I'm sorry :( Is it because of people and pollution, or is it just naturally disgusting?

Sounds exciting Rebecca.Taylor, you might want to check out Herculaneum. It was preserved by Vesuvius as well, only it's bigger, better preserved, and less full of tourists. I wanted to go to Pompeii since about the age of 7 too, but I may have transferred that feeling to Herculaneum. (Which is a good thing since I can go to Herculaneum with my Latin class, but not Pompeii)
Cassie- Pollution. I mean, it's not as bad as some places but it's not crystal clear. I guess thats the consequence for civilization always building around a source of water.
Yeah, I know what you mean. The yadkin river looks so bad partly because it just naturally does, but within recent years it has gotten worse because of pollution. It's really sad.
Yeah, and then all-around you see beautiful water-ways. I guess people around here never cared much for making the river look nice.
Often you don't realize it until it's too late. (cue Big Yellow Taxi and Bright Lights) But then some are naturally ugly. Like the Charles. It's extremely polluted, but they're cleaning it up; despite this it will always be an icky brownish because of some chemical that's in it.
The Saskatchewan River (the river near the place I live)is also disgusting.
It is such a shame that people don't take care of the environment around us!

I mean, they're a huge part of how we know what we know about that time in history.
I know. It's so amazing how that can happen. Although, to be honest, even if I go to Herculaneum, I want to get to Pompeii at some point. It's hard to give up a lifelong dream.
Agreed. I've heard, though, that the next time Vesuvius erupts, Pompeii and Herculaneum will be destroyed. So I'm really hoping I can go BEFORE that happens.
I'm hoping that doesn't happen for another thousand years. Why would it destroy it this time? Is it supposed to be a bigger explosion?
Kate wrote: "I'm hoping that doesn't happen for another thousand years. Why would it destroy it this time? Is it supposed to be a bigger explosion?"Yep. From what I understand, Vesuvius will basically destroy itself in the process.
Although I have never been out of the Midwest, Boring! I would LOVE to visit Ireland and England. Here in the U.S. I would love to visit Disneyland in Florida!! Go to the beaches along the east coast. I'd also love to go to Colorado and go skiing and camp out in a log cabin.
Maybe France!?!?! France is AMAZINGGGG
I went there October last year...ten days in Paris.
We got up early, went to bed late, rushed around 99.9% of the time....and still didnt see half the things we wanted to see. There is SO much to do there.
Its the best city in the world.
Plus, if you like books (which I assume you do) check out this.
It was right down the road from my hotel :) :) :)

I think I will now pray to the tornado that brought Dorothy to Oz to bring me to that bookstore to live.
Its amazing...standing inside is like...whoa. Mind blowing. And you can see Notre Dame out the front windows, which makes it even mreo impressive :)
I can imagine. I think I would just about faint if I was ever inside that place. Were all the books in French, or did they have some English as well?
ALL OF THEM WERE IN ENGLISH. EVERY SINGLE ONE.
There were old antique books, classics, mainstream fiction and even an entire room for YA books.
ALL IN ENGLISH.
How amazing is that?
