Brett (battlinjack) | 6 comments Many years ago I read a Science Fiction/Fantasy book that I have been trying to find ever since.
It was an Ace Double, the ones where one book was on each side, upside down from the other. Usually 75 cents to $1.25.

The story, as best I remember, was about a battle between two sides. One side was or had a White flame and the other a Black flame. The flames were powers/gods/VIPs and the battle had been going on forever it seemed.

It's been so long that I have a very hard time remembering much except for that bit. I think the cover had a painting of a woman in front of a huge white flame. She seemed to be wearing a white gossamer dress/robes and maybe had long dark hair.

I don't remember much else except that I have been looking off and on for about 30-40 years?

If anyone has ANY ideas, please let me know.

Thanks to everyone.

Abigail (handmaiden) | 391 comments Here is a list of Ace Double Novel books: http://www.worldcat.org/search?qt=hot... (You can also find a list of Ace books, including their Double Novels, elsewhere, such as on Wikipedia.)

When I refined the WorldCat list using the keyword "flame," the only result was Captives of the Flame (which was bound with The Psionic Menace) Captives of the Flame / the Psionic Menace, but I haven't been able to find much in the way of summary of it. CotF was later rewritten and published as Out of the Dead City, and there are several covers for each version of the book.

If CotF or OotDC don't sound right, maybe something will pop out at you from browsing the complete list of Ace Doubles.

I sent Brett a PM, since he's still fairly active on GR. If we don't hear anything from him soon, we'll just move this down to Abandoned.

Kagama-the Literaturevixen | 599 comments Might be the same book someone else is looking for (or maybe its the same?)

Brett (battlinjack) | 6 comments hi, sorry for the delay in responding. Been having PC problems.The list of Ace doubles is cool, will have to check my list against it.
And yes, I am still trying to find this book. It's become somewhat of an obsession now.
Thanks for the posts.

BTW. The best list of Ace Doubles I have found to date is at;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_...

Also, a couple sites with cover images;

Brett (battlinjack) | 6 comments Out of the Dead City is not the one. The one I am looking for is a sci-fi/fantasy.
POSSIBLY a world discovered by explorers on which this civilization is warring. It kind of reminds me of the Darkover series by Marion Zimmer Bradley now that I think of it.
Argh! Frustrating.

MB Taylor | 22 comments The cover sounds like The Flame of Iridar by Lin Carter (a Belmont, not Ace, double). It's been too many decades since I read it to have any idea what it was about.

The plot seems to fit, too: http://www.castaliahouse.com/the-lin-...

The nice thing to do will be to leave your posts as they may help future searches.

But if you're insistent on deleting your account (which will probably delete your posts, too) here's how-to: https://www.goodreads.com/help/#delet...
