up with all that - so for him the bar isnt set high, lol

and he's constantly pickin up "Hotties" i wish my life went a bit like that :P
(but with men not chicks)
lol

She could get those "needs" fulfilled by our man pritkin :D
He dosent have the hair though

i wonder if he puts that gel crap in it just to tick of cassie, it sounds like something prit would do,lol.

im going to go insane waiting :P
