Rachel I love them both, but VA had more books so I would steer more that way. love vamps

message 103: by S.L.J. (last edited Nov 06, 2011 06:41AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

S.L.J. There was a planned story arc through the VA series. Twilight was just 1 book that SM decided to push over 4 parts which is why it's such weak story telling. It's written very nicely but it's stretched way too far.

If she had tried a little harder, it could have been a well rounded trilogy. But she over-reached and that's why the series fell to pieces. The VA story on the other hand was always meant to be 6 books and it worked.

It could have been better in places and some of the ending was a bit rushed but it still worked and now the parts of the ending that were rushed are being giving space to breathe in the spin-off.

VA trumps Twilight in every way.

C.C. VA all the way! Kick ass female and hot teacher :D

message 105: by julia (new) - rated it 5 stars

julia Vampire Academy all the way, no question about it. I like how Rose is strong and fearless. I like characters that are fierce warrior type not the ones that cower in a corner (Bella).

Bookaholic Vampire Academy is...well...it's... ARGHHHH It's MIND-BLOWING.
Now, let's see..um..twilight? Well, yeah, that's just...Not so mind-blowing...

Laura vampire academy....all the way

message 108: by Jacqui (last edited Nov 06, 2011 10:35PM) (new) - added it

Jacqui I love both books, but Vampire Academy is my favourite. Non stop action, a female lead with Backbone, forbidden student teacher relationship, betrayals and murder! What's not to love!

Anastasia シ Vampire Academy

message 111: by Ivy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ivy G. I love both series, but i am a true Twilight fan (the books not the movies).
Team Twilight...<3
Hahaha...

message 112: by [deleted user] (new)

You can't even compare them. They have absolutely nothing in common. Two completely different writing styles, two completely different plots, two completely different sets of morals (did Twilight even have a set of morals?), Two (well, I guess since VA has three , it would be four) completely different types of vampires (oh, who am I kidding? Twilight has Fairies not vampires).

message 113: by julia (new) - rated it 5 stars

julia well it does share a similar type of concept "vampires" or what each author developed as vampires and you could contrast them

message 114: by Laerke (new)

Laerke Vampire Academy. The characters are way better developed and much more likable. All the relationships seems much more realistic and I actually cared about what happened to them. In Twilight the characters - not just Bella - were just too plain, boring and very annoying. The VA story has much more depth. And I could be going on like this for years..

message 115: by [deleted user] (new)

Lia wrote: "well it does share a similar type of concept "vampires" or what each author developed as vampires and you could contrast them"

There are endless differences between them. The only thing they have in common is the "vampire." And technically, Vampire Academy, ironically enough, never says the word "vampire."

message 116: by Car (new) - rated it 5 stars

Car TWILIGHT

message 117: by Frankie (last edited Nov 25, 2011 12:14PM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Frankie I love both books, but Vampire Academy is my favourite.

Although both Bell and Rose are both flawed, Rose's reactions to situations are more believable than Bella.

message 118: by Lydia (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lydia I love both, but i am obsessed with the Vampire Academy!!!!!!!!

message 119: by Julie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Julie Ew nooo. Twilight shouldn't be compared to the Vampire Academy series! Twilight to me was the worst picked to become a hot movie. VA wins every series

message 120: by Kaitlynn (new) - added it

Kaitlynn Heller well i havent read the twilight books so no effense to the twilight fans well twilight is just boring the story line is the same in other movies/books/tv shows boy meets girl, girl gets in trouble boy saves her and they live happily ever after and well VA actually is more interesting to read and you dont know whats going to happen in the big events

so VA is my pick

Kaitlin Smiffy Smith Kaity wrote: "well i havent read the twilight books so no effense to the twilight fans well twilight is just boring the story line is the same in other movies/books/tv shows boy meets girl, girl gets in trouble ..."

i agree in vampire academy the plots and everything are way deeper and are way more interesting than the - no offense - typical story line that twilight has

Jojo(SexybeastYo!) VAMPIRE ACADEMY...dude i liked twilight but then i read these and i felt in love...amazing books tottaly worth spending my money on them....VA all the way to the top of the world lol...i agree you cant say no to twilight there good but VA is way much better! :)

message 123: by Jana (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jana omg you can't even compare the two!!!!!!! Vampire Academy so wins by miles!!!! so much more action, way more interesting, and omg the characters are so much more fascinating, and the types of vampires and settings are just amazing too!!!.
you even get a little teary :)
Even if the two main characters (Rose, Bella) are totally different. but that's good because Rose kicks ass. I mean seriously Bella sounds and looks as if shes already dead from the start with the lack of emotions and EVERYTHING!!! once you read vampire academy you think no more of twilight. plus dimitri sounds so much hotter! <3 ....and Adrian .... and everyone else.

Jojo(SexybeastYo!) Jana wrote: "omg you can't even compare the two!!!!!!! Vampire Academy so wins by miles!!!! so much more action, way more interesting, and omg the characters are so much more fascinating, and the types of vampi..."

ditto :)

Totally! Could'nt have put it better myself :)

Scarlet Rose VA definitely
theres no challenge

Vampire academy. VAMPIRES DO NOT SPARKLE!!!!!!

message 132: by Kayley (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kayley Vampire Academy, it is a no brainer. Vampire Academy has more action and a deeper story line then Twilight, though I do love the Twilight books!

message 133: by [deleted user] (new)

SERIOUSLY???????????????????????????????????????????VAMPIRE ACADEMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

message 134: by Sidrah (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sidrah VA VA VA VA VA VA VA

message 135: by Zoe (new) - rated it 4 stars

Zoe Vampire Academy is far better than Twilight,

My first reason is about the main characters. In Vampire Academy the main character is a bad ass, half vampire, teenage girl who is training to become a guardian so she can protect her best friend from the bad guys. In Twilight, the main character is a selfish teenager girl who is overly dependent on her vampire boyfriend. Also the supporting characters in Vampire Academy have quite an interesting past that is carried with them through the series creating new problems and solving old ones, in Twilight you didn't really get to know the supporting characters stories till about book three.

My second reason is the plot. I didn't actually get the plot for the first three books in the Twilight saga, and then suddenly in the fourth, she has a baby and the Volturi are coming to kill the Cullen family. In Vampire Academy the plot is mixed with paranormal romance, politics, murder and psychological problems.

My third reason is the historical beliefs in both of the stories. While Stephanie Meyer did actually add in a bit about the history of both werewolves and vampires, Richelle Mead continually educated her audience on the beliefs of the Russians and history of the vampire society, which by itself was more interesting the Stephanie Meyer's version.

Lastly vampires don't sparkle in the freakin' sun!

Julia Joanne Black Definitely TWILIGHT. This book was worse than Twilight by far!

Whitney There is no contest. Vampire academy wins.

Don't even compare it to...

message 138: by puppitypup (last edited Mar 05, 2013 08:55PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

puppitypup VA if for no other reason than Edward has cold hands...ugh!

Also, the friendship between Rosé and Lissa is solid, and Rose is the best.

Kirsten Vampire academy hands down. The plot is better, the romance is better, its just way better lol

Cynthia How dare anyone compare Vampire Academy with Twilight?! Vampire Academy is the best vampire series I've ever read and actually have morals and life lessons. Rose is a very independent woman whereas Bella is a girl that is too codependent. Ew. PLUS DIMITRI AND ADRIAN AND EVEN CHRISTIAN ARE SO MUCH HOTTER THAN THE TWILIGHT BOYS.

message 141: by Keiley (new) - rated it 4 stars

Keiley Oh my god. When are we all going to stop comparing every book on the market to Twilight? Is this like the quest of the YA reader? To compare every single YA series released to Twilight, regardless of their differences? Jeez. It's getting a bit old, don't you think?

That being said, my preferences lie with Vampire Academy, purely because I think Rose kicks ass. Plus she isn't completely dependent on Dimitri, like Bella is on Edward. And she didn't go diving off a cliff when Dimitri was gone. All up, I think the characters are more well rounded, the plot line is more interesting. Perhaps I just like it because it's less of a love story, but we'll never know, now will we?

message 142: by Kelley (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kelley King I honestly like both of them equally. They both have their own good things :)

message 143: by Alaa (new) - rated it 5 stars

Alaa Assaf VA All THE WAY!!!! IM LIKE IN LOVE WITH ALL THE CHARACTERS!!! Twilight isnt a bad series though

message 144: by Lauren (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lauren vampire academy is so much better i love love drama the action.

message 145: by Nora (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nora Vampire Academy of course.

message 146: by Star (new) - rated it 5 stars

Star Fouse Vampire academy ALL the way. I didnt even care much for Twilight. I managed to read all the Twilight books because its hard for me to stop in the middle of a series. Vampires just shouldnt sparkle dammit! I couldnt see why people were just overlooking the fact that Edward was a virgin pervy old man who liked to B&E into an underage teenage girls house just to stare at her while she slept. Not to mention stalking her everyday. Thats not even the half of it. Plus, dont even get me started on the emotional instability of Bella...

lol, dont get me wrong. Its only a story and not every story is for everyone. Its just my take on it.

Guess you could say im team "Guy who almost hit Bella with a van*

message 147: by Lauren (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lauren Vampire Academy. In Twilight you have Bella who sits around waiting for Edward to rescue her, which is an outdated portrayal of women. In Vampire Academy, the female character's are just as strong as the male characters.
