Dovewing | 270 comments She eyed the clutch bags with distaste. "Oh, yeah. This is why I hate dances. Now I remember."

Bobbie (bobbiesquares) | 115 comments ((Dawwwww. Jordan is going to need a cold shower after seeing those two. Especially Cai.))

Jordan eyed Cai's suitcase, then went to unpack his drum kit. He ran through a couple of exercises before becoming bored, then the got out his laptop and started searching the net for details about the benefit ball they were attending.

message 253: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments "It's not so much the bags themselves, it's that I have to carry it with me everywhere and I can't just have the strap over my shoulder. That irritates me. So... yeah. Besides, there are other places to hide weapons." She started to browse through the shelves. "But I guess the bags are a necessary evil."

message 254: by Bobbie (last edited Feb 23, 2012 08:28AM) (new)

Bobbie (bobbiesquares) | 115 comments ((I am jealous that the girls get to go shopping while all Jordan's going to do is pick up his suit from the rent-a-tux place. Boys are so lame...))

Jordan frowned at the website he had found for the castle hosting the ball. According to it, the castle (castillo, he reminded himself) was an old and very historic ruin located "in scenic mountains well away from modern life." It was very large, and not in good repair. Jordan supposed that wherever the ball would be - the actual room, that is - and a few other areas would be all that the guests were allowed into. The rest of the castle would be blocked off.

The problem was, what with their collective curiosity and talent for finding trouble, it would be all too easy to end up in one of the oldest, most crumbling part of the castle... and if one of them was killed our injured, then 1) it would be easy to make look like an accident and 2) miles from the nearest city, it would be a long time until any help would be able to arrive.

message 255: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments "True." She was only half paying attention to what Cai was saying, half of her attention was on her surroundings and another half on the actual shopping.

((yeah, three halves of her attention is being used.))

message 256: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments "Yeah..." She picked up a small black bag and looked at the price tag, then put it back down. "Honestly, you would think these would cost less. I mean, there's so little material making them up."

message 257: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments "That would work." She looked up from the shelf and, spotting a sign, she smiled and moved over to it. "Ah-ha. The clearance rack."

message 258: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments Saffy found a simple black bag for about one sixth of the price the other (nearly identical) one had been. "I will never understand some things. Such as why adding a designer name to a simple bag increases the value exponentially."

message 259: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments "Right. Shoes." She agreed as she moved to the other side of the store. A dark brown pair of heels caught her eye almost immediately. They weren't too high, but they were higher than she useually wore. "What do you think?" she asked Cai, holding up the shoes. "For my brown dress?"

message 260: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments She nodded and slipped off the shoes she was wearing before trying on the heels. "Great! Now I just have to find a pair for my second dress."

message 261: by Bobbie (new)

Bobbie (bobbiesquares) | 115 comments ((all this shopping and Jordan's still stuck at the hotel...))

"I should probably figure out some escape plans," Jordan murmured to himself. "How to avoid the obvious attempts at kidnapping or killing that will happen to us while we're there..." After some creative searching on the Internet, Jordan obtained a map of the castillo and started plotting.

message 262: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments ((Sorry. By 'creative searching', do you mean hacking the web?))

message 263: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments Saffy smiled slightly. "Complete opposites," she muttered, referring to Cai and herself. She pulled some sparkly black flats off the shelf and tried them on before putting it with her other shoes and bag.

message 264: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments "Oh, he totally likes you. He may not realize it yet, but he totally does. I'm surprised you two haven't gotten together yet." She said. "Honestly, it's so obvious! Of course, since though I've been telling you two that since the day you met and you still haven't listened to me, you obviously don't believe me."

message 265: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments "No, changing dresses, shoes, and the way we walk should be enough. Deception is in the details. If you go in bold and leave meek, or vice versa, or something along those lines, people won't recognize you. Besides, we're teenagers. Nobody will pay us a lick of significant attention. There's no need to complicate things. The only real reason we need to change is to err on the side of caution." She pause for a minute, looking thoughtful, then added "And picking out dresses is fun."

message 266: by Bobbie (new)

Bobbie (bobbiesquares) | 115 comments ((Oh, sorry! I didn't mean to imply that Jordan was hacking like Cai... Not exactly. He just knows how to find information on the Internet a lot better than your average person. So there's pretty much no hacking, just looking for and finding information in unexpected places.))

message 267: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments ((ah. It was perfectly ok if he was hacking; all CHERUB agents get basic hacking courses and, if they need it for a mission, advanced hacking lessons.))

message 268: by Bobbie (new)

Bobbie (bobbiesquares) | 115 comments ((Well, hey may have done a bit... but he's not amazing. ;) ))

message 269: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments "Not too much, please. And natural colors only!"

message 270: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments "Yeah. And you're wearing red and green, right? If I wear natural colors, it doesn't matter what colors I'm wearing. It will look like skin."

message 271: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments ((yeah, Saffy is like the anti-Cai. Professional, modest, rather old-fashioned, while Cai is laid-back, less than modest, and quite modern.))

"It isn't boring, I just like my face. And the less makeup there is, the more I feel like I have my own face. Besides, the point isn't to draw attention to ourselves. We are supposed to blend in. We are supposed to look nice, not memorable. You are going to do whatever the heck you want no matter what I say, but can I at least keep my face?" her voice started off normal, but quieted to a whisper as she talked about blending in. Then it rose back to normal in the last sentance, so that the outside listener wouldn't be suspicious of their conversation.

message 272: by Bobbie (last edited May 03, 2012 08:16AM) (new)

Bobbie (bobbiesquares) | 115 comments ((Lol. I'm reading about all this dress shopping and thinking about my prom dress and heels and jewelry...

Jordan is still planning while the girls are gone))

message 273: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments "I won't be wearing no makeup!" she protested. "Who ever said I was wearing no makeup? I just won't be wearing highly obvious makeup! I'll be wearing subtle makeup. People do do that, you know."

message 274: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments "Blush and lipstick yes, no to the eyeshadow. A, I don't want blue eyeshadow, and B, it wouldn't go with the pink dress. You can wear whatever makeup you want, though, I'm not even going to bother trying to talk you out of it."

((I'm thinking like the colors I wear, just not stage makeup.))

message 275: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments "Fine!" she said finally, giving up. She was rather tired of arguing.

message 276: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments "Sounds good. We wouldn't want to starve." her voice still held a somewhat defeated tone. She was somewhat dreading what Cai would do to her face.

message 277: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments "Yeah, sure, I'm nit all that picky about food. And food in Spain is quite good."

message 278: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments "Hopefully the apartment will still be standing when we return."

message 279: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments She took the bag carefully so that she wouldn't drop it. "Seriously, though, I hope he was doing something productive."

message 280: by Bobbie (new)

Bobbie (bobbiesquares) | 115 comments ((My dress is turquoise with a sparkly single-shoulder strap, and really long. It looks surprisingly good on me.))

"I wonder where the girls are," Jordan wondered aloud as he lay on his back on the bed, his laptop running beside him and papers scattered around him. His stomach rumbled and he winced. "And if they have food."

message 281: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments "Hey Jordan. We brought food! Got any info for us, or have you been wasting time?"

message 282: by Bobbie (new)

Bobbie (bobbiesquares) | 115 comments "I can tell you that the girls here are as hot as the food," Jordan said, as he sprang up from the bed. He grabbed a bag out of Saffy's hands, dodging the (expected) swipe from Cai, and flopped down on the bed again. "Ooh, paella," he said appreciatively.

message 283: by Bobbie (new)

Bobbie (bobbiesquares) | 115 comments "I just told you," Jordan said as he carefully lifted out his container of paella, "I learned valuable info on the girls of this region." He eyed the girls' shopping bags apprehensively. "Looks like you guys got some stuff done..."

message 284: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments "Yeah, the aesthetic appeal of the girls here is not important information, Jordan." She picked up her own meal and started eating it, too. "But I think Cai is going to kill me with makeup. Guys get it easy, they only have to wear suits."

message 285: by Bobbie (new)

Bobbie (bobbiesquares) | 115 comments "Assassinate someone how?" Jordan asked in between bites. "And I'm sorry, but suits are not easy to deal with. They're so tight and restricting, they practically force you to behave like a proper gentleman just by wearing them." He swallowed some rice and then pulled his laptop towards him. "On the plus side, I now know more about this castillo than anyone else going to the ball. Except for whoever's going to try to kill us." He found the map he had made and showed it to the girls.

message 286: by Bobbie (new)

Bobbie (bobbiesquares) | 115 comments "Don't forget the classic poison ring," Jordan added. "If you need a weapon, then practically anything can be turned into a poison injector, or a blowdart tube. Lipstick. Mascara. You don't even need to add anything to the shoes to make them deadly. Did you know stilettos can punch holes in a floor, but not elephants?" He gave the map to Cai and leaned back again.

message 287: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments "Blow-darts are so boring. I like Cai's ideas better. Much more creative." She paused for a minute, then added. "You know what would be cool? Having a pet elephant."

message 288: by Bobbie (new)

Bobbie (bobbiesquares) | 115 comments "Yeah," Jordan said, a dreamy look passing over his face. He was imagining riding an elephant into a secure complex, knocking over razor wire and sending guards scrambling. Of course, the elephant had impervious skin. It wouldn't do to have his ride torn up by wire and bullets.

message 289: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments "I have hobbies!" Saffy protested.

message 290: by Bobbie (new)

Bobbie (bobbiesquares) | 115 comments "Studying," Jordan suggested. "And acing tests." He leaned over and plucked the map from Cai's hands and then waved it in front of the girls. "Hey...? I did actually get stuff done, that you might want to know about."

message 291: by Bobbie (new)

Bobbie (bobbiesquares) | 115 comments "Okay," Jordan said. He placed the map flat on the bed and pointed to it as he spoke. "It was actually pretty hard to find a map of this place; I had to construct most of it myself, and it's not entirely to scale. But from what I can find out, the ball is going to be held here-" he pointed to a large entrance hall, "-with some other open rooms here and here." He pointed to a small number of rooms near the main hall. "Of course, that leaves a lot of the rest of castle. No one's been taking very good care of the castle, which means any place that's 'roped off,' so to say, is basically a death trap. And you know we're going to end up there somehow."

message 292: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments "What we need to do is get to the offices." Saffy said, "And logic would say that those aren't near the death trap bits. At least we have a ready-made excuse if we get caught where we aren't supposed to be."

message 293: by Bobbie (new)

Bobbie (bobbiesquares) | 115 comments ((bleh what?? I don't remember anything about offices...))

message 294: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments ((Umm, they were going to get some info off of computers? Computers with important info = offices. Right?))

message 295: by Bobbie (new)

Bobbie (bobbiesquares) | 115 comments ((I guess. But I still think it would be fun to have them running through a ruined part of the castle.

Also, I wonder if these "offices" are hidden, so they're actually somewhere in the "death trap bits".))

message 296: by Bobbie (new)

Bobbie (bobbiesquares) | 115 comments ((Haha, 2 against one. Hidden offices wins :D ))

"I'm flattered to hear that," Jordan remarked. "Because I think that whatever we're trying to find will be in the death trap bits, where it's less likely normal people would find. You know, like... hidden offices or something."

message 297: by Bobbie (new)

Bobbie (bobbiesquares) | 115 comments ((Heheh. "Barmy."))

message 298: by Bobbie (new)

Bobbie (bobbiesquares) | 115 comments ((Flame-o, hotman. It sure is a firey day today!))

message 299: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing | 270 comments "True... let's hope the entrances to the death-trap-bits aren't very well marked, then, because 'we were looking for a bathroom and got lost' doesn't work quite as well in well-marked areas as it does unmarked ones."

message 300: by Bobbie (new)

Bobbie (bobbiesquares) | 115 comments "Yeah," Jordan agreed. He had never had much success with coming up with good excuses for being somewhere he shouldn't. "Anyway, I made copies for each of us, but it would probably be better if we memorized the map instead of carrying it with us." He looked across the room at the bulging bags the girls had brought with them. "Now, do I get to see what y'all got done, or...?"
