She can speak to the dead. Only problem is, they’re still walking around.
After enduring a week-long flu, Jane Smith wakes to find out a terrorist organization has spread a deadly virus over the nation, changing anyone who’s infected into the walking dead. With no choice but to flee her home, Jane teams up with her boyfriend, Josh Williams, as they venture to find something better than the desolate land that was once called the home of the brave and the land of the free.
Driving across the country, Jane encounters some of the newly turned and finds she can hear their thoughts inside her head. Before she can understand her link to the undead, Jane and Josh are captured by the terrorists responsible for the virus because of one special reason: they know she can communicate with the infected and they want her to be a part of their fight to take down the rest of the world.
Afraid for their lives, Jane must decide if she should join the terrorists or use her new found powers to stop them.

Best wishes, Stephen Livingston.

“Say Not What If” is about a man on death row, and has as its theme the concept that time is our most valuable commodity. As someone once said, “waste anything but time, because we really are promised no tomorrows.” This theme is explored through the life of a man who sacrifices his marriage and everything else for his career. He realizes much too late the terrible consequences of this decision, and then desperately tries to regain those lost years by making a much worse choice. The resolution of this latter choice involves an additional examination of the concepts of accountability and responsibility, redemption, and the morality of the death penalty.
The story has an average rating of about 4/5 stars on Goodreads. See http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12.... It was self-published using CreateSpace.
It is available for purchase from major booksellers like Amazon and Barnes & Noble, and also as an ebook for Kindle. You can read the first few pages on my website, www.ascensionenterprise.com.

Here is my offering to the list:
The Evangeline Heresy is a novel of suspense with a swirling dash of the paranormal. It is a story of an ancient legacy embodied in the mystifying healing ability of one woman, Ana Lagori, and the cynical Boston biologist, Dr. Ethan Broughton, who has come to East Tennessee to uncover the method behind her extraordinary cures. What Dr. Broughton doesn't anticipate, is that his own haunts may be uncovered in the process and nothing is ever granted without a payment in return.
Thank-you,
Thayer Berlyn

It's available only as an ebook.
On Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Cardboard-Chara...
And for Nook: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/cardb...
I hope you'll read it. Oh, and it's only 99 cents. Thanks!

If you like stories about women who can hold their own in a fight. You'll likely like this book. Fights in this case usually involve Japanese style katana.
It is available for $0.99 on Kindle, Nook, Goodreads, etc.
synopsis:
Chiyo Alglaeca was happy in her life. That is, until it was all taken away. Forced into notoriety, stalked by a mysterious cult, hunted by the emperor, and facing betrayal at every turn she clings to the only safety she can find: two enigmatic men and the sharp bringer of death, Salvation. The Weeping Empress explores the devastating effects of loss, the hunt for redemption, and the price of destiny. It questions the true meaning of evil and asks what monster is not also an innocent?

I'd love to tell people about my self-published book but it's not in your database even though it's for sale on Amazon.com. I tried author/title/ISBN for BLOOD AND MATZAH, by Christine Brown, my first novel about Jewish, time-travelling vampires, bloodandmatzah.com. How can it be added to the database/what should I do next? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Kind regards, C.

So many great indie books, so little time to read them all! I've just ventured into the world of self-publishing with my short story Written in the Stars. It's a romantic comedy if that's your thing, and will be free on Friday & Saturday (16 & 17th March).

I have two novels with e-publishers, but I really like the freedom of indie publishing and got such a thrill of putting my story up on Amazon myself that I will keep on doing it.
I'm also brand new to good reads and feeling like I'm heaven with all these fanatastic groups to choose from! Looking forward to meeting you and learning more about your indie experiences!
My book is called Love is Blind. It's urban fiction and if you like drama, you will love this book. I have just completed the spin-off of Love is Blind. It's called Running with Wolves, and it is expected to launch in May. Check out my reviews on this site.

Your cover is amazing! I'm a big fan of books about viruses...that's really weird, I know.

Here is the latest review. I couldn't explain the story better myself.
"Elizabeth Kales' storytelling lives up to the front cover statement, emphasizing love, loyalty, and faith when a heavier hand might have dwelled on the violence and terror of the era she writes about. In THE SILK WEAVER'S DAUGHTER, well-drawn characters bring to life the period during which Louis XIV attempted to eradicate Huguenots from his French Kingdom. Unavoidable descriptions of violence and death are skillfully handled in a way to produce grief rather than revulsion in the reader. Cleverly inserted historical facts and the author's direct link to the silk weaver authenticate the writing; her obvious knowledge of geographical settings and familiarity with Huguenot doctrine are further validations.
With meticulous attention to detail, Kales has attractively packaged an intriguing tale and told it in a manner that makes seventeenth century history far more accessible and enjoyable than it was in school. We all can thank her for that and hope for a sequel."

I've presumptuously added it to the group list, and it happens to be free to download here at GR at the moment so why not go ahead and grab a copy.

I adore historical fiction, growing up on a diet of my mothers Jean Plaidy novels probably did it ;-) Also love a bit of mystery thrown in, which is why I love Steven Saylor, C J Sansom and Paul Doherty's novels. Presently trying the first tentative steps as an author myself and have just put one of my books up on Kindle, "A Class Act" , I have also put the first two chapters up on here too so would appreciate your thoughts on them, if you enjoy the 1920's period as much as I do, please have a nose. And if you want me todo the same for you, I would be very happy to. Thanks Guys!

I know it has so editing issues I thought we'd taken care of, however when my computer died I didn't realize the final version was on it and not my external hard drive. Issues are too bad and for the most part the feedback I've gotten has been positive people are really enjoying the story, which still blows me away.
I'm looking forward to using this discussion as a new reading list.

There are many, many bad self published books out there (I've read a few of them), and it's concerning because these bad ones are giving self-pubbed books a bad reputation. So I am on a quest to find the good ones and help to bring them to the attention of readers!
I am particularly interested in fantasy and historical fiction. I have bookmarked a few from here so I'll be posting some reviews in the coming weeks/months.
I am also a writer and hope to have my first novel, a YA fantasy, self published early next year!

(To be honest, I find the term "self-published" a bit patronising, but...)
Anyways, my book is called The Ghost of Mandy Rosental and it is set in London/Oxford/Paris in the 1920/30s.

My genre is literary fiction and I would love to discover novelist in my genre who have managed to find an audience. It's an ongoing process for me and I'm open to feedback and suggestions.
I am giving my book "Grits & Grace" away today and tomorrow for free in the Kindle Store. My other book is "Magic In Moon Time." I hope to get more reviews :)

"Henry Galloway is a seasoned MI6 officer who finally returns home, from India, on the eve of WW II. Galloway, who is in his retiring days, starts picking on his old acquaintances when he surprisingly finds that his protégé and friend, Michael Aniston, had fled arrest after charges of treason. However, Galloway believes in his innocence without any doubt. After all, he was one who relayed the orders in one of those incriminating missions. Believing that the Directorate is infiltrated and that he cannot start a search from within, he recruits the services of Zach Taylor, a fellow WW I veteran, who excels as a detective journalist.
Suddenly the novel shifts gear and jumps back in time tracing the unbelievable adventure of Idris, a Sudanese soldier in the army of the Egyptian Khedive, who joins the French invasion of Mexico in 1863. With a twist of fate, Idris crosses the Northern borders, into the United States, in the midst of the American Civil war, where he encounters a major battle, the result of which he bears witness to a terrible secret. He encodes his secret onto a parchment and leaves it in safe hands before returning back home and gets himself engulfed into obscurity.
A bunch of Confederate aristocracy, a British Governor-General and a discrete organization are on his track and are just about to strike gold when Zach Taylor jumps into action miraculously once again."

Hi Everyone:
My new book A Hell Of A Woman is out on Kindle and Nook and other e-book devices as well. Here is the description and link.
It's the summer 2010, Allentown, Pennsylvania. Doc Halladay has joined The Philadelphia Phillies in a bid to go back and win the World Series after losing to the New York Yankees in 2009.
6 months ago, Don Gunn's wife died in a car accident. Now he is on the verge of losing his job and career at Blake & Yurman, an advertising agency, because of his non-compete agreement which will keep him out of the industry for 2 years.
Things seem to look up for Gunn when he meets Kim Hunter, a woman who is nearly half his age, a woman that he can only dream about. He goes on a date with Kim that night which will be the beginning of his worst nightmare. Suddenly, people are following him, camping out by his apartment. 5 people are murdered by a serial killer and Kim Hunter is a person of interest in all of the murders.
As Gunn races through interviews in order to find a job before he is fired from Blake & Yurman, his life is spiraling out of control, putting the lives of his closet friends - Natalie Mendoza and Doug Kimball - in danger. As a result, Gunn is forced to determine who the serial killer is before he is the next victim.
A Hell Of A Woman is a story about love, friendship, and what happens when a man loses everything that he worked so hard for because of corporate greed in America.

So far, I've written two adult paranormal/sci-fi novels and am at work on a third. I am only self-published, with my first novel "Becoming, and the Tale of Lamashtu" available on Amazon, Lulu, and on Smashwords, it's free! That's right. Free :)
Here is a blurb for "Becoming, and the Tale of Lamashtu"
Death/marriage in the family? About to come into some money? Imogen Ameore can warn you before something is about to happen, not that it will do much good. When she moves back home to Graydon, Florida, she begins a new life. Still, her prescient gift makes her vulnerable to a bombardment of ancient spirits that wish once more to be a part of the world through the use of her body. Also, her new boyfriend seems to know more about her power than she does...
After another psychic informs Imogen of her impending death, she tries everything she can think of to prevent it, even as she knows that fate is inevitable. Once she's dead, Imogen's true test of character is how she can stop the body-thieving demons from destroying all of mankind.
"Becoming, and the Tale of Lamashtu" is the first novel from author Red Harvey, who takes the reader on a journey involving Native American legends, Hernando De Soto, and the world of a new kind of superhero.

Here's the code needed. HA28T
Blurb: The longest night in Nikolai Crowe’s life begins when he’s framed for murdering his ex-girlfriend, Jade Sho. To save himself, he must find the real killer without getting caught by crooked cops, who rather see him dead than captured. Luckily Nikolai has help from a human clone identified as Alpha Replica 3007. This clone’s mission is to guide Nikolia toward something Jade left for him before her death.
Review:“Wow, the best of two worlds, a good sci-fi story and a great mystery all rolled into one. The author has woven a superb tale of murder, double-cross, conspiracy, and betrayal. The characters are first rate, and the plot is intricate enough without being over the top. Very nicely done.”

**Also... I am looking to feature an author at the end of my novel. If anyone would like to submit a few chapters as part of a bonus story, please contact me!**

Richard Paladin works in the shadows eliminating terrorists, spies, and just general riff-raff who threaten the security of the United States. At least, he assumed that's who he'd be killing when he was hired into a secret department of the Environmental Protection Agency. But when one of his "clients" turns out to be a seemingly harmless Missouri housewife, then he's ordered to eliminate the owner of the local northern Virginia bar he frequents, he starts to ask himself a few questions—like what any of this has to do with the U.S. Government's reluctance to sign the Kyoto Protocol. Still, if he can run the gauntlet of spies and goons who keep cropping up unexpectedly, he might just be able to hold onto his job and keep doing what he loves—arranging fatal accidents and suicides. Because Richard Paladin hasn't got a clue what he would do for a living if he loses his job as a government killer.
It's available as an e-book and in paper on Amazon.

Hi, I just completed my newest novel. It's filled with adventure, ghostly encounters, and new concepts! Check out the book description:
Jody, an aristocratic teenager, falls into a deadened coma, after a surreal accident in the woods. Awakening, she discovers that she has gained an exceptionally powerful memory, which soon allows her to learn the violin at an extraordinary speed. Once her town becomes infected with an intruding group of seeming phantasms, she is swept into an adventure, together with ghosts from the present and past, to rescue her town from the intruders. Before Dark is a maze of political, financial and spiritual intrigue whose many conflicts, pursuits and legends will capture the reader in a thrilling chase until its dramatic conclusion.

Marian Sheffield longs to climb out of the pits, but before she can transform her career and romantic life, she must contend with the indiscretions of Belle, her business partner and best friend. Along the way, Marian learns the difference between a crush on her guy friend and the very real advances of her company’s investor—and how to apply the relationship advice she promotes in her own bookstore. http://tinyurl.com/7ra7gda

It's a small book (around 21,000 words), but I've been working on it on and off for about a year. I went through a lot while living abroad, but I wrote this collection with a selective eye for experiences that could translate well in any country. Themes like love, sex, death and discovery flow in and out of all of our lives.
I'm just hoping you read these stories and get from it not just a smile from some clever phrasing, or a few chuckles (yeah those are there too) but a sense of intimacy with the things that we all share. If you check it out you have my thanks. :)

Genre-blending? Party of one! I’m so there. Jewish, time-travelling vampires on a mission from G-d, waging a holy war against evil? Check. Romance, crime-fighting, lust, disco, annoying Jewish mothers, sexy vampires who travel back in time just in time to see the rescue of the Danish Jews in 1943? Why not? Politics, religion, history, chicken soup, gun control and the kitchen sink? You have to ask? If one is not pissing off enough people, why bother? Don't worry, you don't have to be Jewish to read it. But it couldn't hoit. Eh, it's up to you.

I call it "historical magic realism," but others have called it epic fantasy. I have tried to break the rules of the fantasy genre, however. The story is really about a young man, just 16, who faces huge challenges: he has a disability, his parents have been murdered and his own community does not want him around.
Until the end of June, I'm giving away electronic copies to smart readers who can discern two rules of the fantasy genre that I broke. For details, visit my blog, http://scottswrittenwords.blogspot.com
