Hey! As discussed at the group, itd be great to squeeze in a meeting before the 15th June as the fearless and intrepid Lilly will be setting sail for pastures new.

Should have done this earlier, but can you try to post any new suggestions before nod if day Friday, else we can simply re-use previous suggestions. I imagine the other books don't become bad choices in such a short space of time!

Another suggestion after the last couple of books was perhaps for something that (sacrilege for a book club, I know!) perhaps careers towards a happier outcome? So in the blurb look for keywords like "heartwarming tale", "uplifting" or better yet "hilarious adventure" and avoid indicators of the type "powerful" , "poignant" or "heart-breaking" :-)

I'm currently reading Wonderboys by Michael Chabon and am finding it satisfyingly amusing so I'll suggest that and put it to the side on the 1000 to 1 shot I get a book selected!

So, we can get a doodle out Friday afternoon and we can close Monday.

All okay for that?

See you sooner-than-usual!

Alan

Jigna | 17 comments Hey sorry but I'll be in the US until the 18th. I'll probably end up reading whatever gets chosen anyway.

I'll see you all in July if we decide to do a bookclub then!

Jigna

Just quickly, poll is closed and the next book is Michael Chabon with Wonderboys.

Poll for a date in the very near future to follow. That's both a poll in the near future and a date too.

See you soon

Alan

Here's a poll to the doodle for the date of the book as promised. So, as we said, the intention was to squeeze a meeting out soon so thats why you'll see the dates are all at the start of June.

Hope we can sort something out!

By the way, an awkward situation has arisen. Despite working in IT, it looks like I didn't have the technical savvie to close the poll when I thought I did and another couple of voters have voted after the book was announced, changing the result. Since its already out there that Wonderboys was the choice and it was only through my own ineptitude that this happened, I say we stick to it. If anyone feels strongly that they want to challenge this, let me know and I'll hire a couple of inflatable sumo suits for the neccessary stand-off :o) Seriously, though, if that causes anyone any problem, send me a mail and we can look again, but in the meantime we can stick with Wonderboys.

Cheers!

Alan

I agree that we should stick to it, even more so since some people might have already bought it.

BTW, do you know that you still haven't closed it ;)

Caroline (liney) | 22 comments Wonderboys is just fine for me too.

message 16: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen (pariskat) | 47 comments I like Michael Chabon, I loved The amazing Adventures of Kavalie and Clay but i dont want to read Wonderboys. I voted for Thousand Autumns, it was the winner in fact. I prefer to read something set in another time and place than the States. So i will see you guys next time ... next book. Ciao, All the best, Kathleen

Lili Snyder | 11 comments So then...where shall we meet on Tuesday? I'm open to new locations, but I do have to say I quite like our little bar by the centre pompidou.
