Hunt the Moon (Cassandra Palmer #5)

First of all, this book was amazing, however there are some bad points in my opinion. Sinc..."
"Anybody else get a sense of dejavu when witnessing cassies mum and her mage? I was screaming in my head at cassie for not recognising that he was her father, I mean hello? but at the same time I was laughing at the crazy antics were so familiar with frim cassie and pritkin becoming evident in her mother and father.. and i loved it to no end. It gave me a sense of hope and a feeling of "fate" about her and pritkin. FYI Cassies mum kicks ass! and the goddess thing didnt bother me, I was getting rather tired of the spartoi and Loki and whatnot but the way Jonas was going on and on about it gave me a lot of laugh out loud moments."
I too felt the "fate" connection. i also agree on the facepalm moment of her taking forever to figure out the mage was her father--I got it right away.
I kept waiting for the trip to Faerie as well, and am waiting anxiously to see how Shadowland changes from the original, which I have a copy of. To be honest though, I would give anything for ANY new short, Pritkin or not. (Pritkin is still prefered.)

I would have loved to have had some info on what the senates were saying while the fight was taking place. I bet a few had their jaw hanging down.
How many of you want to see Cassie meet Dori?

Midnight's Daughter Spoiler ahead: (view spoiler)

I love the revelation about Cassie's parents, when I read that scene I flashed on her memory of him tossing her in the air and laughing. It seems more fitting.
On another note does anyone else think that some of the other demigods will join her side (other than the Graea)?

2) Didn't really change my mind, but confirmed my suspicions about Mircea. Despite the fact that his reason is understandable - his parents' deaths made him uber-protective - his form of protection is very condescending. Putting her on house arrest? Telling her she can't see one of her best friends? And because Cassie sees him partly as a father figure, she puts up with that controlling crap. I really hoped she would put her foot down when she compared her situation to being back at Tony's court...
3) Things I want to know: what will happen to Pritkin?!? I hate cliffhangers! Also, I wonder what the fallout will be since apparently the vamps saw "Mircea's wife" making out with the mage, as Marco put it.

Yeah when he came to sit beside her on the steps I was picturing a big dramatic tell-off (although not angry or mean, just resigned) and her saying good-bye and than just shifting away! BUT instead they get sucked back in time again and never even really get to deal with the issue. ARG!

Part of what I love and hate about this series is the constant swapping in my mind which man I want Cassie to end up with. Pritkin has pushed towards the lead more an more with each book. Cassie is like a beautiful butterfly...she's wild and can't be tamed. She deserves and yearns to be free but needs somewhere to land that's safe.
Mircea loves her, without a doubt in my mind, but he wants to put her in a glass jar and pull her out when he needs her. I also suspect he has more of a fatherly affection towards her at times. Even though they make love, I don't think he's realized she's an adult except in body. He still treats her like the 11 yr old.
Pritkin has ALWAYS wanted her to be free but wanted her to learn to fend for herself. Even when he'd tell her he didn't think she should do this or that and she didn't listen, he was there with her, following her lead, allowing her to do her job and protecting her. He never "ordered" her to do anything unless he was ordering her to leave him behind so she wouldn't sacrifice herself for him. That is only because he has always valued her life more than his. Mircea has protected her....Pritkin has SAVED her. Pritkin has went through so many more battles and worse ones with Cassie, but still he doesn't let his fear for her well being give him reason to lock her up into a nice safe place. He just steps up his game as a protector.
Mircea has went through some battles yes, but he was wanting to lock her up long before the worse ones. Pritkin gives her everything...what she needs to live, be free, be herself and do her job....if given the chance he could give her soooo much more as we've seen in this last book.
She loves him and I believe if it came down to saving Pritkin or Mircea, she'll choose Pritkin. She knows he offers everything, with no strings attached and with complete loyalty...that's love. Mircea will always be torn between loyalties with her and the senate...that's politics.

i cant wait till i read about mircea reaction about that nxt time he talk's to cassie and what she'll say in return, like she was NAKED and on top of pritkin in mircea's yard!! - hahaha

i think what you said describes the situation perfectly!! and i totally agree with everything you wrote except if she had to choose between saving pritkin and mircea i have no idea what she would do.

I know it sounds bad, but if Pritkin is killed off somehow, I don't know if I could continue with the books. My heart is breaking as is with this cliff hanger, but at least he's still alive! I tend to get attached to characters and he's proven worthy of my loyalty and devotion..(and yes, even love. ;)) I'd be completely devastated. But that's how you know the author has done an amazing job, when your emotions are involved with a character on a page even after the book has been closed.
Also...I've been reading comments on how Pritkin might be saved from his father/prison. I have various thoughts on that. lol Here we go!
Rosier is an incubus, which are sexual demons. Karen Chance's females are sexually empowered. Cassie and ESPECIALLY Dori are very sexual characters. Even when they are being held against their will and something sexual is being done, you don't view them as victims of rape(this is mostly Dori) you see them as women with amazing sexual power that drives the most evil insane with lust...At least I do...and it has always in the end been the villain's achilles heel to help defeat them. So getting back to Cassie & Rosier. This could go in several ways, but in the end, I think it will somehow be centered around sexual energy.
1. Cassie offering her body up to Rosier in return for Pritkin. I get a vibe that Rosier is envious of Pritkin and Cassie's love/loyalty to eachother in some way. So he might try getting a piece of the pie so to speak, but not to kill like before.
2. Cassie and Pritkin have to make love in front of Rosier/everyone. Awkward, but I can definitely see this as something Rosier would force them to do for his own sick pleasure. Add in it would be Cassie and Pritkin's official first time together...that would make it heart wrenching and breath taking all in one.
3. Cassie and Pritkin have to marry. Rosier is also about power. Having a Pythia in the demon family would be a great power move!
4. As someone else mentioned, the rune. But I think this is too simple. Rosier needs a heartbreaking condition on top of it, so it may still include one of the 3 above or something else. I think Cassie getting the rune back isn't hard enough. I think there will be a serious emotion sacrifice and getting/delivering a rune wouldn't really provide that.
I believe deep down Rosier does love Pritkin and I think we'll see that side of him by books end, but in meantime we'll see the sadistic side we've seen in past. I don't think he'll be killed, least of all by Cassie. Even though Pritkin says he hates his father, I think there is still an underlying bond there and for her to kill him will put a strain on her and his relationship. So if anyone is to kill him, it will have to be Pritkin or Rosier pull a self sacrifice in the name of love for his son. But again, who knows! But it's sure fun trying to guess! lol
**Sorry for the "books", I know I type a lot, but it's hard for me to simplify my thoughts sometimes. :S **

I think Cassie is going to Faerie first, since that is where "Hel" is imprisoned. Once released doesn't ..."
I think she'll go get Pritkin first. If at very least to find out what Rosier wants for him in exchange. K.C. has been slowly weaning us off of Mircea as the only man in contention for Cassie's heart and bringing Pritkin into the leading love role with each book. I think it would be a VERY bad move to limit Pritkin's involvement in any of the books. People are too emotionally invested in him at this point. So she'll have to at least have him coming to her in a psychic connection of some sort, in dreams, etc. (I dare to say something like what was done in the Twilight series. Eeep!) It would be even better if they were sexual dreams. lol It would help keep Pritkin in the running for her heart if he's still there in some way. I mention the sex dreams because if you look back on this book, Mircea was teamed up with Cassie the most...Pritkin wasn't in it that much. But when he was!!...Boy oh boy were those moments memorable! So readers didn't feel deprived whether they be Mircea fans or Pritkin fans. We all got our fix and we all had the chance to interpret as we liked.
ETA: I know some are hardcore Mircea fans, so when I say "weaning us off" him, it's the way their sexual scenes were written.
Take notice of the differences:
The scene where Cassie and Mircea have sex back in time. What was the moment that led up to it? Total and complete humiliation with her walking out of bathroom naked in front of servants. We carried that emotion even when we were "experiencing" the passionate moments.
The scene in the car with Pritkin. Our hearts were pounding and adrenaline pumping...then mind blowing orgasm.*sigh*
Those emotions/moments leading up to the sex scenes were intentional. They say more than any sex scene ever will. In this book we are supposed to be "comfortable" with Mircea...but "crazy" for Pritkin. :)

Robin, I have to agree with you'll idea about #3. That was right along with my thoughts too. HtM gave us a lot of background into Pritkin this time and made it very clear that children, power/strength, and social power were what were most important to Rosier. I can see him thinking that a mating between Pritkin and Cassie would serve him well. I can also see him demanding that they agree to give him their first born for him to release Pritkin.
I also agree with your view of the emotional state of the sex scenes and how they differ between Mircea/Cassie and Pritkin/Cassie. I went into HtM wanting her to be with Mircea but by the end of it I can't make up my mind which I like better.

I have to be honest, though. Sometimes Cassie seems really shallow and I wonder if she DESERVES him. I mean, the guy pulled a Dean Winchester for her, she owes him 100% of her time in saving him. He said himself he would rather die than go back to his father's court, and he did just that. The scene in the pizza place was great, but it sort of bugged me. She kept describing how he isn't traditionally attractive (he's too short, his features aren't proportional enough, blah blah) and I'm thinking : "Jesus Christ, Cassie. Does a guy have to look PERFECT to be with you?" She finally admitted his sexiness at the end, but she does seem to have a selective memory; she could totally forget about saying that the next time Mircea locks her in her room for luuuvv.
I do like the idea of them having at least a psychic connection while she tries to save him (and sexy dreams would be nice!!!) but you're right, she needs to avoid making it too much like Twilight. That would make me barf.

im not sure if ai agree about choice 3 but the others sound like something karen would do.
like if rosier got a child or something out of choice 3 then yes but what does he get out of them just being married?? and would something bad happened if they cheated on each other??

I've also been wondering if Cassie got her connection to ghosts from her mother and not her father like we were told. The information given about her parents previous to Hunt the Moon has proven unreliable. She was told her parents had known each other for only a week when in fact they had been in communication for over a decade. There is no way to know how much information known about her parents was part of their own plan to hide their identities.
The letters found in her mother's suitcase state that she somehow merged her soul with Ragnar/Roger's, so even if he did have power over spirits it could come from this merging.
In Norse mythology, Hel is said to control the spirits of the dead, but only those who died of sickness, corruption, or old age. Those who die in battle are said to go to Valahalla or Sessrúmnir. If Cassie's connection to ghosts was inherited from her mother, this could explain (leaving room for artistic liberties) why Cassie only sees the ghosts of humans and not those of non-humans. It's possible that the spirits of non-humans fall under the jurisdiction of another deity.

That being said, in all fairness to Cassie...I think she's trying to convince herself she shouldn't think he's attractive by pointing out all his flaws, yet the truth is too hard to fight...she finds him sexy.
Mircea is perfect in the looks department as all the descriptions have insinuated, so WHY when she has perfection would she want someone who isn't? That's the battle I think is going on in her mind. The admittance of finding him attractive despite the "big nose" etc, just verifies her attraction goes beyond just the incubus thing/emergency sex sessions. lol
I agree...reading her thoughts on paper make her seem so shallow, but yet I think it is a normal human reaction under her circumstances. I think it's another hint that her feelings for Pritkin go deeper than they do for Mircea. She's always talking about Mircea's good looks, beautiful hair, etc,..that is only surface beauty. With Pritkin she's admitting what he is on the outside isn't perfect...yet here she is, enjoying those kisses, enjoying those moments with him.
So although I do think she's appearing shallow I think her inner battle between the 2 men shows she's not shallow at all, or else there wouldn't be a choice to make. She'd go with perfection...Mircea.

you have any idea why there are no ghost in faerie??"
I don't know. All I can remember about that is in TtD Radella said that some spirits manifest in Faerie in a physical form. Niall said that Earth is one of the upper hells, so maybe there are no spirits there because they can only exist in spirit form in a hell dimension. And if it's true that non-humans do leave spirits and Cassie just can't see them, the Fey would fall under that category.

BTW...just want to thank Enjee for inviting me here! I've been driving hubby nuts talking about this and he has no freaking clue, nor desire to know what I'm talking about! lol It's seriously driving me bonkers though! This is the first book I've ever read that has a "real" cliff hanger! Aaaaah!!!!

The way she goes on about his looks doesn't bother me. It makes me think of men I've met before that upon first inspection weren't physically attractive to me, but after getting to know them, their personalities transform the way I perceive them.
In a way, it gives me hope for their relationship. She's not drooling over him because he's physically perfect, but becoming attracted to him because of who he is.
So, I agree with you that her critique of his looks may appear shallow on the surface, but really it's just showing us that their relationship is deeper than the physical.

lol i totally agree with you. if she gets married to pritkin she'll have 2 husbands - could get very complicated!!

I just finished the book and WOW! I loved it! I still have to process everything and think about it... But it was so good, I can't wait for the next!
To get my thoughts straight, I think I'll start with answering Enjee's questions.
1) What is your favorite scene, revelation, quote, tidbit?
I loved the scene with the PR mage, the sex scene with Mircea and when he told her about his parents. And Cassie's mother. I was like "WTF?!?!" but in a good way.
2) Did HtM change your mind about anyone?
Not really. Well, I really like Marco.
3) What did you really really want to know that was NOT disclosed in HtM?
I finally want Cassie to meet Dory.

A big thing for many seems to be who Cassie will end up with in the end. I have to admit that it's not one of my main concerns.
I love both Mircea and Pritkin, well Mircea more! *sighs* The interactions Cassie has with both of them are intriguing and hot and I love reading about them.
To me the thing between Mircea and Cassie is... not really creepy but... It irritates me that he was "uncle Mircea" and it was mentioned how she still was treated/seen as a kid. I sometimes have difficulties seeing them as a couple. I know they have sex and all but I don't think they are really in love. He is gorgeous, no doubt, but like Cassie says he makes her feel safe. I guess this is more it.
I think Pritkin could be the real thing, her real love. I like it that the attraction between them slowly develops and, like someone said, she loves (or starts to love) him for who he is. I also love that he doesn't lock her away to protect her but that he shows her how to protect herself.
So although I like Mircea more, I think Pritkin would be the better and right choice in the end.
BUT... And I know objects will be thrown at me for this... I want her to end up with none of both! I know for most Cassie having a HEA, being happy with one of the men has to be part of a happy ending. But I want a surprise and to me the biggest surprise would be Cassie without a HEA.
I still have to ponder about this some more but I'd like the two men to help her become a strong woman and to be able to deal with her new role as Pythia. But that in the end she can do this alone. At the moment I'd love if she and Mircea realize that they don't share the love necessary to maintain a relationship. And that she'll be together with Prikin but he dies in the end. Yeah, I know... Throw your rotten tomatoes at me! LOL I want some real drama in the end!
But like I said, I need to think about all this some more! And who knows, maybe the next books will change my mind.

I dunno about marriage, but definitely some sort of power bonding thing, because that was why he wanted Pritkin back in the first place. I don't think he'll give him up just a one-time sex show, no matter how humiliating or how much power he gets. He's immortal and he'll be thinking long term.
It'd be nice to think he loved Pritkin, but I'm not convinced. He doesn't want him to die because he can use him, but unfortunately I haven't seen anything to indicate an emotional attachment.
Robin wrote: "K.C. has been slowly weaning us off of Mircea as the only man in contention for Cassie's heart and bringing Pritkin into the leading love role with each book."
I agree, even the sex scene itself just didn't really do anything for me this time, whereas the Pritkin scene... DAAAAMN!

haha just doing what you told us to do, but seriously you dont want a happy ending?? i love happy endings!
i think i would be devastated if one of the main characters died, i know it would be a shock and major surprise but i prefer when they stay alive!!
you should read

i cried reading that book, so its plenty dramatic!! lol

Everybody says that Pritkin is not good looking according to Cassie. If I were a half incubi prohibited to feed myself....I would not make myself too desirable in the look department but more recognized for my fighting skills.
If you recall when Rosier appeared to Cassie in book 3...she though `Pritkin`quite desirable because he had acquired a sense of style. She even once said that when Pritkin does not style his hair....he looks better.
Maybe Cassie commenting how Pritkin in not being a classical beauty is her way of squashing her budding interest in him `cause she`s married to Mircea?

I'd be ok with that as long as she finds Pritkin afterward. They can go live in his cottage and have dozens of little Pritkin babies without having to worry about the fate of the world so much.
I wish I could go live in his cottage and have dozens of little Prikin babies...

The thing about Pritkins descriptions by Cassie - I really love how she sees him. I love the way she describes his big nose, green eyes, small slash across his face for a mouth - and I definately love the way she describes him when hes utterly pissed! I find it extremely refreshing that hes not perfect, he has all these quirks she picks up on because she just takes THAT much notice. With Mircea its all perfect hair, perfect body, perfect face.. even perfect clothes! I mean boring much? she doesnt really find any deterrmining (i dont think this is the right word ;/) feature for Mircea, just that he's supposedly utterly perfect. Pritkin however has a lot of features which determine him, and i love that she keeps pointing it out - it shows me, and us that shes taking THAT much notice of him, and comparing it to situations where hes aroused, pissed, angry, scared.. I just love it! It makes me love Pritkin more and more =D
I just had to get that in there - I dont have time to read every comment cos I have no internet =( its excruciating typing this out on my phone - believe me! so im sorry for any silly errors lol
YAY team Pritkin :P

Someone hand me tomatoes! LMAO!!! Just kidding! lol But I would be seriously devastated if that happened! I know it's cliche' but I personally, REALLY NEED those happy endings. Life is depressing enough as is without my fantasy world being tainted with evil too. Know what I mean? When I first read the part about him giving her his power and her sitting up and he was gone, I thought he'd died so I immediately flipped back to the beginning of the fight to reread before going into a full blown panic! My heart is still aching but I also know he's alive so it's ok. But if he died...I don't know if I could forgive the author for that. lol Tear my heart out with near death experiences, but don't take them away completely! :(
"Gone With The Wind" is my favorite movie of all time...and even though Scarlett doesn't end up with him by the movie's ending, her last lines let you know she'll have him soon even if she has to drag him back to her house and tie him up. lol But we also know he loves her with his entire being as well, he's just waiting for her to need him as much. So you're left with that sadness of them not being together at end of movie, but more filled with hope and promise that they will still end up together in "life". THAT I can handle. Death is too permanent...that's just too real for me...and I disappear into my books so I don't have to face that reality. In 5th grade I read "Where the Red Fern Grows"...amazing book...but I'm 37 now and that pain still sits there like a rock. I get emotionally invested in my characters big time.

I thought about that too...but Cassie seemed somewhat repulsed by the idea of Agnes taking Myra's body over(this is before she knew she was doing it to kill her off) so if she didn't like the idea of a good person using her enemy's body...I don't think she'd be able to take over someone else's. But she's grown a lot since then, so possibly. But as you said, if she does...we want her happy ever after in Pritkin's cottage. lmao

Anyway, as far as Pritkin's damnation goes, I got really excited about Cassie's divine heritage. Much of Rosier's motivation for maintaining a tight leash on Pritkin (and confining him to hell) seems to be fueled by Rosier's desire for Pritkin to breed with a powerful female and sire a grandchild that will boost Rosier's standing among other demons. I mean, shouldn't Cassie's newly discovered status as a Goddess/demigod + Pythia be enough for Rosier to decide she's a suitable 'broodmare' to Pritkin's 'stud'? So perhaps Rosier will release Pritkin under the agreement that he'll mate with Cassie! Oh, what sweet tension....
My questions--
1) What sort of being is Cassie's father, Ragnar (and why is his name so similar to Ragnarok?)? Jonas says, "[Artemis] is protected by a fierce guard dog named Garm" and Niall says "Garm was Hel's faithful companion in all the old sagas" and "'Garm' in Old Norse is 'Rag'" and "'Ragnar' means 'warrior of the gods' in Old Norse". So... her father does not appear to be human. What is he? If he is a full god like Artemis, does this mean that Cassie is a full goddess (like the newspaper reports at the end) rather than a demigod?
2) Furthermore, since she is a demigod or goddess, does this mean her lifespan is prolonged like Pritkin's & Mircea's? Pretty please?
3) Is Artemis's soul in Tony's paperweight along with Ragnar's, since Artemis somehow bound their souls together?

Since her father's soul was trapped, I figured when she finds the paperweight and lets him out we will have some interesting interactions with her and her long-lost fathers ghost. Artemis did bind their souls, but I think that just means they are connected and therefor a 'part' of her is still with him. But I don't think that means we will get to see her ghost or anything like we will with her Dad.

Krazy_KD

As for the skimming...I did when it came to the extensive history lessons. The books before this one I was really bad about it, because the author seemed to go into more detail in those more than this one, but I still found things going way into depth at points in this one too. I don't have the attention for things I consider non essential. When I reread it I'll pay attention then since it will be "new". lol
You're close about the senate not helping because of a spell. For the coronation as protection they placed a "lock down" so nobody could get in or out.

Oh, and he needs to stay away from my feet, too. Weirdo. :P

I thought the same thing until you posted, then I analyzed it a bit more and had that "ah ha!" moment. lol

Krazy_KD

Does this make our Cassie a bit of a polygamist?!

Oh, and he needs to stay away from my feet, too. Weirdo. :P"
OMG! I know right! I seriously freak if I have my toes licked...like running around desperately trying to get the slobbers off as soon as possible freaked! So when I read that I literally cringed inside.

And yeah, their power exchange was totally for her benefit! He knew what would happen if they did it, and he did it anyway to save her life.
