Due to an interesting discussion that broke out in the previous thread I'd started on the rules for posting in the group, I'm starting this new one. :O)

BEFORE YOU POST please take the time to make sure you've selected the appropriate folder for your topic. It only takes a moment to do so. If you don't think there's a folder to match your topic, please let us know here in this thread and we'll look into adding more folders. With so many members and topics, it's important to try to maintain organization. Please don't start other topics of conversation in this thread.

Thank you so much for your understanding and for making this such a great group! :O)

LAWonder10 | 108 comments I am usually a fan of Anita Stansfield's book but her new Passage on the Titanic" was a disappointment. I feel it would have been a great short story but I feel she really dragged it out to make a novel. She could have created more events before and after the Titanic episode but as it stands I give it 3 stars

Hi, Lu! I'm not sure what Anita Stansfield's book has to do with discussion posting. This particular thread isn't for any discussion other than what folders we need to add to the group to keep the discussions well-organized and easy to navigate. Did you have a question about what folder this topic belongs in? I would suggest the "Book Chats" folder, so others can participate in the discussion too.

:O)

Maria Schneider (bearmountainbooks) | 36 comments Is there a thread where I could introduce myself and mention my own books? I see some threads where individuals introduced themselves and their books, but I know that can get out of hand in a hurry. I don't want to take up a whole thread on my books, but would still like a place to mention that I'm an author and why my books might fit the group.

A few other groups have threads for "self-promos" or "giveaways" or "review requests." Maybe if there was one for "Authors Post Your News Here" or some nice homey spot...

Welcome Maria! We do have a thread for promoting your books, posting giveaways, etc. Some people start their own "Hi, I'm new!" thread under our Welcome heading. Others have chosen to introduce themselves under the thread "Just a reminder about the purpose of this group." Either way is fine. :-) So just jump in and tell us about yourself!

There's also a folder called "Author Promotions & Excerpts" as well as "Book Chats". Either of these would be good places to talk specifically about your books and what they're about. And yes, it's fine to mention your books when introducing yourself in the "Welcome" folder, whether you're adding your intro on a thread someone else started or starting your own.

Welcome to the group!

Thanks to both of you. I somehow missed the obvious in looking for it. I'm a dork! I've been on here before and kind of pop back now and then looking to see what everyone is talking about. I guess I'll go find a thread and babble a bit!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Dawn Harris | 4 comments I'm new to Goodreads, and am pleased to find this group. I'm a great fan of Georgette Heyer - favourite book, if I have to pick one, is probably "Venetia." She has greatly influenced my own writing, first with short stories, and now - if I'm allowed to mention it here - my first book "Letter From A Dead Man," out on Amazon.

Welcome Dawn! Most Gr groups have a promo section and that is where we all get to mention our books. Look for a rules on posting and you'll find directions.

Hi Dawn! Welcome to the group and Goodreads!

We do have a section specifically for book promotion and you're more than welcome to start your own discussion thread there. And be sure to add your romances to the group bookshelf, as long as they're secular. There are a lot of other groups that focus on Christian/Inspirational books so we like to focus on the secular ones. :O)

message 28: by Maria (new)

Maria Schneider (bearmountainbooks) | 36 comments Oh, I didn't know about the group bookshelf. I will have to add mine. As soon as I find said shelf...

Hi Jasmine,

Yep, we're kind of here to fill that niche that wasn't being filled by the strictly Christian market. Nothing against Christian books, mind you. I read them myself, but other types of clean romances need a home too. :-)

message 34: by Summer (new)

Summer (summerleeauthor) | 52 comments I do write Christian books. But that is not what I want on here. I like to write clean romance that has a fantasy spin. My books are on amazon kindle as ebooks and I publish paperback through Lulu. Is there any way I can break into a thread for a giveaway or something?

Scroll down on the main part of the discussion group and there's a section for freebies and giveaways. That's where giveaways are announced. If it is a Christian book, you probably want to make that clear to avoid confusion. I'm sure many members read both and it's always nice to know what the product is even for freebies and giveaways!

I really liked Jane Austen, esp. Pride and Prejudice. And I like reading romance with lots of comedic elements..

Comedic: Don't we all. That is by far my favorite category in mystery or romance or ANYTHING. Look up Julie Moffett -- I really enjoyed her work (a bit over the top, but that's part of the genre of funny!) You might also try Calamity Jane. I had a link on my website to one of her books on Kindle that was free. I think it still is. And there's a "boxed Kindle set" that is 9.99 or something if you like the first one. Let me see if I can find the post.

Maria Schneider (bearmountainbooks) | 36 comments Here's my review of Calamity Jane and the links to the freebie/boxed kindle set!

http://www.bearmountainbooks.com/favo...

I checked and the first is still free.

No such luck with the Julie Moffett books but her imprint generally prices at 5 dollars or under so they are bargains anyway.

I reviewed one of hers too; if anyone is interested let me know and I'll post the link.

This is the review of the second in the series. I didn't review the novella (haven't read it because it came out after I had already read the other and it's still on my TBR.)
