LMAO!! Hey it's fine if people don't like these books. It's all the more luscious lion for me! :D

I kinda think I might like to get caught ...!! :D
Zeenat/Somnium, about Mircea, I did like him in Touch the Dark, though I thought the same as Somnium, that maybe Tomas was going to be the third in the love triangle and that she might end up with him. Well, until the end of the book when he turned into a traitor! Mircea getting entangled in the geis did feel a bit like poetic justice, since he shouldn't have set it in the first place.
The more I read the books, the more strongly I felt that Mircea was totally the wrong guy for Cassie (or for any non-vamp). He can be so sweet and caring, and he's gorgeous and sexy, that it's so easy to overlook how utterly controlling he is and every now and then, I find myself getting quite appalled at the things he does. And yet I still really like him! How can this be? *scratches head*
:D
I might submit a question to KC about whether there's any hope of ever getting a BJ short.

*clears throat* And me!!! :-P

That's because he's awesome!!! I fell in love with Mircea in the first book. I know he can be a manipulative ass but I can't help it. I like Pritkin and he nearly was up there with Mircea when I read the fourth book but HtM made me realize Mircea is defo my #1 in the Cassie universe.

I really wondered for a moment why you want an extra blowjob short. LMAO

What was the name of the guy in the tatoo shop who got killed in faerie? I was really sad he got killed. He seemed really interesting. A short with him would be good-he also seemed to know Pritkin well, which is a bonus .

Zeenat wrote: "Mircea is a good, "boyfriend for now". I wouldn't want anything long term. Plus he oozes sexuality."
I second that. I love Mircea, even though he can be a seriously controlling, manipulate bastard, but I can't really see it working out long term. I reckon Cassie will probably end up developing more independence as the series progress, and, much as I wish it didn't, that probably involves not being with Mircea.
And Samara, you hated Marco in the fourth book? Why? I love Marco. Although I'm never too sure how much he really cares about Cassie and how much he's playing her, after Billy Joe made that comment about how they all look at Cassie. Like 'here comes dinner'. That really creeped me out a bit.

I have to agree!
I have nothing against Mircea, and adore him as a character, but he's just waaay too controlling for anything long term! Plus he sealed his fate with me with the whole Geis thing! He should have trusted that he wouldn't need it... instead he went and used magic to make sure she picked him or someone of his line.... Big No No for me!! Served him right the damn thing back fired! Plus his behaviour (past self or not) once he knew he wasn't in control anymore...
I wanted to put my chunky boot up his ass!! (GRR)
Pritkin pretty much resigned himslef to the fact that Cassie does what she wants, and simply makes sure he's there to keep things from getting too messy...well relatively speaking...LOL
They have developed a much deeper relationship, which is much better for the long haul!! :D

LOL - Somnium - Aaawwww .... You're a softy!
I gave a Humph and a nod, and "he deserved that!"
and then I moved on and didn't think about it much more...LOL
(then again, I'm also not the forgiving type...so....maybe that's just me:D )

And I think we'll get Shadowland before Masks comes out. It's going to be a while. Not that I'm complaining. I'm just glad she's doing these shorts at all.

About Mircea again, I don't think it's the fact that he's manipulative exactly that puts me off. I like seeing two equally matched characters trying to outdo each other. Sometimes one person will win in a situation, sometimes the other will, but so long as it feels reasonably balanced, it's OK.
That's not the case with Mircea and Cassie (though Cassie is getting stronger in every book). It feels like most of the power is on Mircea's side and he takes full advantage of that. If Cassie were able to treat with Mircea as an equal, I think I might root for him more. I wouldn't mind his manipulations if Cassie were in a position to recognise them and deflect them when it suited her. But since she usually isn't, it feels like a strong person forcing a weaker one to their will, and that's an abuse of power. I really cheer for Cassie whenever she asserts her own mind and goes against Mircea (and she's doing it more and more).
I do like smart, sneaky characters in fiction, and I'm often drawn to the rogues, but you need someone to counterbalance them, or they just seem like arrogant abusers. Right now, I don't feel Cassie is quite strong enough to balance against Mircea (though she's getting there), so it bugs me when he uses her for his own ends without considering what's best for her. That's not love, no matter what he might say.
I really look forward to the end of the series when Cassie totally owns the Pythian Court and she's able to tell the whole Vampire Senate to go screw themselves!

Ah, now that shall be a glorious day indeed. It'll take a while, but it'll definitely be worth the wait. And I completely get what you mean with their relationship being too one-sided with regards to power. I wouldn't mind what Mircea does as much if Cassie could realise what he was up to and tell him to go screw himself when it happened. But as it is, she can't - like that scene in HtM when she gets thrown out by Marlowe and is just sitting all depressed on the set, feeling powerless. That scene really got to me. If the next chapter or so hadn't consisted of Mircea repeatedly saving her life, I'd have completely gone off him at that point. But I didn't. Yeah, Jax is right - I'm an utter softy.

Zeenat wrote: "Mircea is a good, "boyfriend for now". I wouldn't want anything long term. ..."
Well I think in the beginning, he was quite harsh to cassie, 'hey no you can't do this and that'. Although I know its mirceas order but still it annoyed me quite a bit..
Btw, is it in HtM when billy joe made the comment of Cassie being their dinners? Coz I can't remember any of those :S I'm thinking if I have skipped some pages lol

There's still a whole undercurrent of 'Daddy' Mircea running through the books. Daddy tells his little girl to stay in her room, and when she should go to bed, and Daddy saves her when she's in danger. It's slightly creepy actually!

That REALLY bugs me! The whole, You will do as I say mentality! And the sad thing is, being vamp he will never be able to put Cassie as an equal - I just don't think its in Mircea's mindset... which is why I'm against him as her partner - he still rocks as a senator though...
With the vamps thinking Cassie is under Mircea's thumbs and therefore under vamp control...
For Vamps - they're kinda stupid!! lol... in all their arrogance, I guess they never considered that if they piss Cassie off too much, she could just travel back in time, and make sure they never come to be!
Plus, how often has she defied Mircea anyhow? Under his thumb indeed...Huff!
LOL....
Okay - Sorry -I'm done ranting like a lunatic...

For example, if a man was married to a woman who was in the fire brigade, would it be right for him to give her a hard time for perhaps going into a burning building to try to save someone? Should he tell her that she should stay home so that he can take care of her, even if she loves her job? Or should he try to be as supportive as he can of his wife's choices, even if he quietly wished that she did something different?
Cassie's role as Pythia will occasionally put her in danger (though I will say Cassie tends to make things worse for herself). But if Mircea doesn't accept this, then he doesn't accept Cassie for who she is, and he undermines her position. I'm not saying he has to LIKE that she endangers herself, but if Cassie says she needs to do something, then she needs to do it.
I think you have a good point in saying Mircea still considers her to be so young. She IS a child in his eyes. You cannot compare the life experiences of someone in their early 20s to someone around 500 years old. But just like every parent has to let their child go out into the world (when secretly they might prefer to keep them home and safe), Mircea has to allow Cassie to grow.
On Marco, I actually think Marco is smarter than most of the vamps. He realises that if he tries to force limits on Cassie, she's going to push and push against them, and go off without telling him. So he tries to befriend her and welcome her into the family and build a relationship with her. This could just be because Marco is a nice guy (and I think he is), but it could also be because he's intelligent enough to realise that this will help him do his job more effectively. If his relationship with her is like a parent with a rebellious teenager, they will fight and she'll just take off. However, if he can establish trust and friendship, maybe she'll take him into her confidence or invite him along when she does anything dangerous. I'm always super cynical about when vamps do nice things, because there's usually always a reason for it. Does Marco like and care about Cassie? I'm sure he does. Does he want to do his job well, so as not to get punished by Mircea? Definitely. You can decide yourself which of these questions is most important to Marco!

Things I liked:
Marco
The whole Earth is another demon realm thing
Cassie's parentage
Things that ticked me off (but not enough to not give the book 5 stars):
Where was Billy Joe!?
Where was Rafe!?
Mircea being a jerk
Too much action (ok, I know most Cassie books are like this. But, it kinda gets confusing cos too much stuff is happening @ once.)
I don't know when the next book will be out!!

10th Circle of HELL!!!...:D
If you've finished all the Cassie books, well you're left with the rest of us hypothosizing what will happen, with not an inkling of when we can rush off to get the next one!! :D

Mircea sees Cassie in more than one way - he has a need to protect her because of his role in the council and her potential as a power base. Being a vampire and chief negotiator for a weakened council, he can't but act in the way he does.
Then on a personal level he is quite vulnerable, and I'm with with Somnium here - you get the feeling he hasn't really had a relationship with anyone, that has not included politics, since Dory's mother - and that didn't end too well!
On top of that as you guys have said there's the age thing and his unresolved relationship with Dory. The only vamps he seems to be himself with are Radu and his butler, so he doesn't get much practice at being 'human' really... (sighs - poor love)

I'm not known for my patience...LOL
So, I won't be happy till he arrives!
(I'm like a 2 year old - I require instant gratification!!) :D

However, I get why he did what he did with the geis thing, even though it was stupid and way too manipulative. Still, what else can you expect from a vamp? Things like this come up in pretty much every UF series that involves vampires. They crave control. Manipulating people is what they do. It's why so many UF heroines are so reluctant all the time when a vamp starts showing interest in them. It always starts off as some kind of way for the vamp to maintain their power base. Sometimes, they will genuinely care (as much as a vamp is able to care) about the chick they've been chasing after for whatever length of time.
It's only because this seems to be typical vamp behavior that I can forgive Mircea for the way he treats Cassie at times. Yet, I still root for CassiexPritkin. Usually, I'm firmly in the vamp's corner when there is a love triangle, but not this time. There are times when a vamp's manipulative and controlling nature can complement a heroine's personality, but I don't think it works with Cassie and Mircea. So the CassiexMircea pairing just doesn't do it for me.

It's definitely not okay. Cassie, though has to make the choice to put up with it or not. Vamps can control their natures, but they never can seem to stop manipulating people. It's one of the downsides to being in a relationship with a vamp. For some heroines, it seems to work. It just doesn't seem to for Cassie and Mircea. Mircea says "stay" and then Cassie runs away and does whatever she needs to do with Pritkin in tow. I do enjoy the times Mircea has been there to help in the fight, though.

thats true.

haha yea he sure is handy in a fight!

Mircea v Edward LMOA
@Aileen: I agree - I have a sneaking suspicion that Mircea subconciously likes being defied by Cassie, just as LC likes a bit of a challenge with Dory.

I have no real problem w/ Mircea. I just think Cassie fits better w/ Pritkin. Mircea & Cassie knew each other before. & she kinda views him as "saving" her. I think that'll decide it in the end. Cassie doesn't need anyone to save her anymore. Just teach her. (Like Pritkin)

All this talk just makes me itchy to see how she gets Pritkin out! (and she WILL!)
However, the possible versions in my head, I've made her a little more vengeful than I think she really would be!
As pissed off as Cassie gets, she's still pretty damn sweet! :D

like
1) like can Mircea read cassie's mind though there bond? cuz theres sometimes were she's thinking things about him to herself and he answers them out loud
2) then Pirkins dad wants him back in hell so he can us his son to make more demon babies to become powerful right?
3) Cassie finds out her mom basically was the queen of the seven realms in hell but she ended up leaving? so the reason is why what happened when she was down there?
4) Cassie goes in search of Pirkin in the end so well she goes to look for him do you think firkin and her are gonna seal the deal? i don't think his father or any other demon would pass up that deal to have sex and get a power boost with it.
5) oh yea and maybe cassie can build her court in hell at least there she won't have so many attempts on her life or vise versa
plus i dont trust mircea (cuz remember when she asked him if he had a mistress or some thing he answers" I don't have one in the moment")

i agree the whole "i dont have one at the moment" is pretty suss, does that mean he plans on having one in the future even though he's meant to be married to cassie?? but i suppose he expects her not to "stray" and be faithful but he's a man so he can do what ever he wants.
*grumble* stupid mircea.

Dblaze, firstly, welcome to the group! :)
I'll try to answer your questions as best as I can
1. I think Mircea might be able to read Cassie's mind to a certain extent, but not completely. I think maybe he senses strong emotions and stuff like that?
2. Yup, that's basically it. Rosier wants to pimp out Pritkin to increase his own powerbase.
3. Not sure off the top of my head. I think she had a fall out with the other gods??
4/5. I think Cassie will definitely go after Pritkin and everyone's waiting on them to seal the deal LOL! I can't somehow see Cassie setting up court in the demon realm, because she needs her mages around her and, apart from Pritkin, they wouldn't be welcome in hell, I shouldn't think.
I can't recall Mircea saying that about a mistress. I remember Cassie saying something about a girlfriend and he said "What girlfriend?", but Cassie is confused because she thinks Dory is his bit on the side.

read Midnight's Daughter & Death's Mistress. if you havent already, there a side story to the cassandra books.

I'd definitely hang out with Pritkin - maybe try and get him to give me some 'Cassie' training - minus the running though! I'm sooo with Cassie on that one!
" I don't run for recreation, I run because people are trying to kill me......LOL
